First thing I thought of the headlights as soon as you said it was hidden behind the daytime lights was exactly the same, it's another tech feature which has a risk of breaking and going wrong. Personally the single strip thor design on the current generation looks better as well than the joined up squares or rectangles, but styling opinion is subjective.

Time to stop calling it an infotainment system. It's the car's control panel. And it sucks that a $100,000 vehicle has most everything controlled through that control panel. Distracted driving that Volvo should have never accepted as normal. They of all companies should know better.
@jameskole35842 ай бұрын
Oddly enough, Volvo were one of the first manufacturers outside of Tesla to introduce touchscreen infotainment. The current generation cars which came out in the mid to late 2010's all have touchscreen infotainments. Tesla started, Volvo were one of the next ones, others then started to follow, either on the next generation or on the mid life facelifts. Might have been someone else after Tesla (or maybe even before), but Volvo were one of the early ones to move to touchscreen only infotainment.

Once again the cost cutting measures are awful and so un-volvo like. This trend is totally unacceptable and should not be normalised. No rear windows switch controls on a nearly 100k car? No shades for the glass roof? Even a Renault Scenic E comes with an electrochromic roof! And i do have a question, what are the regulations regarding the hazard lights button now? I thought in the past that had to be a physical button at least, but now like here, they slapped it on a little corner of the center screen. What if the screen fails? This looks really dated in this quite modern interior. I could live with that in a Polestar 2, but in this very new car - not really. And I noticed in some shots that very strong glare from the display when the sun was low and was coming from back. Would be interesting to hear about that - if it was just that the camera caught it so visible or was it also having some impact on driver?

The interiör is meant to be a relaxing place, and the big display paradigm lives and dies by the software. Tesla pulled it off but they are a SW company first. Volvo brought a lot of the SW development in house and started a joint company with google to build this SW, let’s see a longer tem review and what bugs pop up and how quickly they fix them.😅

Thank you for really doing the detail, which I did not get on other reviews. At €100k for this sort of car I would want to tow (tick) but would also want some reasonable off road capability - say enough get me and a horse box out of a muddy English field (unsure). Normally I would look to Range Rover for that sort of thing, but so far as I know they do not do the full electric. Apart from that Volvo have got so much of this right, but I could never live with the everything on the iPad on the dashboard. The decision to base the software on Google is clearly a good one which I wish more manufacturers had done.

When discussing the LIDAR sensor, I have the feeling that the reasoning from Thomas does not reflect why Tesla has chosen to only use vision. And, it is not the personal opinion of Elon alone but backed by investigations of the FSD team. Andrej Karpathy, the long time leader of the FSD team (at the time this decision was made) has clearly stated in several interviews that the decision to add sensors is driven by the fact how much extra real input you can get while sometimes extremely adding to the complexity of merging different sources of information. Anyone who has tried to reconcile a radar screen on a yacht with the view through the front window knows what this means. More sensors does not automatically mean better results, it usualy means more confusion.

The reason Tesla will only use cameras instead of sensors and radar was to cut costs. And it was a stupid thing to do since the Tesla cars that only have cameras have major safety flaws.

Only XC90! :) Now, after facelift, XC90 can be compared side by side.

This car is probably 7-10! years to early ,real world battery range and charging infrastructure needs to be a lot better. Volvo should have brought out this as a hybrid with strong battery range

LIDAR no longer costs 1000s of dollars. Unlike lithium batteries, LIDAR gets cheaper when you build a lot more of them and competitors drive the price down. But semi=autonomous driving is a horrible idea, because it encourages distracted driving and reduced driver situational awareness, while not actually being level 5. It's more dangerous than manual, human driving.

Lidar and more sensors aren't necessarily safer. Tesla has the best active safety of all cars tested by NCAP and others. Most times it's better to judge by data and not listen to marketing. Ps. Love the channel😊

Indeed the camera system performance is very good for pedestrian safety and avoiding crashes with other vehicles in these tests. However in adverse situations like rain, fog etc. ultrasonic sensors and LIDAR by nature perform better to show an exact picture of the surroundings. Also the Tesla autopilot creates a lot of false-positives while driving as for my experience with the ACC (sudden braking although there is nothing)

@@autogefuehl Tesla's cameras are actually good in fog and darkness. Better than humans.They don't see the colour green and are also much better at detecting nuances so have an advantage over us. Yes major downsides to the old autopilot software we have here in Europe is phantom braking. But Teslas manage to stop for all objects in ncap tests when all other modern cars like Volvos, Mercedes etc runs over children, cyclists and into other cars. Major reason for only relying on cameras is to avoid sensor fusion which is an insanely hard problem to solve. Tesla is far ahead of all other car makers on active safety and Tesla have several of the worlds most powerful AI clusters at their disposal but despite that they're hesitant to develop sensor fusion. Tesla might try to incorporate a hd radar in the future but nothing beyond that. And if Tesla can't get it to work with 1000x training compute compared other car makers than there's no hope for others to succeed with sensor fusion. This is evident in the active safety tests. What type of sensors the car has is 0,001% of the problem. Creating software to realiably use those sensors is 99,999% of the solution.
That tiny screen attached the steering wheel bracket utterly disgraceful

Even if the XPeng G9 only has five seats, is the EX90 so much better to justify the price difference?
@autogefuehl2 ай бұрын
For me the G9 misses animal free seeting like G6 offers. Software is rapidly improving with Xpeng so its more about repair times etc which could cause a problem. In general Xpeng are very competitive already

Really a shame. I was looking forward to a large interior space for passenger comfort and luggage. For such a vast and heavy vehicle, this is really not packaged alll that well.
