I've had the utmost respect for the Mazda 3, so my hopes were high for this upgrade. My sense, based on this fine review, is that Mazda has done better than I expected. The biggest surprise for me is the styling of the sedan. It is flat-out gorgeous and "classic" in looks. Well done, Mazda . . . and Thomas.

I just love that the car is devoid of clutter with the exterior/interior unlike so many others that have so much unnecessary dressing that also adds unwanted costs' to customers'. Another one of Mazda's best ever design, especially the striking hatchback. C-Pillar really gives the car it's signature stance. Fine review as always Thomas.

Even though mazda is not considered a premium brand, They think and make their cars like a premium brand
@tmh445 жыл бұрын
Yes my understanding is that they benchmark their cars against cars in the premium segment (ie the Mazda 3 is built to compete more with a BMW 3-Series than a Honda Civic), so they typically land closer to the premium brands...they are also usually a little more expensive than the Corolla, Civic, etc, but as a multiple Mazda owner I believe the price is justified.
@DDDD-fn5dp5 жыл бұрын
Mazda used to have their own premium sub-brands, like Efini and Eunos through 1980s and 1990s
@LexVVTiS3005 жыл бұрын
Have you driven a premium car? Or have you driven a 2-3yr old Mazda? They are not premium! Sure they look that way on the internet and brand new but once you own for a year or two you realize all the style comes at a remarkable cost. The build quality and material quality in Mazdas are poor! The screen quality/ back up camera are some of the worst in the industry. The "leather" seats and padding on dash that they give you at such a LOW cost buckles, power seat motors become noisy and crackly, the list goes on. And don't expect any dealer to give you too dollar on a trade as the resale value is laughable! You can find top trim preowned Mazdas for same price as similar condition base model Toyotas, even VWs (I guess that's the only thing that makes them a premium car)
@peterambrose21485 жыл бұрын
@@LexVVTiS300 i own a 2018 Cx5. I agree with the camera and seat adjustment noise but the build quality is quite good. And so far had no problem with leather seats

@@LexVVTiS300 gotta disagree with all of this. Personally I've owned many premium vehicles including Porsche, Lotus, BMW, Acura, etc. I also recently leased a 2015 Mazda 3 as a daily driver and it held up exceptionally well, zero squeaks or rattles, zero issues, and only cost $150 to maintain for three years. Before leasing the 3 I drove the 3 Series, A4, C Class, XE, etc and went with the Mazda as the ergonomics we're excellent and it handled nicely. The rest was icing on the cake.

Thanks for the review. I recently bought the US version of the hatch (manual) with 186 horsepower and torque SkyActiveG. Coming from German turbo cars, there have been some adjustments for me to make. At first I was disappointed about the engine performance but after "learning" its Naturally Aspirated engine (and installing a performance Air Intake), I'm having a blast in revving up the engine and getting enough power in all situations. That's the fun factor that most C-Class, 3-Series and A3 cars are missing these days. Also, they say it's better to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow! Regarding the ride quality, it is good, but it definitely feels less solid and refined than my previous German cars. For example, I can sometimes feel a bit of vibration under the pedals, shifter, etc. Also stock dampers are a bit too stiff around the city potholes and I'm considering replacing them. On the positive side, Mazda parts are half the price of the German ones!

I just tested this very nice car. My opinion - C pillar shape is not a problem for visibility, especially for those who drove a lot Focus II hatch ) In fact, the space behind the C-pillar can be perfectly controlled via the side mirror. The blind spot not visible in the mirror is exactly space opposite to the rear passenger window (as with any other car). Sure, blind spot assist is nice here and useful. Sure, the shape of the C-pillar requires some experience, but the blind spots of this hatch can be controlled the same as with any other hatch.

The sedan is more stylish, I just wish the sedan came with the black headliner :( Maybe we get a performance model in the future to compete with the Hyundai i30N.

Dear Thomas! Thank You for the most complete review of the new Mazda3 on the whole KZbin! I could say this was the ultimate review of this model. (only one remark: You haven't made any comment about the line keep assist system, while I think that would be a very important feature of nowaday's cars. Nor Mazda3, nor the new Corolla review have any comments about the basic "autopilot" systems). Please next time say few words about how a car deals with autonomous features.... Thanks, regards!

No wonder Toyota sells 50 million cars a year and Mazda sells 1 million. Gotta make money in business

Honda is built by engineering too... "Super-handling" torque vectoring AWD in Legend (Acura RL), Acura TL/TLX and Acura RDX/MDX with the classic 3.7L V6. Electric motor torque vectoring in NSX with nine-speed dual clutch. Eight-speed dual clutch with torque converter for extra smoothness in Acura ILX. Honda Accord 2.0T with manual transmission available. Civic Type R has very sophisticated suspension. Honda Ridgeline -- a pick-up truck with car-like driving dynamics. Lots of good stuff if you look in the right places (I must admit the CVT that comes with the 1.5T is unfortunate, though it does perform quite well)...
