Great review and I test drove an M35i, it was fantastic apart from the rock-hard suspension. I wanted to order one but here in the UK it comes with 20” wheels only, and therefore no adaptive damper option! I could not live with the car on 20” rims and M Sport suspension, but love the style and sporty drive of the X2 so much I have ordered a lower power 2.0i Xdrive (19”wheels) with adaptive dampers. I’m still annoyed with BMW UK for their decision, though!

Yes, this is the thing that's pissing me off with X2, not just the M35i but also lower spec 20i ones, they come with the 20 inch rims on runflat tyres of which there are only 3 branded tyres and one budget available - ridiculous! Hate all the Pro-pack across the BMW ranges with hard big wheels, I think most are dealer spec along with the cheap high-gloss black interior trim! Argh!!

There are engine sounds that give me goosebumps. Any 6 cylinder from BMW would send me to paradise. I don't like 4 cylinder sounds, especially amplified in the cabin through speakers...

Excellent and thorough review! Thank you! Can you tell me how the adaptive suspension actually works for the X2? I can’t find a great explanation (I’ve heard different BMWs have different versions). Does the adaptive version feel as stiff as the standard M suspension in sport? Does the comfort setting feel softer than the regular "Comfort" setting without the adaptive suspension? Are they both softer depending on the situation? Maybe you wouldn’t mind describing it more? Thank you again!

That's interesting, I can clearly see adaptive cruise on your steering wheel. I thought since we can't get it in Australia that it's a limitation of the model, but it's obviously available and they just want to cut corners here. Insane for a 75 thousand dollar car.

Hi Thomas and all the staff, thanks for the review, i have the BMW Gran tourer 220XD with M Package, the interior looks like this M2 interior, i'm not happy with the quality, a lot of noise, plastics near the gearbox are very sensibles with scratch, the M-Sport steering wheel made with poor quality plastic make some incredible noise for this level of price, BMW in this level of range is very expensive for the quality.

Hello, I have a selection in one bazaar X2 M35i 2022 with adaptive suspension, I heard that with sports suspension is too hard for longer rides, I was discouraged by many from the m35i due to the harshness of the chassis, my question is if this model with adaptive chassis (0223 Adaptives Fahrwerk) is acceptable for normal driving for comfort? I don’t get what BMW are trying to do here, and what demographic they are targeting. I can see that this would complete with Audi Q2 but I just think these types of cars have no overall difference comparing to a saloon, estate or a traditional SUV. In the UK, almost 4/5 people who buy SUVs or compact SUVs do not take them off road and are such just jacked up cars. So what is the point? When you can get the same practicality and performance with transitional cars.

@Artur Corka If you don't understand it, you're not the target demographic. They are targetting the demographic that is abandoning cars for crossovers. They have plenty of data that this is a viable offering. It may not be for you. It may not be for me. But they are building it for somebody other than you and me. Regardless of the use case you quote for crossovers in the UK, those people still bought them nonetheless now didn't they? The point is as long as there are customers, they will build them.

And now in 2023 these style of cars have become some of the most popular cars on UK roads. The Puma for example is now Fords top seller, a vast majority of people prefer to drive in a higher seating position and whether we like it or not these type of cars are the present and the future of the motor industry.

Hi Thomas, around 14:48 you talk about the instrument cluster. What's your view on the material used for those screens? I think they are way too scratchy....even if you just take a way some small dust with your finger, when the sun hits the cluster you already see scratches.....I think that's a design mistake IMHO.

Excellent review! I like this X2, I think it will do very well. Love that blue! My only comment is about that M batch. BMW is quick to stick a M batch on their cars. I cannot help thinking M batched BMW’s must have at least their legendary 6-line motor. Perhaps they should have invented a new batch, like wbM...(wanna be M).

Looks very nice in M-Performance guise combined with the Thomas Blue colour, I have to admit! But other than that, I have a serious question: what is so special about a 4-cylinder, so as to even call it the 'strongest 4-cylinder BMW have ever made'? Nowadays we are awash in 4-cylinder engines and they all sound the same (which is to say 'colourless')! There is absolutely nothing special about a 4-cylinder engine! It is the most common engine available anywhere!
