Finally ordered the echo sub just yesturday! I already had two echo 2nd gens in my room hooked up to my fire stick 4k, which has given me a great experiance! Looking forward to adding this to the mix to create my 2.1 home theatre set up! Hmmm I think I will play some good old TOP GUN for the first movie after my set up has been complete!

Thanks for the informative review. It's especially helpful to me because I knew nothing about this subwoofer other than it exists. Speaking of which, of all the Amazon products with Alexa, this has been the most unexpected to me - even more so than the microwave! I may be in the minority, but I like the 1st Gen Echo Plus's metallic exterior more than the cloth of the 2nd Gen. I do have two cats, so the cloth picking up fur is something I think about.

You're not in the minority necessarily. I've been given a lot of feedback on the cloth exterior of all these products. They definitely will get dirty over time, and I'll tell ya...a couple of cats will accelerate that process. That is, if they don't sharpen their claws on it first! Even more so than the clock?! The microwave!?

@@AutomateYourLife Oh, I didn't even think about cats using the cloth exterior as a scratching post! The microwave wasn't a complete surprise because the smart home has been heading into the kitchen. The clock is more unexpected than the microwave to me. I guess I just didn't have the foresight to know a smart subwoofer was coming! In any case, I'm still Team Google Assistant. Also, I have a Bose SoundTouch 300 + Bose Acoustimass 300 subwoofer setup, so I'm set.

Great review!!! I'm curious, is there a way, using a fire stick and/or alexa app, to use this sub and other echo devices as a sound system for the tv? Since I can't do bluetooth, I'm wondering how to get the sound from my tv to the echo devices. Also, are there other, maybe higher quality subwoofers that can be connected to echo devices or just the echo sub? Thanks in advance for helping me out!!

If you can't do Bluetooth, there's not a lot of good options. Especially not for a sub. What you could look at are some of the Fire TV soundbars that are available that encompass everything you need. :)

3rd Generation Echo actually has the speaker size of the current Echo Plus. The Echo Studio is a HUGE improvement in sound quality vs an Echo. So...you're basically just talking about 2nd Gen < 3rd Gen < Studio

It's good to see these products reviewed, however I can't get past the thought that having 2 Echo's linked into this set up is a waste of smart speaker functionality, in essence you are going to 'brick' one of the Echo's by having it in such close proximity to the other

@@AutomateYourLife Thanks for the feedback. I considered that. But, as great as they sound streaming Dolby Atmos or Sony 360 Reality Audio there’s a bit of missing “umph” in the lower frequencies I want to capture. I’m thinking/hoping that $130 nudge will fill out that bottom with more richness.

@@AutomateYourLife Well, my Echo Sub arrived a couple of days ago. Paired with my (2) Studios about 30 feet apart with the Sub about halfway between but across the room is PHENOMENAL!!!! Grabbed that frequency bottom I felt was a bit lacking with the paired Studios and turned this setup into a bona fide Audio System! Not quite serious Audiophile quality but not terribly far off. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

Thank you Brian, good review. I was expecting more from the sub-woofer, I do not know if it was your choice of music or the speaker. I personally would have used a different song with a stronger base side as well as a mix of treble. Overall it was interesting, but I don't think I will buy it. Thank you though.

@@AutomateYourLife the best genre for testing speakers is probably hip hop. Trap music to be specific, I’m not a huge trap fan but the trap beats never lie when it comes to speaker quality

Just one sub for a home theater setup. You could do two separate home theater setups with 2 studios though, and then have 2 subs. But you can't play two separate home theater setups through the same TV/Fire TV

Turn it up! I use a mic that captures a full sound frequency range. I also output in a lossless format. The only compression happens on YT side.

I am guessing Stacey means on her phone or tablet. Truth is you have to have a decent stereo preferably with a sub to even here it and even then you are really just listening to hear bass changes not audio quality as you are hearing through your speakers and system.
