Dude I’ve been trying to tell people this. I have an outdoor veggie garden with large very hungry pepper and tomato plants. Simple setup, layer of compost, then a layer of compost / top soil mixed in my wheel barrel then weekly fish emulsion feedings from a 7 dollar bottle from Lowe’s that will last me all year. When they start to flower I’ll change the food. Tomatoes and marijuana are sooooo similar even to the way they don’t like their leaves wet. These small startups are pushing glorified products at huge margins to capitalize on people getting into growing with no experience and it’s causing word of mouth to drive all these unneeded products. I got suckered in, it wasn’t until I started growing other harvestable plants that I realized the gimmick. But that’s how everything works :). Just think, yield is technique, growing in general has been happening for thousands of thousands of years.
@TheLittleSpoon1982 Жыл бұрын
That’s not even talking about compost, a good compost negates the need for almost all supplements. You just feed new compost into your soil every couple of weeks
@troyb4533 Жыл бұрын
You don’t even need that. You really don’t need any kind of products. Compost and aged woodchips. Both of which can be obtained or created for free. Marijuana is one of the simplest plants to grow. It doesn’t require really any kind of special care to obtain a high quality crop, just basic care. I’ve grown pepper varietirs that were more difficult than weed

The cats make more Co2 than the shroom bags. So does a gas water heater or stove. Cook dinner and pet the kittys, you're pushing 1000ppm. I also noticed if you live near a busy road, it runs high (700ish), not so much in my country home (400 in the sticks) The round Oled display monitors (PTHD) are a good investment for about $75 and agree with the Inkbird within 10ppm. They're rechargeable and portable, fun to carry around. I have a full Co setup with the Inkbird controller, and it does work, but conditions have to be perfect (heat & humidity) to use it. During the heat of summer, forget it unless you're running mega AC/Dehumidification gear. PH/EC meters - Bite the bullet and buy Blue lab or other quality unit. Buy once, cry once. Cheap ones are no deal. Worse is the damage they do to your plants when they are wrong, I keep 2 to check against each other. Terrabloom is another top product lineup. Their fans come with a digital & analog control and remote interface cable all standard in the box, all with waterproof o-ringed locking cable connectors. Terrabloom or AC all the way on fans and carbon filters. Hope my long post helps some people out. Peace.

Great channel! I need to preface my comment… Buy the best gear you can. Do your research! But, if you're just starting out and on a budget. Here is my number one bit of advice. Don't spend a lot on a tent. I bought two tents, 15 years ago. A 5x5 and 4x4/1x4 combination tent. They cost a bit over two hundred dollars, in total. I have grown a dump truck full of weed with them and they are still going strong. The 4x4/1x4? Doesn't even have a brand name attached to it. The 5x5 is a Topogrow. That's not even a thing! The point is… no tent ever grew a stick of cannabis. Genetics, lights, nutrients, and proper growing practices. That's the ticket! My very first grow tent? I made it. I used panda film and PVC piping. It was 3x6. I still use the light that was in it. I learned how to grow with that homemade tent.

I have a Chapin watering jug. At the force it sprays, is that sufficient for the watering? I have seen guys using the sprayers that you use on a garden hose. Do you guys just use your spray jug and completely saturate? Does the water get pulled from the top?

I have always made my own composted soil. The only bottle nutrients I ever use is cal/mag ,silicate and unsulfared molasses during the flowering stage. I grow entirely organic otherwise.

I have 7 raised beds out back in my garden. They are 3'x12' so all my used soil goes there. I go 100% organic in both indoor and outdoor. By the way , I bought one of those ph pens using your code. Like you I have spent hundreds of dollars on junkie ones that dont last a whole grow.

I use the cheap $50 exhaust fans with the variable speed knob, 2 have died in the last year and another is making grinding sounds. AC said the oscillating clip fans are due to release the end of the month, I think I need to pair a Cloudline exhaust with it & the controller 69 I won from the Highigan family :)

I would almost recommend new growers to use ph test strips first. This will save them money if they decide growing isn't for them or until they can get a good pen. Also, I've never understood tossing soil out lol. Good video gang. Love it. Peace.

if ur growing organically there's 0 reason to ph anything the soil will balance it out for you
@yamagrow4202 жыл бұрын
I second that notion. Ph strips are cheap and very effective. Don’t need to use too often once you get your formulas and mix down, you’ll know what the ph is.

a few other things...if you want to propagate cuttings you don't have to spend $$$ on a fancy cloning device and even solution. Just use SHARP tools and you can root them in a cup of water! It might take a few extra days but it works. Also, don't reuse your soil if you've had pest issues like root aphids or root mealybugs unless you bake it between grows.
@Playingwith3D5 ай бұрын
I drop the cutting right into a cup of soil and put it in a plastic bag to keep the moisture in and put them out in the window sill. I get nearly a 100% clone success no rooting hormone or anything just water and potting soil. I have clones ready usually within two three weeks.

When I was a noob 25 years ago, I just used the plain old ph up and down (NEVER needed up) and test drops. Still all I use now that laws have changed in this state and I can get into my hobby again. Ph isn’t mysterious. It’s quite simple really. Especially since there’s now automatic ph adjusting nutrients. All you REALLY need is good light good dirt and 6.5 water. Everything else you learn on subsequent crops.

Is this the son of Scotty Real? The voice is very similar and sounds like a younger version. If you have a spot outside you can keep two batches of dirt and swap them out after each grow. This gives you time for amending the soil and gives it time to recover. My friend had a good size little grow operation and he threw the soil out after each crop. I always thought that was a waste. It's not going to hurt the quality but I don't think it's worth it, and soil can be reconditioned. I made part of my soil and bought part of it. But I have a big compost pile that should be ready by the time these plants are finished. I spray water on the compost pile and it gets the stuff cooking faster. I'm going to look into what I can add to it to accelerate it.

I know this is an old post but considering you made your own watering system you could probably build your own CO2 system. Vinegar and Baking Soda... I made a drip system back in the 80's but it was a cobbled together thing and probably not too effective but the principle is sound. Drip vinegar into a baking soda slurry and CO2 is released. Or perhaps it would be better the other way round... Either way, mix those to things and you get CO2 gas. But careful you don't mix too much at a time lol It is the same process they make those volcanoes for science fairs erupt with. Drip not pour.
@paulveenings686110 ай бұрын
Did you have it going 24/7 or only when lights are on ?
@Spiritbro7710 ай бұрын
@@paulveenings6861 24-7 until the vinegar ran out or the soda slurry became to weak. Then next time I checked them I would set it up again. It's not a perfect solution but it does release CO2.
@Spiritbro7710 ай бұрын
Oh and that was in the 80s things have come a long way since then so if some industrious person were to build a system now... it would likely work infinitely better. :)

I use the bluelab ph soil pen. It’s a little pricey but worth it for hydro, coco coir and soil grows. I also have the cheap yellow $13 ph pen. They have there place and I must have either been lucky or just taken care of it properly because mine still works after years and is very accurate but definitely invest in decent equipment you can count on being accurate, that last and can be repaired if something does break.
