@@TMacFPV Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Do you happen to know if TX16S transmitter you use is compatible with RadioMaster R88 2.4GHz 8CH in regard to the widgets and telemetry? Or, is the more expensive Crossfire hardware needed? I'm planning my first drone build, so I have a lot to learn.
@TMacFPV3 жыл бұрын
@@Jack-jl1ui sure thing Jack. Yes, its supported by (compatible with) the TX16S, however, I do not believe its a "full-telemetry receiver." Looks like it may only give you RSSI. Look at product page of RadioMaster R88 receiver. you'll see it uses 8 channel FrSky D8 protocol (the "language" it speaks to the transmitter). Of course, the transmitter needs to speak the same language (FrSky D8). The RadioMaster TX16S uses an internal multi-protocol module. All of the protocols (Languages) supported by the multi-protocol module can be found here: www.multi-module.org/basics/supported-protocols . When you scroll down the page, you'll see FrSkyX and FrSkyX2 . The difference between these two is the version of the firmware on the receiver. It will be one of them. So, in transmitter (as an example) when you bind receiver, choose FrSkyX D8. My question for you though is why would you want to use an 8 channel PWM receiver on a quadcopter? I believe those are normally for aircraft with servos for adjustable flight controls. The RadioMaster R81 receiver might be a better 8 channel choice for you perhaps? I personally would go with a 16 channel ACCST D16 receiver. Something like the FrSky R-XSR at this link www.getfpv.com/frsky-r-xsr-2-4ghz-16ch-accst-micro-receiver-w-s-bus-cppm.html . Pay attention to the note on the product page before purchasing. All FrSky receivers are coming with ACCESS firmware on them which is NOT supported by non-FrSky transmitters. So, if yo end up purchasing an FrSky receiver, to be compatible with the TX16S you'll need to flash the older ACCST firmware to the receiver. Another great-value option for you "in between" ACCST protocol and Crossfire is Express LRS protocol. The module is cheaper than Crossfire and the protocol is better than ACCST. Its fairly new, is "open source" and therefore is always being further developed. More on ELRS can be found here github.com/ExpressLRS/ExpressLRS . See list of supported receivers on that site
@Jack-jl1ui3 жыл бұрын
@@TMacFPV I appreciate your detailed response. I didn't mention that I'm planning a fixed wing drone, so I apologize for the confusion. Do you have a go-to receiver which supports full telemetry? I've been seeing mostly PWM connectors on receivers, so I assume that the white connector plugs into the flight controller, then routes the input to the servos? I see that most wing flight controllers don't have this connector, which must mean an adapter or converter to PWM is needed, correct? It's unclear to me how the function buttons work on the transmitter: eg, return to home, etc... Do these buttons require their own dedicated channel? I'm considering a 6-channel receiver based on this assumption, but I haven't been able to find an answer on the internet so far.
@TMacFPV3 жыл бұрын
@@Jack-jl1ui fixed wing you probably want PWM receiver. Buttons on a transmitter that uses OpenTX firmware ate programmable and you program yourself (none are setup for you). Great question! I believe you can! I have not done this myself as I fly only quadcopters with flight controllers. However, seems to me that as long as you can get GPS telemetry (coordinates) from your aircraft transmitted back to your transmitter (controller), you should be able to use OpenTX telemetry logging without issue. So, I did a quick search for you. Lee (Painless 360) has a lot of experience with fixed wing RC aircraft. Here's a video he's done on getting telemetry back to your transmitter the "old school way" using a Wing and without a flight controller. this should help you a great deal.
