You can just open the AC app and turn the pump schedule off and it will not water till you turn it on or reenable the schedule. Soil you can get away with watering every couple days, pure coco you gotta water every day sometimes even a couple times a day in flower. We found it hard to make sure we were here or had the time to water so much this helps in that respect a TON.

Hi, love your helpful videos! I have used floraflex pots and have problems with clogging even with the little plastic filters, lol... What do you do to keep such clear cocoless runoff?
@IcannaHelp4 ай бұрын
The stronger pump a Pressure regulator valve is needed, adding this would enable you to run only 2 plants and more than you will ever need, but it is stronger than you would ever need a small seaflo 33 would be ideal and still be morr than you would ever need, either way a pressure regulator valve is needed when you decide to use micro drippers 25-35 psi is ideal and you may not have had the issue yet but with salts but microdrippers can easily clog if you dont have an inline filter, Super simple pump to 19mm poly use your emitter tool (type of pliers that pops a hole in the line so you can simply pop single, dual or quad emitters into your poly tubing) you can go floraflex or netafim. Floraflex pre-made drippers now come in 18" 24" 36" and 48". Each dripper for floraflex is .3gal/hr so if you use dual (1 emitter that has 2 drip stakrs) its going to be .6gal/hr and so on(they may have .5 now i know netafim does kinda simplfies the math). If you use the floraflex pot pro drain kit that larger pump would work great if has an auto float valve/switch to either pump back to reservoir like u are currently or to a waste tank or drain. Since your now measuring medium WC% & EC may want to switch to either one you prefer bucket company makes them charcoal & floraflex makes them and so much less labor intensive their compressed coco block pots from 1gal to 10 gal, this way your data/dry backs etc is more uniform you also know what WC% the block is and this helps you dial it your shot size or irrigation duration and frequency . 1 gallons with 2 stakes is something like 8x per day for 1 minute 20 seconds and then that goes to less times a day but a bit longer during flower. Floraflex crop steering guide I'd great all besides measuring shot size. Bottom line you can replicate each grow from water usage nutrients etc and then ur getting the advanced data to get the most healthy biggest yields possible all while using less.

Does the mix pump have an airline so it also a bubbler to oxygenate the water..?
@Highigan Жыл бұрын
Good question. It does not. In my previous setup I ran air stones to agitate the water vs the pump. One thing I found out was that air stone agitation increases the pH of the water over time. It would always creep up. After switching to the pump mix method the ph is ultra stable and requires almost no adjustment after you get it dialed over the week. I change out any leftover water once a week when I mix the new feed following the schedule. The water will get O2 added simply from spraying out the bubbler manifolds and filtering through the coco. We have ran about 3 plants out with this method so far and they are doing great as we continue to dial things in and experiment! We will have seed to harvest videos soon with this setup!

Can I program the controller 79 to water for 15 or 30 seconds instead of a whole minute?
@Highigan Жыл бұрын
Not currently 1min is the smallest amount of time, I am going to ask them about making some changes to the app for just this reason!
@brasco8721 Жыл бұрын
@@Highigan I have been using the Controller 79 for controlling my dehumidifier in a closed loop setup. It was one of the only controllers that I could find on the market that you could program a different humidity level depending on the time of day. This was so I could have my humidity drop even lower when the lights are off to account for the drop in temp. The controller does seem to fall short though when it comes to setting up auto irrigation when you are looking to program down to the seconds, which is important for people who want to water very small amounts very frequently multiple times per day. I have found that a simple smart plug that works with the Smartthings app(I use Kasa EP10) will allow you to set routines where you can for example have your pump turn on at 8 AM everyday and auto turn off after X amount of time including seconds. However, I have not found any smart plug that will work down to seconds without using an app like Smartthings.

@@Highiganyeah but EC is just total salt content this doesn't account for your plants taking nutes at different rates. If your npk ratio could be all out of whack and you could have the correct EC. @Highigan how did you prevent a siphon in this setup? I'm running into this issue pretty bad in my setup and cant lower my rez any further. At this point, water keeps flowing after the pump turns off
@brasco8721 Жыл бұрын
Hello, there are 2 options for this. 1) You can either raise your pots/drippers higher or 2) You can put a tiny hole in the tubing INSIDE the res at the highest point before the tubing exits the res facing down toward the water/res wall. The reason you do this inside the res is because water will be leaking out of the hole while the pump is running and you want it falling back into the res. This will break the siphon. Search for Stop Your Siphon - Easy Fix ✅ from floraflex on youtube for a demonstration of how this works. Good luck!
@PixelatedCJ Жыл бұрын
@@brasco8721 Thanks so much for the reply. I was having a hard time making either of those fixes work in my setup so I tried FloraFlex's Air Relief Valve and (even though thats not technically what its for) it fixed my siphon issue. The pressure of the siphon isn't strong enough to keep it closed so it reopens and lets air in to break the siphon.

What is the advantage of this setup over autopots?
@Highigan Жыл бұрын
Its top watering. No risk over overflow or valves getting stuck like in autopots. So many growers I know have delt with flooded tents or overflows from values getting stuck or jammed in an auto pot setup and coming home to a drained reservoir all over the tent or floor. The one failure point here would be if the return pump died, But it would take days to pump the reservoir out so hopefully it would be caught in time. We have been running this kind of setup for almost 6 months now.

I thought floraflex did not want to recirculate the run off.
@Highigan Жыл бұрын
You can if you check their website, it just says to make sure your EC and pH are maintaining. It does recommend changing the water every 7-14 days. I change out our water about once a week following the schedule. 5 gallons seems to last that long if not longer. If your EC starts to climb up simply add more fresh water, and adjust pH. Its super easy. We ran copycat on a recirculation setup like this and it grew amazing so we are diving into it more since it uses way less nutrients so they last longer and less water waste!

Love to see how high tech it has become. But this isnt a new way to water, we were doing this 25+ years ago with hydro. Just use a small aquarium pump on a timer and a run to waste pot set up, but you would put an additional pump into the waste tub and pump it back into the reservoir. We were running 200ltr reservoirs back then and the waste tub was either 60 ltrs or if you had to, a 45ltr tub. With those old horrible push pin mechanical timers. We would fill the ressy with nutes and you could go on holiday for a week no probs, as long as the timers didnt break or the cheap pumps give out-it was all good. This looks way better, but MUCH more expensive... to the point im wondering if its worth using or if I pay a ton for it, it would be cheaper to just buy buds. I do love new tech but you guys are using gear now that is so pricey how is it cheaper to grow your own when any money you save would be spent in the set up costs for all this hi tech gear? Be honest, if you were not sponsored and got most of this tech for free, would you ever fork out the insane set up costs to buy it all?? I spent a bit over a grand for my tent set up, so it would take me 6+ months to recoup that working on id be buying $200 worth of buds each month. To run all the gear you guys have, id have to run it all for 2 years just to break even. Aside from that point, I really do love you guys, both of ya's and hope you NEVER stop doing what your doing. Just dont forget some of us cant spend a fortune on every new shiny toy. Love from Australia.

The pump setup its self is pretty cheap and you could setup a 2-6 plant watering with this setup or modified version using different pots and even a liner to collect all runoff instead of individual bases. The bucket company runoff pump is a turn key drain pump but you could make one with just a pump on a timer and it would be much less, you could use the controller 79 to run the waste pump along with your feeding / mix pumps to make it easy / digital or like you said the older manual timer ones. There are is a lot of ways you could set this up for sure and make it cheaper. The pulse hub is pricey that was given to us for testing. I gotta say I love the ability to see what's going on from the tank to the medium with real data and not having to check constantly the ph and ec or collect runoff. It makes sense for large ops or large grows. Maybe not at this scale, and if you have a decent ph/ec pen its not required. This is just an overview of the setup we are running now since we get so many questions I wanted to cover it all. Or you can use it as a blueprint for making your own setup based on your needs and budget!

I don't know if I'd like the recirculation with old runoff. Your supposed to have runoff to get the nutrients out of your media that the plant isn't using. Seems like you would just be putting the bad back in with the good.

Waaaaaaaaaay too much going on and waaaaaaaaaay too much money being spent for an automatic setup. I run RDWC with a NIWA Growhub. My whole grow, minus the tent and light, costs less than the pulse pro itself. Thank God for sponsorships, eh Highigan? More power to you and continued success bringing cannabis to the people but there are much simpler, and cheaper, ways to have control of your grow. Thanks but no thanks.

They earned those sponsorships and they worked hard for everything they have, it’s not like it’s a handout, they put in a lot of work to get to where they are.

Nice But damn 550$ for the pulse.

A par meter alone is more than the pulse, then tack on a CO2 ppm meter.. Its not cheap but if you are looking for advanced monitoring its probably your best option on the market that can do all those things and more.

I recommend keeping the expensive unnecessary gear like the pulse outta your videos to keep things more realistic for your viewers. Just a tip. Things like that can really turn people off especially being it was given to you.

@@Highigan lol read your comments section. Oh wait you already did . So you know they’re a few people who’s turned off by some of the gear y’all push. Would you even be putting out content if you guys didn’t get gear sent for free. Come on don’t act like you’re doing it ( for the community) . And yes you absolutely should take your subscribers advice because without us wtf would you be.. quit getting a hard on when your viewers are giving you advice I mean it’s for us right. I agree pulse may not be in the budget for every grower but the data is valuable, and its not a requirement of the watering system to work correctly, you can put something like this together very cheap. The features are awesome and if you were to buy all the things separately it can read it would be much more expansive. The data it lets us record and incorporate into videos is great since we constantly get asked about conditions, now we can easily show them over the grow. Its an advanced tool for growers who wanna take their grow to the next level. Nerds who want that data and advanced monitoring. Maybe not in the budget for some new growers, but if it turns into a passion it might be something that can elevate someone to that next level when they are ready. And no they are not "free" we invest a crazy amount of time, money and energy into creating our content. We don't get paid for views, infact youtube makes it very difficult to publish our content or support the work we do. If a company likes what we do and its a product we would actually use and is quality why would we not use it in our grow or try it? Even if some people may not be able to afford there is an equal number of people who would find it useful. They can use our discount which saves them money and helps our channel. Its a win win for everyone and helps us keep creating videos for everyone to enjoy.. You don't have to use anything we are, we are just showing what we are using and how. You don't need anything fancy to grow, just soil, sun and a bean. 💚💨

If anybody reads this do not ever recirculate your drain to waste with coco/soil/substrate.

It’s also a great way to over water you plants. But goat head
@Highigan Жыл бұрын
Not with the coco pretty much impossible to over water, hoping AC modifies their controller firmware to allow under 1min watering and intervals.

This is overkill to the max, and a very unnecessary amount of power used just to water your plants.

These channels are just commercial spam at this point. They don't care if a product is terrible or unnecessary or overpriced.. for a few dollars they'll push anything you want

@Highigan ppl could save alot of money with just using the floraflex drainage system and the bubbler and a simple. Condensate pump as a return and a 1/6 hp submersible pump that bucket company return pump is over 3 times as much as a condensate pump the floraflex kit is more than enough to flood and drain f the bucket company floraflexin on there bih ahhs
