It’s very cool how the chickens can come outside. And even go back inside if they want.

Here's a quick tip: disconnect the plug and put the wire on the inside, then reconnect the plug to the controller. This makes a much cleaner exterior finished look. You will need an exit hole which you can deal with silicone. Mix the exterior paint, a tiny bit, with the silicone, to dye the silicone for a savvy professional looking seal. I just bought one of these. I did not like the instructions booklet layout.
@ZittleFarms2 жыл бұрын
Ha. I started to do that and then I just wanted to get it up in running!! I should go back and do that! I did it the fast easy way. I like the way you think though!! Thanks
@gq4u85 Жыл бұрын
Never use silicone on anything you want to paint, paint will not stick to silicone. Use a quality polyurathane caulking instead, or good painter's caulk with a silicone additive. : )

What happens when the battery is low / dies? Any kind of indicator or does it just not close one day.

@@ZittleFarms this video has been up for 10 months so you saying your battery still haven't died that's very good considering they said at least 6 months. I've just ordered mine hopefully they last that long

Hey!! I checked last month and the battery level was still at 80%. It is great. I think they say 6 months for if you add the light options.. maybe. Not sure. Thanks for your comment though!! It sure is worth every dollar!

Hi, Thanks for the review. Could you let me know if it's water and snow proof? Thanks for your time.

Hey Kim! You're welcome. I am 99% sure it is both water and snow proof. I did hang my module up under an overhang to help with reducing it getting wet.

Can it be mounted on the inside to prevent sun damage, freezing, or theft. Instructions are not clear. Almost demo videos show it on the outside. . .
@ZittleFarms2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't see why it couldn't... But as for sun damage or temperatures I wouldn't see a reason for it. I live in northern VA.

Were you able to mount it directly to the chicken coop? I see Omlet also sells an additional wooden attachment kit. I question whether or not it's really needed or provides any benefit.
@ZittleFarms4 жыл бұрын
Good morning. I was able to attach it directly to the coop with four 3” screws! No kit is needed. You can see the light brown screws (2 at the top and 2 on the bottom) at the 3:25 mark. Thank you for your comment!

Do you think a dog that is roughly 25” tall could get through that door I’m looking for electronic dog door alternatives because they jack up the price for dogs for some reason.

I would use a cardboard box and cut a 12x8 inch hole in it and see if they would go in and out!!

can smart brute predators force it open?

So I tried to do research on how much force it takes to open. Didn't see anything but I went out there, there was no budging the door at all. I don't think you'll have to worry about it. Its a great door, worth it!!

@@ZittleFarms when it's closed would it leave a gap?
@poppythrift223 жыл бұрын
Does it go by a time that you set to open and close at or does it go by dawn and dusk
@ZittleFarms3 жыл бұрын
You can do either. We have it set to be opened from dawn to dusk and we haven't had an issue.
@christinehaslam94803 жыл бұрын
Can you install this door to open up and down vs side to side? And can it be installed upside-down as we dont have enough room on the left side... So ours would have to slide left to right vs right to left like yours does. Thanks
@ZittleFarms3 жыл бұрын
Hey Christine! I have seen the door be flipped around to open in the other direction and that may be the better option. I am not sure you would want to have the door open up and down because the opening would be too narrow for the chickens to walk in and out. I hope that helps!
@vilmacoken7167 Жыл бұрын
I have motion sensor lights around my coup. If something triggers these lights to come on, will they interfere with the opening or closing of the door when it is set to close at dusk and open at dawn?

I have a different use for this door. Could you confirm that you can program the door by the clock to open up at 6:30am and then close only a few minutes later at like 6:35am? I just need an automatic door that opens and closes within a few minutes of each action in the morning.
@ZittleFarms3 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric!! So you can manually put in the time to open and close. I'm not sure of the time frame (5 mins or 15 mins) But it is able to do just want you are looking for!

Have you had any issues with the door closing on and hurting your chickens?
@ZittleFarms3 жыл бұрын
Great question! According to the manual it is not recommended to use with young chicks. We have not had any problems with our adult chickens. It is set to close after dusk so they are up and roosting before it closes anyways. It closes slowly, makes a motor noise and has a safety feature to reopen if there is something blocking it's path. We recommend setting it up a couple of inches so bedding does not in the way of the track.

Do you have any "plumper" chickens that have a difficult time getting through the coop door? The opening seems pretty narrow compared to other brands so that's my only concern.

Hey Tiffany. We don't have any big chickens but with our chickens there is plenty of room to go through. I haven't heard any issues with that.
