Yep, that would work and is simple.

Another great video. Is the flashing recording icon in the sim, a Horus only feature. Does not seem to be present on Radiomaster? Thanks.

Not sure you saw my question above :-)

I think different OpenTX implementations just have different ways to show the recording status, if at all. I’ve just tried this in the sim on a RadioMaster TX16S and it should have a blinking circle when recording. Make sure that your recording interval in the special functions is not set to 0.0 as that won’t record anything. This is what I found for other transmitters, just in case others find it helpful: • FrSky Taranis X9D: Static underlined circle in a black box appears when recording • FrSky Taranis X9 Lite: No indicator • FrSky Taranis Q-X7: No indicator • FrSky XLite: No indicator • FrSky Horus X10/12: Blinking circle when recording • Jumper T12: No indicator • Jumper T16/T18: Blinking circle when recording • RadioMaster TX12: No indicator • RadioMaster TX16S: Blinking circle when recording This was tested using OpenTX 2.3.11.

@@MrD Thanks for the thorough reply. I have the radiomaster TX16S with logging working fine on many models at 1.0s. But no recording icon. I am however using OpenTX 2.3.10. So will check the version history and perhaps do an upgrade. Keep up the good work.

2.3.11 includes "Display log recording symbol on top bar while logging is enabled" :-)

What's the advantages/disadvantages between these methods and just assigning Blackbox in the modes tab to your arm switch so that when you're armed, your FC is recording?
@MrD4 жыл бұрын
The backbox in the modes tab is for the iNav blackbox. Whereas this is for the OpenTX logging. You could also do this simply in OpenTX using the arm switch. But the request was for only recording the OpenTX log when you have telemetry. The advantage of this method over the arm switch method (pure OpenTX logs) is that you know you actually have data to record. Just switching on the logging without telemetry could just be a waste of SD card space. The disadvantage is it uses more logic. Advantage of the OpenTX logs over the iNav balckbox is the data is recorded locally. So of you lose the model, you still have the data, including the GPS coordinates. The advantage of the iNav blackbox over OpenTX logs is that it records more data.

This is a great explanation Mr D and very useful. I'm thinking about models (gliders) which do not have a Flight Controller but do have a Vario. I'm sure that it would be possible to swap the Telemetry Ground Speed for Vertical Speed > X! This would be similar to the Hover Option but on the slope or even bungee or winch launches on the flat field. Does that sound plausible? I do have another question with regards to the logfile size. For instance, does one know how much space say 30min logfile eats up on the SD Card? Cheers.

Hi, I've tried this and can't get it to switch on Logging! So, within Special Functions, I set an SC switch position to just turn on Logging. I can see that the switch has bee activated, but no notification on my main screen! My Tx is a brand new Horus X10 Enterprise. Many thanks.

Just to let you know, I've checked the SD Card and Logs and the action has places a file in there. However, no notification that the logs are recording. I also noticed this in the Companion Simulator. Again, cheers

The logging indicator could be because I was using 2.3.11. The indicator didn’t come up on a TX16S on 2.3.10 either. Yeah, this could be done with a vario. I have something similar for the flight timer on my glider. I’ll have to double check it, but I think its something like when it climbs by x it starts the timer. Then when the altitude doesn’t change for a few seconds it stops the timer. That way if you fly below the launch altitude, it keeps working. The same thing could also be used for the logging.

Do you know if it is possible to log the flight mode that the plane is in?
