My husband and I test drove the RAV4, CRV and the Rogue. Rogue was the clear winner for us and I’m a Honda girl so we were surprised. The RAV4 was comfortable but just too small. We felt like we were on top of each other and the doors were too close. We aren’t big people. We are tall and so are our kids. The kiddos legs had NO ROOM in the back. Hard pass. Loved driving the CRV, plenty of room but the seats felt like concrete so another hard pass. We couldn’t be happier with the Rogue. The driving experience is definitely more luxurious than the others. Reliability? Only time will tell… hoping for the best. I know they have a bad rap but then I also know many people with Nissans and not a single one has had an issue.

I used both Rogue and RAV4 and I liked both for different reasons. 2023 Rogue is definitely a good car with reasonably good power and it gives good mpgs as well. Nissan drastically improved their CVTs and mostly there won't be any issues with regular maintenance. Change the transmission oil for every 25-30k miles.

@@Gopinathk17, currently having issues with a gas smell while idle and in the garage. Had a hose changed which has been a great fix for most but not me and a few others. It helped but definitely wasn’t a fix. They are working on it so we are hoping for something soon. Fingers crossed.

Resell isn't that different in 10yrs. 4yr old rav4 is $4k more than a 2yr old rogue. Example 2020 rav4 w/ 50k miles - $24-26k +10yrs The 14y/o rav4 will have approx 150k miles and be worth $6k-7k A 22rogue with 40k miles -$20-22k +10yrs The 12y/o rogue with 150k miles will be worth $4500-$5500 Both depreciate down to about $2-3k of each other with the rav4 being worth more but the starting point of a rav4 is also about $4k more. Rogue saves in gas but possibly cost more in maintenance. Tough choice

I just traded my 2019 Rogue SV for a 2024 Rogue SV premium. I’m impressed with the upgrades. The 2024 has more bells and whistles than my old Rogue. And the panoramic window above is a nice touch to have… but not as important to me. I love the heated steering and seats and all the driving assistance options. I love the camera on the 2024. Overall… I was very happy with the 2019 build and stayed loyal to Nissan. Note: I’m not a huge driver… my 2019 had less than 22K miles on it. Never had any problem with it.

Of the gas versions, I give the RAV4 the edge. They're very close in a lot of the comparisons, but the reliability of the RAV4's 2.5 4-banger over the smaller turbocharged Rogue puts the RAV4 over the top. Personally, I'd go with the hybrid, which would push it even higher. I also find the Toyota instrument/button layout more intuitive for my tastes.

Get out of here! I did the same thing too! 😂 I went to Yellowstone last May and the Enterprise people gave me the option of renting a Rogue or a RAV. I chose the Rogue, because I had a Sentra at home. After a week of driving it in Wyoming, I fell in love with the car. I so wanted to take it home as a souvenir, but I couldn’t. But I had been contemplating upgrading my Sentra for a while so I decided to buy the 2024 Rogue last week at a nearby Nissan dealer that I like. I went for the SV Premium AWD. Had I not rented that car, I’d have still been considering Subaru Outback or BMW X3. I do have bit of a bias. When it comes to Japanese cars, I tend to rate Nissan as a better car than Toyotas or Hondas.

Every car is shiny, sparkling and reliable when new. How they will be in 10 years should be considered when buying them. Maybe you can squeeze a few thousand extra kms from the brakes of that RAV4. Maybe you won't have to change the transmission fluid, shocks, bushings and engine mounts that often. It's those little things that make the difference.

I was comparing the two before I bought the Rogue in summer. One of the biggest deciding factor was the second row seat. The Rogue is more comfortable than the RAV4. The interior in overal was better as well. The ride quality on the RAV4 is a bit rough, and the engine is loud. The Rogue is much more refined on this.

I agreed with Consumer Reports, the Rogue gas is way superior to the outdated Rav4 gas. Rav4 hybrids after the refresh will likely be a nice option, but for now there's a reason the Rogue scored so much higher, and ditto on Motortrend scoring the Rogue so much higher. But some people trust the name Rav4 just based on decades of reputation rather than the actual car.

If it’s ready the most reliable car on the market why are you concerned with resale. Toyota is not more reliable than Nissan, it’s a fact. Mechanic logs show that Toyota cost more to maintain, and owners spend more every year on Toyota repairs even with Nissans cvt problems from years ago. I own a repair shop, and I’m not the only mechanic who shows records like this. There are a few on KZbin who report it too. It’s just hearsay that Toyota is more reliable than Nissan.

I'm curious if you have noticed the Rogue's turbo having a annoying low grade spinning/grinding/whining sound that shows up between 15-45 mph and more specifically when the car is coasting (foot pressure removed from accelerator pedal)? I bought a 2023 Platinum AWD. I love the car, in general. But I did not hear that awful low grade high pitched grinding whistle before i took the car home. I only noticed at after I had a chance to drive it around town by myself. I took it to the dealer and they tested another one they had there that was just delivered from the factory. It had the same characteristic. I was told it was a characteristic of the turbo design and it was not defective. I'm wondering how many owners of the 2022/2023 version (those are the years with the newer turbo charged engine) have noticed this too? Or if anyone doing reviews has noticed it? The solution is to have music playing all the time, then you don't hear it. Also above 40-45 mpg or on the highway, it's not noticable because of the road and wind noise being louder than the turbo whine.

If your intention is to keep your vehicle a long time, Rav4 is my choice, mainly because of its 2.5's engine reputation, the 8 speed transmission, and the timing chain. The Rogue has a timing belt, and a CVT transmission (basically a belt). Nissan do offer more electronic gizmos, but those gizmos don't make the vehicle trouble free or last any longer. Toyota will get you there reliably, for a VERY long time.

I’d definitely choose RAV4 over the Nissan here, I like the 2.5 over the 1.5, and could put a turbo on that if you wanted still. Also I do prefer the design of it and the clearance is technically better for the RAV4. I did a lot of looking around before getting my last car, and did get a RAV4, albeit the 2022. I love it and wouldn’t want to change it out for anything really. That said, the fact the Nissan Seats fold down all the way, and that cool storage area under the center console were super rad and I’d love to see those implemented into the RAV. Overall though, I’d say they’re both pretty cool, but final decision considerations I’d be looking into would be the reputation and reliability and at least when I looked into it: The Toyota RAV4 Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 3rd out of 26 for compact SUVs, and The Nissan Rogue Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 13th out of 26 for compact SUVs.

Looks goes to Rogue. Rav 4 was cool 6 years back Now, I’d prefer the 2.5 hybrid over the Rogue’s 3 cylinder. Id entertain Leasing the Rogue but I wouldnt want to keep a unique engine long term

I love both SUVs 🚙, I love the Rogue for the styling and the technology and the RAV4 for the quality/reliability. I looked at the Tiguan, the CX-5, the Tucson and the CR-V. The CR-V handling was kind of lackluster, the Tiguan the maintenance would be too expensive for me but drove like an Audi and the Tucson was a very smooth ride but the resale value would be not so good along with getting bored 🥱 with it after 3-5 years. The Rogue has impeccable performance, handling and great styling. The RAV4 has the Lexus like handling and some pretty good safety features along with the reliability. I wanted the Rogue but the RAV4 would be more reliable as I heard bad reviews on the Rogue. My final decision is going to be the RAV4 Limited or Lexus NX250 Premium. The CX-5 is a great choice with great performance, reliability and handling along with safety features that are great but it is too cramped for me.

You buy the Toyota, always. The Nissan is alright, but then you still buy the Toyota. Better resale, better reliability, better designed and engineered. You get the Nissan because you inherited it! 😅

My wife has a rav 4 2022, my daughter also 2022. Both limited, but both came with different options. This is what tics me coff about toyota/lexus. When you ask for top of the line you expect FULL OPTIONS !!! but not with toyota/lexus. I own a hyundai limited. Full options !!! Remote start, blue link with remote start with 4 options for the different seasons. We take my car 90 % of the time !!! Better ride, smart park, not even close !!!

Unfortunately Nissan has lost so much ground since the 70’s. I don’t see them ever catching up again. Long term not many Nissan vehicles keep high values like a Toyota does. The 240Z & Roadster days of the 60’s & 70’s are long gone.

I would pick Rogue if not for the recent class action lawsuit. This new engine seems to have some problems with gas smell/oil dilution. Hopefully, Nissan will do something about it quickly and I will be able to change my mind.

This is true. My 2023 Platinum Rogue has a gas smell. There was a hose change that was supposed to be a fix. The smell while idle is gone but in the garage is not. It is much less but still there. Apparently they are still working on it as they know it doesn’t help all Rogues so I’m still hoping. Fingers crossed because I LOVE it.

The Rogue is obviously better overall but Toyota is much better at marketing and protecting their brand, giving people the impression their vehicles are more reliable.

@@fallguy4209 ...a lot, actually. While Nissan has had their ups and downs with CVT, prior to the CVT era, their cars were every bit as reliable. In the past Toyota's maintained great reliability for their engines and transmissions, but everything else on them used to break down, from the stereos to the horns, to the cheaply made bumpers.
