GM Sued for Selling Customer Data How could anyone at gm think this was a good idea or even legal, with the small revenue gained versus possible legal fees and customers being disgusted. I would have thought they learned their lesson on "under-the-table stuff" related to the ignition switch disaster. Best to wait until all the facts are on the table, innocent until proven guilty is what I learned while on jury duty not that long ago. It appears auto insurance rates have increased around 26% across the board last year for all drivers and 44% since 2022 not just for gm.

You can be certain GM lawyers carefully crafted the fine print that allows them to do that. Selling customer data is an important future revenue stream for automakers. That is why they put so much engineering effort into SDV, OTA and other technologies that make data collection sooo easy.

Probably the two major reasons for EV adoption being higher than many thought with apartments/multi unit residents is because many are trying to keep costs down. Electricity prices are lower than gas, even if you use public charging. Then add in maintenance costs are lower as well. Would not be surprised if these same people primarily are buying Bolts, Model 3, and used EVs. Probably not many buying $70,000 EVs in this group.

@@Pernection Nonsense, why? Do you rent? Most renters I know count every dollar they spend. Get a Bolt for under $30,000 or a used EV for under $20,000 and be able to recharge cheaper than buying gas with no oil changes, no annual SMOG test (California), and usually nicer for daily driving. When I got my Model 3, I was paying $300 a month in gas. Now I pay $85 in extra power fees on my power bill. That helped me to dump my ICE vehicle.

The US should adopt the same policies that the UK has regarding use and sale of customer data. The customer has to opt in to their data being used or sold in clear language specified at the time of exchange of goods or services. I hope GM ends up paying a huge fine for their sneakiness!

I'm surprised Stellantis's warranty costs are much lower than Ford's, I think the Jeep is the least reliable brand you can get. Probably because of their really short warranty periods, Jeep must have perfected the art of timing warranty expiration with planned obsolescence designs. Imho, based on experience, my sister's Jeep died at around 50k miles, juuust past warranty cutoff.

Yep it's one of the big reasons they can "afford" to put OnStar in every car and give free basic functions in areas with cell coverage like car starting and vehicle location, even if only a fraction of folks are subscribed to the pay services or not, they are making profit hand over fist for the life of the vehicle selling driving data for every VIN, they have been doing it for decades now.

VW still seems like they are behind on the EV game if they are saying battery prices are too high when the largest battery makers are saying they are going to ser as much as a 50% drop in battery costs this year, so the industry seems to be seeing major reductions. That should mean by 2026 when they would need to be commiting to a production location for the ID1 if they have any hope of starting production in 2027, battery prices will likely be much lower. I do think we will see 50% cost drops every year, but if batteries are 65% cheaper by 2027, that should help a ton for keeping vehicle production costs down

GM's management should wear the classic "I am with stupid" shirt during work hours. Yes, privacy invasions are everywhere. Nowadays, they force you to "open an account" to control lights and whatnot. However, automakers have made crass moves and taken despicable actions. Take care of your customers, and they will take care of you.

3:45 - DON'T FORGET: a german / european price is a different beast than americans think ! 20.000€ means that based on american habits and standards the net price has to be mentioned which is 20.000 minus VAT = 20.000 / 1,19 if you refer to VW prices mentioned in germany. 16.800€ is a lot less than 20.000€ I bet even in the USA especially for entry level EV regardless what currency. 16.800€ means currently 18.300 $ I suggest to mention 20.000€ as the price announce but to always put that into the american perspective which would mean a net price of 18.300 $ European dealers for what ever is sold to end customers have to show the end prices including everything. Also here it is forbidden to add fees or even force customers to tip cause a tip is a free choice here.
