Pretty impressive how clean (no pun intended) they look. No 'soap gunk' or drum noises... Great to see what they look like 'in color' from those old Betty Furness Westinghouse commercials we've all seen here on KZbin....

@davenwin19736 жыл бұрын
That is true on newer washers with the water level set by the government. I had to hack my LG, just so it would use enough waster, close to what this washer uses. I'm glad my washer tub is at a slant, so I could get the water level just below the door level. I don't know if I could do that on the newer Frigidaire, Whirlpool, & Maytag washers, since they're exactly at a 90º, & the door opening is nearly as wide as the drum itself.
@deview12314 жыл бұрын
Those were great machines. My mother had those that she bought brand new in 1955. They were very durable machines. Especially the washer. I could remember her washing small throw rugs in it, and then there were no vibration sensors in it. But it handled any type of load. The washer lasted over 25 years, and the only thing that was wrong, was the gasket between the door and drum went bad and there was no longer a replacement. Glad to see you restored such great machines. lots of luck with them.

I believe ours was a 1953 model in my childhood days. I thought they were cool looking machines. The one thing I don't like about the newer laundry equipment, at least with my GE machine, is that it takes over an hour to wash one load. I also don't like the fact that the newer machines don't seem to have lint filters. In my newer GE, the colored garments come out with all sorts of soap powder residue and lint and that never happened in our trusty old '53 Westinghouse. It didn't even happen in the 1965 Westinghouse we had later.
@uptoolate2793 Жыл бұрын
Hotter softened water ;) will probably fix that.
@georgehewett6243 Жыл бұрын
@@uptoolate2793 Thank you. I admit I use cold water now to try to keep the already too-high power bill down. Maybe I should start adding the Borax powder to the detergent dispenser again. I stopped adding the Borax because it wasn’t mixing well; the water flows through the detergent dispenser as it flows into the tub and the water was causing the Borax to cake instead of mix with the detergent.

I was a little kid back then, but I believe the second dial would be the entire sequence of the cycle--wash, spin, rinse, spin, etc; spread out over the dial that turns every minute or so. A completed cycle would equal pretty close to one full turn of the dial. (We used to have a Westinghouse front loader at home).
