I've found over the years that it always pays to have prepped to have things that I can eat on hand. In a moment of weakness or hunger I will defer to whatever is on hand even if its bad for me. But, I will never choose a bad option if I have something healthy prepared in advance. This video is brilliant.

A few years ago my rheumatologist put me on AIP when all other treatments failed to help with my autoimmune disease. I did AIP for 6 months, lost 40lbs and felt amazing, even my migraines went away. Well, I tried introducing foods, then got too comfortable with eating other foods and fell off the AIP protocol. gained the weight back and more and felt horrible again. Last Nov 2019 I did keto until the end of May 2020, while it was great for weight loss after 4 months my belly began bothering me and my joints were worse than ever. Mid August 2020 I began AiP again, although I am working to wean coffee out still. 1st week was a transition week of kind of keto and kind of AIP, (that was rough on the body) last week was just AIP (except I have not stopped the coffee yet and should). I have lost a lot of bloat and belly heaviness already. Your videos are so wonderful, I can't thank you enough for sharing your tips, tricks and recipes!

Thank you for sharing these tips! I have had awfyl hydradenitis flares and I hope AIP can help calm it down. I'm already nightshade, gluten and diary free but I feel like there might still be stuff bothering me. Hopefully I can find out. I am looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Been AIP for 11 days.. lost a bunch of weight..Even started doing yoga..And I feel soo much better already..Cant wait to be at 90 days..I dont need meds yet..levels ar normal..So im hoping i caught it early and never have to take them..Your vids are inspirational..Thank you for doing them.. P.s. I am anemic and vit d deficient which I think is why my hair was falling out..And a mixture of my nightly hair oils and diet..Its getting so much better.. 😁😊

I'm so glad you're feeling that much better already! Have you ever gotten tested for Celiac disease? (Just because anemia and vit d deficiency often point to that - plus those with Hashi's often have gluten-intolerance issues). I mean, what you are doing will help with that in any case and I bet you are going to feel freakin fantastic soon - probably a good idea not to eat gluten again anyway to stay that way. But if you don't have to take meds, all the better. I'm excited for you!

What do you mean by hair oils? Topically applied? If so, they likely aren't actually helping you and are just placebo effect

The best two weeks I've ever had, as far as feeling well, were when I was on AIP. It was sooooo hard so I quit. I will go back to it when I'm at a point in my life where I can better prepare for that lifestyle.

It definitely isn't easy- but when you do decide to go back you should check out some of the ways I'm trying to make it easier - with things like "dump" freezer meals, etc (Here are two videos showing what I mean - AIP Cherry Balsamic Pot Roast: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opqrqIuwe6dros0 and AIP Thai Chicken Soup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoiYc3-nrtCBe7s ) Both of these you just dump raw ingredients in a bag, freeze, and then thaw and throw into a slow cooker, Instant Pot, or on the stove. You can prep like 7 meals in an hour using this method, making dinners (and lunches if you eat leftovers) so much easier!

I have Practical Paleo and I also have Sarah Ballantyne’s books, including the Healing Kitchen I think I saw on one of your cookbook vids. I am hoping armed with those, I won’t get bored...on Whole30, I lived for eggs and nuts were my at work snack.

Nightshades are also potatoes. GAWD I’m missing French fries ... and nothing tastes like a big honkin baked potato. I’ve tried roots and white sweet potatoes but nuthin tastes like a freaking potato, but I have definitely made a perfect tomatoe sauce substitute. (NOmato sauce) the tamarind powder is a must. My hubby can’t tell the difference.

ah yes, the potato. I always seem to forget that in my list of nightshades, oops :-) It's definitely hard and I agree, nothing tastes quite like one. I hope for your sake that you can reintroduce them successfully!

Potatoes have never hurt my stomach but I don’t want to eat them because nightshades are all forbidden on AIP. But I’m new to it somewhat and I wasn’t sure they could ever be eaten again, lol. Tomatoes kill me, flare up my rheumatoid arthritis, but so does beef so I can’t eat that either. Makes me hurt like crazy! And I ate only grass fed but it didn’t matter. Bell peppers kill me too. Ugh. Lol I love them on my gluten free pizza which then has grain AND tomato sauce. This is so stinkin hard, lol. But giving up gluten got me out of a wheel chair with my muscle disease so I never ever go there 😮

@@VagabondMango wow, that's amazing that giving up gluten did that! Have faith with all the other things though, it may take a long time, but you may be able to reintroduce some of those things back in once you've healed more.

Michele Spring yea, I’ve had some sort of weird set-back in the past week where my stomach burns and hurts with everything I eat, even swallowing my own spit. It’s in my upper stomach and it might be the sphincter muscle acting up because of my muscle disease, it sometimes spasms. It this is slightly different with a non stop burning, almost like an ulcer. I’ve had TONS of stress in the past 6 months with family and now raising my grand baby full time... drinking aloe vera with pulp helps so I’m hoping it will pass. Hope it’s not pancreatitis which I’ve had before or gall bladder related. Ugh, I’ll never see potatoes again, lol

@@VagabondMango ugh, setbacks are hard. Have you ever been tested for LOW stomach acid? It may very well be a result of your muscle disease, but often when people have low stomach acid you have symptoms similar to this. It's very common, and very common to show up a few weeks into a diet like this. I know very well that feeling when swallowing your own spit, and it for me was low stomach acid. Erik eliminated night shade veggies (along with many other food) when he was Little ... Happy he grew-up as a Healthier adult. Correct diet is so important!

Michele, Erik never was big on sweets. Now, Carrie's 1st word was "Cookie" When she was a very little (toddler) I'd give her the Binkie to help her stop crying. (she cried All the Time).... but, she then decided to spit it out... I'd dip it into Honey. That seemed to work quite well. But, I think that's why she is more of a sweet eater (dark chocolate) . Seriously, "COOKIE" was her ~1st word~ They use to say, you crave what you're allergic to... I always found that to make sense. Do they ever say that anymore?

You could probably do fresh cranberries but I'd add a bit more sweetener since they are so tart. I haven't tried a lot of these, but blueberries, raspberries, or mangoes, or even maybe apples too could be good...

haha, usually people say "coffee and eggs" but alas, those are also tough to give up. Remember, it's temporary, and if you do wind up finding that you're sensitive to them you might not like them as much (depending on what you have - people with arthritis tend to have more issues with nightshades than anyone and they can feel a lot of pain when they eat them and decide it's not worth it)
