Think about this. If a new administration comes into power, they will increase tariffs on all cars and car parts made in China by at least 100%. The car with the most parts made in America is Tesla, and they are on track to be over 80%% on two of their models by 2026. Ford, GM, VW, Hyundai, Mercedes, and Stelantis are around 54% made in America, which does not account for their own EVs, which are less. It takes years for car manufacturers to change vendors and pass safety standards. Elon became a multi-billionaire by knowing which side his bread is buttered on. For other mfgs to meet these tariff requirements, they must increase prices by 27% in the short term, making Telsa made-in-America EVs very affordable against petro vehicles. New Teslas are targeted to increase ranges to meet the Chinese-made Zeekr 001 EV 620-mile range in early 2026 based on their new CATL-licensed batteries made in Sparks, Nevada. I thought I would never say this, but Elon is smart to endorse Trump.

The automotive industry stays alive by economy of scale. Porsche, Nissan, Mercedes, Stelantis, Toyota, VW, Ford, Audi, and GM feel the effects of not selling into China, the world's largest market. Porsche's parent stock (POAHY) has fallen over 50% in the last three years, and Nissan is now listed as junk. Companies like Jaguar, Porche, and Landrover have made major announcements in the last few weeks to drop over half of their petrol vehicles to be replaced by EVs next year. As 2/3 of the world market migrates to less expensive EVs, the US auto industry will become an Island manufacturing country, resulting in a reduced economy of scale.

Social media might be funny but losing your house, my business, and starting over during that time was far from amusing. All the cameras they sell are now rebranded from other companies. The other Rochester company that is barely holding on as a digital printing leader is Xerox. When Kodak refused to listen to the market, Xerox followed a similar path and gave up its IP by opening it up to others with no strings attached. The other major players in that town that are no longer around are GM's Delco, GM's RPD, who made carburetors and pushed off Bosch which came to them asking for help to make fuel injectors, and the last company is Bausch & Lomb, who, for the second time in 14 years, is on the verge of bankruptcy.

I live in California, and car insurance prices have gone up significantly. The avg price for Tesla insurance is over $2000/year. That's quite a bit, and with public chargers at 45 cents/Kwhr (or more), the economic incentive to own an EV is near zero unless you can charge at home, and those people were the early adopters. Apt dwellers in California are not going to adopt EV any time soon, so Tesla sales in California are plateauing. Nothing wrong with the product; it is a really simple and reliable vehicle, and they offer good value for the money. One thing Tesla could do is offer more colors. Spending a few thousand for a wrap which will degrade, is a not a good deal, and they are being lazy. You can get many others in 8 or more colors. Tesla only has 5 and they don't offer the nice silver they have in China here. A car has an emotional aspect, and Tesla is super boring.

Lots of disasters - huracanes, tornadoes, wildfires damaging many more cars than in the past. I agree apt owners are not ideal for EV owners, but most new apts in CA have EV outlets installed and many more are adding them. Still a long way to go though. That question usually splits Tesla investors. That and stock buy backs. Personally, I am not in favor of Tesla doing buy backs or advertising. Re: Buy backs - I think they need to maintain a high cash balance and avoid having to raise capital, for several reasons (you didn't bring this up,so I won't detail) Re: Advertising - I'd rather see them invest the $ in R&D and/or capital investments like new plants (energy and auto), and software. If you look at the amount GM has spent on advertising over the past 5 years (below), it's enough to have paid for built Giga Texas, the last Shanghai expansion, and possibly the two MegaPack factories. Ask 100 Tesla investors and you'll probably get close to a 50/50 split on the responses. 2023: $3.6 billion 2022: $4 billion 2021: $2.7 billion 2020: Could not find 2019: $3 billion

I am not surprised that Tesla sales are stalling/falling - it is the same in the UK. The early adopters are moving onto different EVs now that there is more choice and the traditional “petrolheads” have never been enamoured with the minimalist interiors and bland styling. However much you can admire the technology and the refinement now engineered into the Model 3 I don’t think Tesla’s really connect on an emotional level which they have to do for those splashing out with their own money. For the general consumer Tesla’s have become white goods and as such are held on to until they break.
