I've had this lock since last Tuesday and I really like it. I love all the unlock options with the keypad. As for the design, I think it looks quite nice from the front facing point of view. I was put off by the bulk too when it was first announced. But after having it for a while, it honestly doesn't bother me. Not everyone can get over the brick design though. But if you want to get technical I could argue that it's a benefit because it reduces the travel time to manually lock or unlock 😆

Yeah I think people are shocked initially...but it's not bad at all once you've had it a few days. Not for everyone and maybe some other colors will help?

Love the video as always. Is there a lock that would work with a mutipoint lock in the UK (the type where you have to lift the doorhandle before you can lock the door)?
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
Hey Chris! That's a tough one but I believe there's some options for you here with SwitchBot. They do have multipoint lock options. I just don't know about the lift mechanism...and I haven't seen much there.

Happy Sunday Brian, seems to be a great retrofit lock which has one major drawback for me. The huge button to unlock it, as you showed it can be deactivated, but it would be my preferred option to unlock it myself from inside. But the size of the button is not pet friendly Dogs are going to get excited when someone approaches the door and if they jump against it the lock will open (maybe some 3D printed cover would help with a smaller finger sized hole in the middle). Would prefer some option that the lock knows no one is home and disables this button during that time. Maybe on a routine I could set to have it disable during the hours everyone is out to work.

Great idea Gary! I'll suggest that to SwitchBot. I'm sure they're checking comments too. I'd like to see a few more options for routines/automations with this lock too!

To avoid frequent battery replacements, would there be a way to power over Ethernet with a cable through the door hinge side, with batteries for backup if burglars shut down power?
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
I don't see any way to do anything like that today. There's really no ports for power or connectivity!

Good idea though!

This is a really good video. A lot of interesting ideas. But I just can't reconcile having a toaster stuck to the side of my front door. That thing is simply too too big
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
Ahahahaha, a whole toaster! That's why it's ideas! Find one that fits your life and home! :)

Life is like a box of chocolates, you're never going to know what functionality means you're going to need a proprietary hub!

Any good smart locks that don't require you to fiddle with the internal mechanisms? Something for renters?
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
This is about as close as it gets! SwitchBot also has a Lock (not pro) version that doesn't cause you to touch anything. Lots of the same features, but not quite as refined. You can also look at Wyze's lock and I think Yale has a brand new one with Thread

Switchbot should move that "Send Warning Alert via SMS and Email" feature from the keypad and put it in a standalone button. Then people could put them in their homes, carsm maybe on their person to send a notice for help anywhere. I'd buy a half dozen and give them to family members. Just don't need another lock to get that feature.

That's a great request! I'll make sure they see it obi!

@@AutomateYourLife Thank you for deciding to pass it along to Switchbot. If I understood correctly, it connects to the hub? That would be great for home. People that are vulnerable for any number of reasons could program it in advance. Then if the need presented itself, with the button in a pocket, clipped to clothing or in the safe room, bathroom, they could simply press and send that prepared message. Even if they send a prepare message to a friend to call 911, would be a great safety device. Yes, of course would be nice if someone had the phone to make a call or text, but not everyone has their phone handy and someone might separate them from their phone. Having a button in a bedroom, garage or safe room could be a life safer. And there's the daily, "Hey where are you SMS that someone could send, right? If another feature was connecting via BT, it could also connect to the phone and would be faster with a SMS or email from the car. Some states don't want you holding a phone. Pressing a button would be great.
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
@obijuan- you're right. It's through the hub! And yeah, this was the use case for a number of emergency products I've seen...but it ties in so well with their system!

2 different types of batteries required? You can use rechargeable batteries in the lock but not the keypad....weird. AAs in the lock is strange as you would think that the lock would need more power to work than the keypad.

I think it's just releasing products at different times

I enjoyed the video but will NEVER implement an automated door lock. I refuse to let a machine control my perimeter security. Thankfully, I have no need to even consider one.
