Hi Thomas. I have Tesla M3P and Audi e-tron Sportback 55. They both do 220 miles on a full charge. The additional Tesla range is a myth. I use mine on motorways twice per week, 242 miles return journey, they have the same range. Tesla has smaller battery- 75 kWh - to the Audi 95kwh I know. But at 72 mph/125 Kmh on the motorway runs, they’re both the same. And the Audi gives very accurate predictive range, unlike Tesla. I can safely and confidently run the Audi range down to 10 miles. I can’t in the Tesla. So I don’t think range is quite the issue it appears... Love the channel ! Thanks. Robert.

Thanks for the report Robert! What is your energy consumption in each? Caus i had massive difference in 23 kwh/100 km (37 kwh on 100 miles) for the audi and just 13 for the Model 3 (20 kwh on 100 miles)

The best I did with my e-tron 50 was 19,7 kWh/100 km on a 95 km trip on Landstrassen in Holland.

​@@autogefuehl Hi Thomas, sorry for delay, I didn't see your reply my children showed me yesterday !! Using Aqua-Calc converter, my consumption is: Audi (e-tron 55 base model at 2264 miles total) 2.3 miles/kwh = 27 kWh/100km. Tesla (M3 Performance at 7387 miles total) 336 wh/mile = 3.0 miles/kwh = 20.7 kWh/100km. These figures are similar to yours, and give a realistic range of Audi (2.3 x 95kwh) 218.5 miles, and Tesla (3.0 x 75kwh) 225 miles. This is exactly my experience of max range - the same !! We no longer use the Tesla ! We like both cars, but since it arrived in May the family car is the Audi now, we much prefer it for the size and space and versatility. The more we use it, the more impressive it has become. For us it was half the price of Model X on monthly leasing. Looking forward to your test of the new E-Tron S 60 soon !!!!!

Well, the backup lights aren't good on many Audi models. With the lightbar 3rd party upgrades are very difficult.

I think Hyundai/Kia rear view mirrors are the best implementation.....you still have normal mirrors left/right, but in the dashboard you get the camera for left/right in your blind spot when you signal.

Groaznic But nobody actually pays 115k€ for that car. It’s much cheaper in reality because like with any traditional car you can negotiate the price at the dealership. I got mine for 83k€ with everything equipped.

I am still very pleased. Range has held steady even after several long road trips. The new Q8 e-tron has more range but mine has been very good for my needs. Very comfortable car. “Knock on wood”, no major maintenance needed. Handles really well in winter weather with Audi-recommended winter tires. Still very impressed!

Thank you Jeff. It’s a superb vehicle and glad you’re enjoying the ownership. It’s the best looking & refined EV I think in the US market, just a shame we don’t get more options such as the EQC and iX3 as they have in Europe. In terms of range, do you get in the 200+ in good weather or 160-180 as I’ve seen some reviewers comment? Also, would you consider owning the vehicle post the manufacturer warranty? In the US there’s not many past 50,000 miles to see long term reliability but in Europe there are some with 200K miles still looking in shape.

@@cosminciuraru good points! When it is very cold, I will get about 175 miles on the e-tron Sportback on a full charge for a road trip. Normal range for me at 80% is 185 miles except when exceptionally cold. Charging speed on a DC fast charger is exceptional given the relatively flat charging performance to 80%. There are owners in the AudiWorld forum that drive more frequently than I do as most of my experience is shorter duration driving and not in heavy traffic most of the time. The Daytona Grey color has held up nicely and is easy to hand wash as the Sportback is not too tall.

Tesla Björn is doing 1000km tests for all EVs and the Model X Raven and eTron 55 took 10:20h (Model 3 LR 10:00h), means no difference. The eTron compensates it's low range with the excellent flat charging curve from 10 to 80% at 150kw....see charging curve at Fastned. As you can see only 20mins for the Model 3 on 1000km...for sure one of the reasons why the eTron is the most sold car in Norway...even more than Any ICE! And this range test was done before the range improvements were available in the eTron, which is available in the Sportback. Cannot see THE Advantage of Tesla other than bad built quality 😉😎...and a noisy car...Model 3 at 74db at 130km/h...any modern ICE Car, like a Ford Focus, is currently at 69db and the eTron at 64db. OK the charging infrastructure is still better, but not true for a country like Norway anymore. Electrifyamerica is also not that bad according to ABRP (abetterrouteplanner.com).

@@autogefuehl on a long trip this excellent charging curve is improving the situation for the eTron...but if you drive "only" 500km, which happens more often😉, the better Range of a Tesla makes it worse for the eTron again. Nevertheless, I just mention this 1000km Tests, since the eTron is in general underestimated from a lot of EV Fans just looking at the pure range value, but there is the charging time, which is no parameter for ICEs at all, but very important for any EV. For the eTron you do not need to know the charging curve for loading like for any other EV, including Tesla , but just plug in and you will get the 150kw. support.fastned.nl/hc/en-gb/articles/360000815988-Charging-with-an-Audi-e-tron

Excellent Review of a nice expensive (did I hear 130k?) car. That at present, is ok for the rich as a 2nd or 3rd car if they have access to a comfortable ICE car, and can charge at home. Personally I think I'd prefer an e-Golf (still available from stock. You could by three or four for the price of this e-tron), rather than an ID.3! At 6:33, yes Thomas, nice wheels. Monitors for cameras in lieu of door mirrors sited, err, out of sight: "are dangerous", Thomas? Yes! Ornate large distracting touchscreen(s) when driving? Not very good. The boot is ruthless my A6 broke and I had to force it open to get my dog out, took a lot to get it open. Also you should mention the power close doors don't care either, I tried to carefully shut my car door at night to avoid waking people, left my thumb in the way and it cranked the door shut on my thumb. The car door didn't wake anyone up but my screaming as it whirred shut did.

Does the dynamic mode make it faster? I thought the gear in S gave you the boost, and the dynamic only makes the suspenison tighter? Cant it be just as quick in S gear mode and comfort mode?

Really excellent review and detail as always from Thomas - well done. Nice car but simply too expensive! And if you must have an EV (in the UK), Tesla's charging system might reason enough to go for a... err, Tesla!

Hi Thomas, I’m watching this three years after you filmed it as my daughter is considering a sportback. I couldn’t agree more with you re the camera mirrors, they are a gadget we could all do without, you just cannot beat glancing at a mirror. This car has ONE major flaw: the windshield fluid dispenser does not shoot/squirt the liquid to the middle of the windshield. It shoots it at the lower 20%. So future owners take note if you're ok with that. I just bought mine less than 2 weeks ago and I wish to Hell ppl would review this instead of some "Ooo look at the nice leather!" bull crap. Of course, it's $47,000+!! The leather has better be nice!! Make the car in Germany cuz obviously the Hungarian engineers aren't up to the task.

this is useless car and basically only for those who have 3-4 normal cars in garage and sleeps on millions while for middle class you better buy some house on sea then this garbage who have range of around 150km if you drive it on autobahn with 150km/h

The Sportback looks way better then original model etron. Its just way to heavy right now and needs to drop about 800lbs before I would consider this purchase.

Thomas, one other question. Is the car autonomous...ie if you programme the destination into Navigation system, can it drive all the way by its self? Also regarding the side mirrors, I agree with you.

The Polestar 2 is built on the CMA platform, so it's only slightly bigger than the XC40. Not even remotely in the same class.

Renault Zoe offers 22kw AC charging and Audi offers 11kw AC charging as standard. I am waiting for the optional 22kw AC to be available on the website. So far nothing.

Everyone seemed to hate the S60 Cross Country (which I sort of liked) a few years ago, saying that a jacked up saloon would never work... This looks a lot like a jacked up saloon to me

Here's legacy evs problem, they can't make them affordable, perform, and at volume. Because it will cannabilize their ice cars. So you can have two of the three while Tesla has three of the three and slowly chokes them to death.

Charles Yu “chokes them to death”? The e-Tron absolutely dominates the Model X where I live... And btw Audi will release the Q4 e-Tron this year which will be a relatively cheap car based on a BEV platform, which means higher range, better efficiency and lower production costs.

Charles Yu BMW, Mercedes and Audi offered basically the same product for years and they still exist... People are even willing to drive a worse vehicle just to show that they are different. Also until Tesla fixes the quality issues they won’t sell many cars in Europe.

In Honda mirrors have a lot better view angles. At Audi they prioritized design over functionality that is why their position in not good. The idea with cam instead of mirrors is very cool but should have put the monitors in the line of your site and with wider view angles.

Tesla has ruined it for everyone, you can not stop comparing it to a Tesla. These cars are phones with batteries on wheels and Tesla like Apple, got the best software in terms of features and how often you receive updates...

About the side mirror you mentioned. It's now allowed in China to have that electric ones by the traffic administration, you still have them in classic mirrors here.

I was surprised you didn’t think the EQC was superior. You mentioned the interior quality in the EQC was better. Perhaps having the Audi’s sound deadening package helped. I personally love the Sportback styling but feel the car is too large and heavy. Perhaps the BMW i4 or Audi Q4 etron will soon be reviewed.

Not necessarily is the build quality of the buttons and switches etc. of the EQC better, rather the other way around. What I meant is that the EQC offers more sustainable high class animal-free seating and covers also in high trims. Both great cars, though not that efficient in the electric drive

I'm probably a bit biased since I currently drive the regular e-tron (great car, except the audi app hardly works, can't even use the remote climate control), but after seeing the e-tron sportback on the road today (s-line, 20", Daytona, Chrome), I'm happy I didn't wait for the sportback. I also have the black headliner wihout sunroof and don't think it's too dark inside, there's plenty of light coming in from all the (large) windows. Perhaps if your current daily driver has a panoramic roof, the difference is more noticable and may indeed look a bit dark. I just don't like to drive a fishbowl so I go for the batcave version :)

Yeah. The rear is too bulky. Other than that the design is flawless

Audi designers very lazy here. Opportunity for a cleaner design because of less air intakes needed and what do they do? Keep the look of huge intakes, but they are almost all fake! Come on, these oversized grilles need to go anyway. Audi, you once were about bold styling and strong choices, not follow-the-leader, me too, huge grille styling. This is terrible. And calling it a sport back doesn’t mean it’s not still jacked up like the pseudo-suv that it is, complete with all the drawbacks of an SUV and none of the benefits.

If I understood you correct you wanted more recuperation - because it would be more effective. I don't know for sure what you put into that. But I must point out - with my background within physics - that free rolling is the most energy effective use of your car's energy. You let it free roll down the hill or down to the speed you want. It is only when you have surplus energy and must use the brakes that recuperation make sense..... I see a lot of misunderstandings and ignorance out in the BEV sphere of enthusiasts. To me it seems more like a religious or trendy thing to have an BEV. Such cars will not save the planet. To talk about them as something environmentally friendly is just nonsense. Reality is that they are marginally less polluting than fossil cars. But if you include the statistics showing that EV's crashes doble as often as fossile cars..... well.... then the positive gain with EV has evaporated. It is by useing public transport, use bicycle or simply walk that you can claim to contribute to anything that can be called environmental friendly......

yes indeed, as far as I remember I also said that? At least I have mentioned that rolling vs recuperation very often. Its just that in most cases where you lift the throttle, you dont want to roll but rather want to decelerate

You mention a lot it is very silent but throughout your video you can hear a lot of "whining" from the EV-drive. This could be too much emphasized by the microphones as the general road noise is much louder than in reality. So how did you experiencied/noticed the whining noise of the drivetrain?

You mention that electric vehicles are always better minus some caveats but I've read reviews that ride quality is often somewhat compromised due to battery weight. I haven't experienced it for myself, but is this true?

Great review, Thomas, as always. I'm furious at Audi for not releasing a configurator for the Q4 SUV yet. They teased us with the base price and no further information on it available since.. We are seriously considering ordering it. Any word on when dealers will start accepting orders? And/or what's the hold-up?

200 or 250 miles is not good enough. Audi seems not to be even trying. If you are satisfied with a golf cart to pick up groceries, go for it, but this is not a serious car.

Hi Thomas! Great video, thanks. I don’t like the sports back cars. Prefer the original shapes. The two digital displays seem to be very techno. I think it should have been a single large display like the Tesla. Also that large gap in the centre armrest area ???? People will think your forgot an important option.
