@@autogefuehl some thoughts on this review: I totally agree about digital mirrors - it's a complete miss. Regarding suspension: I've driven 2020 E-tron 55 for three years now with 21" wheels. Perfect suspension, I like to drive in comfort mostly, because our roads are really bad. Now, I've ordered the new Q8 Etron 55 but s-line. So it will have sportier suspension. Have you had the chance to compare the two in comfort mode? How much can I expect to lose in comfortness, of course on same 21" wheel size? Next, I've seen Thomas switching from D to S driving and it seemed like quicker response in "S". However, in "old" etron the S mode was also the one enabling a "boost" mode for 8 seconds (cca 60 hp more power). Is this still the case in new Q8 etron? Because in Q4 that operates differently and kickdown really has no true effect. I hope they didn't implement Q4 boots in new Q8 etron...thanks for the answers.

Digital Side Mirrors make no sense - Blindspot monitor is enough. Digital side Mirrors have to be an option - Always.

Hi Thomas.. great review. Since you own a Q8 what are your thoughts now? If you have to get one now, would you still get the Q8 or go for the Q8 e tron? Or would you rather consider the BMW IX? Personally i feel that the electrics (e tron and IX) are still very heavy and could not be as fun to drive as the normal combustion engine versions especially on twisty roads like the ones we have alot in the UK. What are you thoughts?

Q8 petrol will be more agile in tight corners yes. Still Q8 etron handles very well. iX will have significant higher range

I think this type of camera mirrors are better overall but inside you need higher position like in the honda e or in a modern Dac truck's 😉 The advantages of camera's instead of classics are : better visibility at night,on the rain and can be cleaned much easier with washer i guess 🤔 keep up with good work 🍻

Regarding the virtual mirrors: driving them now since 2 years in an etron55. Yes, you need some time to get used to it, but then you start to love it. At sunset/sunrise/bad weather conditions the view to the back is massively better/clearer compared to any „normal mirror“. For driving backwards you use the 360° Cameras to compensate the negative of giving no real 3d like standard mirrors. Would I order them again? Yes.. but honestly that‘s not compensating the worse software and app-connection Audi is supplying since years now. And there is NO improvements within the facelift. „Vorsprung durch Technik“.. that’s really not given anymore.

I live in Norway, with all kinds of weather. I love these cameras, which never get dirty, and where I can see extra well in the dark, and in bad weather. It took me a week to get used to these mirrors and now I don't want anything else. Have also have a BMW with normal mirrors, and I clearly notice that you don't have the same overview with these normal mirrors.

Thomas, do you have the real world range for the smaller battery? The Q8 etron 50. Also, thanks for the awesome review. I’ve been waiting for the facelift but I’d be going for the 50 model. I think I like it over the competitors as the IX or similar just because it looks more like a traditional car, and it is not ugly. But the range is still a bit concerning.

thanks !! We dont have that tested yet, but we cant expect similar energy consumption, maybe a little less. I ll try to get that for a test. Range should be then kinda similar or a little less, but the range difference has shrunk since especially the smaller version has increased even more in battery size.

Everything goes eco. Real learher being replaced by fake leather, real fur by fake fur, real wood by fake wood. Behind this list of fake...something is nothing else than: plastic. Soon we'll eat plastic because it's eco. In fact, either we want or not we are eathing microplastic each day (the equivalent of a bank card per month) because almost all our food is packed in plastic.

However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzNdHSjppaSbqc Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex or Desertex or Miriam). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) %. So it is the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette, even in ventilated options. Hey Paul, this is very common with Audi indeed. The only explanation is that the guys at Audi USA who decide that are completely from the past. The US market is highly used to leatherette and US customers have a high acceptance for it, especially when it is high grade (which Audi does have in stock of course, or the microfibre). So at the end of the day, it is the ignorant personal decision of Audi representatives in the US.

Great car - love it and I am using two 55 e-trons in the familiy. Specially suspension, sound isolation, interior quality, multifunctional car, bigger trunk - comparing to ix. Regarding range - 400km - maybe in Lazarote 20 Celcius, with driving speed limit 100km/h, not in traffic jams; I think real energy consumption is closer to 30kwh/100km. In winter it is (because of heating) 15% more. Highway till 130 km/h- more or less 27-30kwh/100km. Drawbacks - dark rear camera view at night, side bumpers parts attached on stickers, memory buttons for seats are too low (cause of digital mirrors, but it is the same with standard mirrors), as you mentioned - apple music not fully integrated with virtual cockpit andhead up display, B&O sound system is too bright with too much echo with 3d - wish to have better one - specially in such silence interior - like B&O advanced in a8/q8. And...I still cannot imagine how Audi did not manage to combine heated steering wheel with lane keeping assistant and acc in 2019-2020 built models...thanks for next great movie, best regards!

The new version is a bit more efficient and has a bigger battery. That's why you have more range too.

@@mattleistner313 ok, but lets check offical data: before lift Etron 55 - 441km / 86,5 - 5,1km for 1 kw after lift - 581/106,5 - 5,4km for 1 kw 5,8% more efficiency. Not a gamechanger. This digital mirrors should be illigal in EU aswell:)

55: with an average consumption of 30kWh / 100 Km you get around 66 Km more real world range. As most 55 drivers I know are in the range between 24 und 28kWh average they will get respectively more

If you don't sit in the trunk (3rd row) you don't need the more boxy rear and can benefit from the Sportback's 0.24 cd.

I agree totally with your opinion of camera mirrors The brain has accepted and acted upon the 'i saw it through the corner of my eye' this new camera image will take a considerable amount of time to 'retrain' being at a 'out of visible awareness angle' that the drivers brain/eyesight as been programmed to

Great Video review as always Thomas , I would always turn to you for a car review. These Camera Mirrors are a personal choice as you say Sir , For me personally i got along very well with them and i had no issues , In fact i love them more than normal glass mirrors .. i got used to just glancing my eye to the monitors , My brain adapted to it quite normally .. ! 💯💯🙏🙏 Reply

Will the ICE Q8 continue to exist or is the E-tron meant to replace it? If they exist side-by-side that makes things even more complicated. The other E-tron models such as Q4 and GT don't have ICE versions, but the Q8 does?

Great review as always. Been sort of eyeing the new EQE but have always prefered Audis :) I do have one remark on the colour choices, though - personally, I like to wear blue shirts, but don’t believe such a colour looks good on a vehicle. I think it does not accentuate the beautiful shape of this vehicle in particular, makes it somewhat cheaper-looking. The grey option with black package would definitely suit the SQ8 better. Was the colour your choice, or the entire fleet looked like this? I might be the only one of this opinion, but… maybe pick another colour next time? :) I mean, the regular Q8 e.tron looked so much better in grey.

I have the original e tron 55 with the 90kw battery and it varies wildly. Best I've had was around 440km real world range and worst around 350-380. Towing a motorcycle on a trailer barely 300. It is a very heavy car. Best thing about it is the suspension and how quiet it is. Consumption is anywherr from 19kwh/100km to 26-27 in the winter or towing, long term i have under 23kwh/100km.

Since the digital rearview “mirrors” are cameras, can't they have put them somewhere else, like a wide-angle at the back or on the B pillar? Am I the only person who thinks those two things sticking out are hideous?

nice looking car but to me there are two problem: first, the rear side mirror, agree that the screen are placed too low. Second, too many screen, you need just two screen, one in front of you beyond the steering wheel and one in the center console,maybe little bit bigger than that one and most important, the climate control must be with buttons and nob.

Had Audi kept their 3D rings up front, that new ambient glow could’ve back illuminated the logo. As the flat design is now, you only get the tops of the rings shown so at night the logo isn’t distinguishable. Missed opportunity IMO.

Let's be honest we are surounded by all sort of digital gimmicks but we are analog creatures, this is why big YES for real side mirrors, real steeering wheel (F1 it's different story, not everyone is a F1 driver) and the main knobs to be physical. Also, this drag style of an EV is fun I don't deny, but not everyone is able to handle a very fast car, and that car could quickly turn into a deadly weapon if it's way too fast. Btw do you remember Paul Walker? Moderation is key for a lot of drivers, or should be key but it is not, unfortunately. Physics is ready to show us the limits all the time, this is why pushing the limits has a cost and I don't necesarely mean money, but consequences.

Great review again, thanks! This is a vehicle that has both what I like and dislikes.... Dashboard mirrors monitors, storage etc... those are not very functional to me but I like the external design... Btw, is that your model gf? She has been away for centuries....

the infotainment is the same as in my Q4 :) but "only" almost 410 km with 100% ???😮. In winter it would be reduced to below 300 WLP and real life prob around 200 ...wow its a heavy and thirsty car. My Q4 goes from almost 480 km in summer (100%) to 340 in winter (100%) with avarage 17 kwh/100 to 25++ kwh/100 in winter so u lose a lot in cold weather (-10 and below)

As a chauffeur, I'd definitely choose the normal SUV version, for the increased space. But I'd much prefer a diesel, and I do currently have a diesel Q7. 😛🕺

An extremely handsome beast this SUV. I agree. Side mirrors are a gimmick. The 3rd screen for the climate control is too low and with everything being touch sensitive, I can already expect many, expensive accidents in the pipeline. Otherwise, an ideal family vehicle with an eye watering price tag 🙈

I like the look and the size of this. It's a propper SUV. But i want the gimmicks of Tesla y and the space. The opportunity to camp. And a perfect app. Tesla suspension sucks so much i hate it. quality feels cheap and no buttons. That's what turns me of. Or else it's the polestar 3.

Thomas, you know that all EV, mass adoption, is not “sustainable”. What’s the realistic life cycle of that battery and the cost to replace? What about lithium and cobalt mining inhumane conditions and destruction of the land. Then there’s the power grid limitations and escalating costs of electricity production, especially as demand increases exponentially. Windmills and solar panels cannot sustain the necessary demand of mass adoption. We should focus on non-fossil clean fuels for personal ICE vehicles. Progressive naïveté.
