Lastly, as much as I agree with his admiration of Musk and Tesla, it doesn't add to the quality of the content, and can be a distraction, so I agree with you there as well. Robotics is going to change the landscape tremendously. Congress is probably going to rewrite the tax code. Currently, the employer and employee split the FICA tax. Social Security and Medicare combined is 15.3% So an employee pays 7.65%. That money funds SSA & Medicare presently. As for the 12V accessory battery that EVs come with, people don't realize that if that thing fails you will get all kinds of weird error messages on your display that do not necessarily mention the 12V battery and you may be at a loss to figure out the issue. Lead acid batteries tend to last much longer in EVs than they do in ICE cars because they don't have much of a load (they don't have to turn over a power-hungry starter but just activate a relay that engages the main battery) and they don't run in very hot engine bays (EVs make very little heat), so it's easy to forget about them and that's when they fail. The first thing I did when I got my first EV (a 2016 Kia Soul EV+) was replace the lead acid battery with a lithium ion deep cycle battery and it has been flawless. Lithium ion batteries have many advantages, like power retention for many months of non-use, lightweight, temperature tolerance and so on. If you want to do this, be sure you get one that has a BMS built-in and is deep cycle. They're around $200 on Amazon.

When do the production numbers make the Cyber Truck eligible for NHTSA crash testing?
@tesla_tap
@tesla_tap 2 ай бұрын
My understanding is NHTSA picks vehicles it's interested in and is not some set production number. Most high-end cars like Ferrari are never tested. If I were to guess, the Cybertruck might be tested sometime in 2026. In 2020, they only tested 49 vehicles. The manufacturer does not have a say in what is tested, but provide vehicles if requested.

@BTC_Minarchist

I wasn't sure how the selection for crash tests by NHTSA & IIHS was done, so I did a quick search. Here's what I found. Pretty interesting. Hope it helps. The NHTSA and IIHS have different approaches to selecting vehicles for crash testing: **NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration):** * **Focus:** NHTSA prioritizes testing vehicles that are: * Newly introduced models or significantly redesigned vehicles. * Vehicles with high sales volumes. * Vehicles with concerns raised about their safety based on data or consumer complaints. * **Selection Methods:** NHTSA uses a combination of factors to choose vehicles, including: * Manufacturer submissions: Manufacturers can volunteer their vehicles for testing. * Government purchase: NHTSA may purchase vehicles from dealerships themselves. * Data analysis: NHTSA analyzes data on crash rates, complaints, and sales figures to identify high-priority vehicles. **IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety):** * **Focus:** IIHS strategically selects vehicles based on: * Market share and popularity. * Availability of new safety technologies. * Filling gaps in their testing data (e.g., testing a new body style within a particular vehicle class). * **Selection Methods:** IIHS primarily acquires vehicles through: * Anonymous purchases from dealerships: This ensures the test vehicles are representative of what consumers actually buy. * Occasionally, manufacturers may donate vehicles if the testing aligns with their interests. **Key Differences:** * **NHTSA:** More data-driven approach, focusing on high-volume vehicles and potential safety concerns. * **IIHS:** More strategic approach, aiming to test a representative sample of the market and evaluate new technologies. In both cases, the goal is to provide consumers with a comprehensive picture of vehicle safety across the industry.

Why do you ask? Tesla has been crash testing the CT since it was a collection of bits in the computers. They have crash testing in Fremont and built a 2nd crash test facility in Austin presumably to crash test the CT. The geometry of the CT makes it strong. The passengers are protected by a very strong cage with single piece ultra high strength boron steel sides just like the 3 and Y. etc Unless they ding it on ADAS it may well break their scoring system again.

Ask most people in the U.S. to name an electric vehicle company, and one word will immediately come to mind: Tesla. Elon Musk’s EV firm has dominated discourse-and dominates the market in many areas. It had a 62% share of the EV market in the United States in 2022. But times are tough, and Monday’s announcement that Tesla will be laying off more than 10% of its staff, or 14,000 people, is an indication that dominance is slipping. In 2023, Tesla’s share of the U.S. EV market dropped to 55%. And in China, it’s rapidly losing ground. What’s going on is a simple case of market economics. While Tesla was one of the first to make and sell electric vehicles at scale in the mainstream, others have caught up-and look poised to overtake it, right as interest in the EV sector starts to slow.

Amusing to see Autoline spin FSD price drop as a negative, legacy thinking basically. - What's the most valuable thing in implementing vehicle autonomy? Driving data. - What's Tesla's biggest advantage here beside best in class dev team? The autonomous capable fleet. Result: Three orders of magnitude more driven miles than 2nd place thanks to that, and the gap is only growing. - What does lower price do to FSD adoption? It's not a linear curve vs price, the growth is exponential. Is Tesla better off with (lets say) 100k $199/M customers or 500k $99/Mth customers in terms of recurring revenue and, much more importantly, autonomy miles? (I know I'm tempted to get it now after the month trial, it's such an impressive feature, I love it) - Tesla is no longer compute limited this year. Time to accelerate that flywheel. - FSD is now safe enough for wider deployment, it exited "beta" status and now starting to get treated like Autopilot in terms of customer access. Put 2 and 2 together with that and see what the big picture looks like.

@@suserman7775 - Quite relaxing. After a 500 mile trip I'm far more relaxed than in prior ICE cars without FSD. You still need to pay attention, but think of FSD looking out for other crazy drivers you might not even see, keeping your car centered in the lane and slowing/speeding up for those ahead. Far better than dumb cruise control.

Self driving will be synonymous with cars in the not distant future. With or w/o Tesla this is the path forward. Do you want to delay this for profit or just kill more people. Sounds harsh but it is the reality.

What is there to defend? Just look at the big picture, not what the lagging sponsors is deflecting with in corporate media as they retreat to hybrids: ICE sales continue to crash, EV sales continue to climb, now ~12 percent of the auto market, which is up from ~6 percent within a single year. EV growth "slowing down" spin, on a growing volume is spun as an EV problem, at a bad economic period and slowest seasonal quarter noless, but the reality is that EV market leaders - Tesla, China, Koreans, possibly BMW - are growing their EV marketshares at the expense of the laggards.

@AllanSustainabilityFan
@AllanSustainabilityFan 2 ай бұрын
@@benjaminsmith2287 It does not matter who understands the disruption and who does not. I find it entertaining up to a point, debating it is just fun sometimes. Remember how Tesla was treated in 2016, and today it's bigger than Toyota in market cap, because the market began to understand the disruption taking place? Another emotional swing in market sentiment is meaningless to the actual reality of disruption taking its course. Quarterly thinkers such as WS miss the boat on such things regularly. You can go ahead and argue that Tesla should not be more valuable than laggard Toyota, that's fine. To me that's just the old guard's stance though, nothing new there in history of many past disruptions. Apple was not supposed to pass Xerox either, nor Ford passing Studebaker, nor Netflix passing Blockbuster. The list goes on. Toyota and other laggards retreating to hybrids is, imho, merely an early admission of defeat. It will become "oh that was so obvious" as usual down the road I'm betting.
