WOW! What a blast from the past!!! My mother had this exact washer - and it's matching dryer. I was obsessed with them as a toddler and would watch them do their thing for hours. Congratulations, Travis! Nice job! You have a new sub. Years later she had a 1968 Jet Cone Rapidry 1000 Frigidaire washer, what a machine!!!

It looks so good! That’s a valuable piece. Now it could be used in a film set in the 50s. Imagine an opening sequence with big band music and a montage of display model machines like this sitting on the sales floor. Comedy drama about an appliance salesman

We didn't have these in Australia but we had one very similar made by Hoover with the wash program cartridge

You did an incredible job on this classic. My ex partner gave me a new model slant front. Control panel on the back with a couple of cycles. I wish I still had it. Lasted until I moved to Vegas in 90. I’ve only had front loaders since, but my Westi was the best. I miss the first spray rinse. Keep up the very good videos 👍👍👍

Nice work! Glad you have one of these. Don't know why this type of design was discontinued. Seemed a nice middle-of-the-road type design that was halfway between front load and top load. Just needed more research and development🤔

WOW what a fantastic job my friend, getting the machine up and running again ,it's so nice to see a labour of love Come back to life ,iv not long finished rebuilding and painting my 1958 BENDIX DIALAMATIC here in the UK , took me nearly 2 years as the clutch system in the gearbox had to be rebuilt ,but anyway never mind me.well done you

I actually have the matching dryer to that washing machine. It works, and it’s neatest feature is when it’s done drying it has a little xylophone in it, and it plays how dry I am. Never seen the matching washer until now.
@johnting6732 жыл бұрын
Wow that's incredible. I agree the built in scale was a neat idea that they should bring back. I think later models had a small dial to turn to adjust water level based on the size of the load of laundry. Also have you seen the live commercial where Betty Furness (the spokeswoman) ran this washer against 3 others? They ran 6 towels with dirt and soap to prove that the westinghouse could outwash any other machine on the market. You should check it out 😊 Once again, what an amazing job you did 👏
Love the machine, I love the sounds they make going through the cycles. Looking forward to the mix master being serviced.

What a wonderful machine. If they made front load washing machines like this, I would possibly buy one. They at least use enough water, and do a great job cleaning laundry.

Correct me if I'm wrong but liquid detergent when used in washing machines (particularly ones in America) will oxidized the metal within the machine. We usually see this nowadays with Samsung washers with eroded spiders. I can't imagine what using liquid detergents will do to a retro machine like this over time, as I don't believe liquid laundry detergents existed back in its day.
@johntaylorjr43449 ай бұрын
The first liquid detergent ever sold in the U.S. was Wisk in 1956.

That washing machine is 70 years old or something like that and I bet it can outlast any top loader or front loader today ? We have a top loader and we’ve had to replace them 3 times since we’ve been in this new house we had a I think LG front loader in our old house before it burnt down when we lived in South Carolina ? I have always been an appliance enthusiast for some reason ever since I was a little girl I took the old top loader my dad and mom had that died and I disassembled it and found out the capacitor went out? And that was it? My mom said oh well we like front loaders better anyways I don’t know all the part names in any washing machine just basic stuff like control panel drum agitator but the inside of the machine I really don’t know lol wires easy ? lid/door switch ? I never knew how to bypass them? I don’t know anything about dryers just how to work them to do laundry. Like a lot of people know how to do.

Travis where did you get the door boot from ? Looking for a Westinghouse space mate boot … we have them here in the UK badged inter the name ENGLISH Electric and it looks just like the old Boot you took off your machine !!
@theetravisb2 жыл бұрын
The original style 1953 boots aren’t available. The gray boot I got is from a later 50s machine that I had to modify to fit
@darrenclawson19842 жыл бұрын
Was the later boot available on the internet ? Is it appropriate to share where you got it from ?
