Hey Ben, excellent work with the Raspberry Pi. I have just downsized and have three Bose Units that are around 20 years old and some a bit newer. I would like to connect them like you have to modern televisions (no proper outlets to the older Bose units) and connect to Google Nest. I particularly like the auto-mute function when the phone rings. Can this be applied to two phones at once so if my phone or my wife's phone rings the same auto-mute applies? Great project! I have a Lifestyle 18, Lifestyle® 28 DVD home entertainment system, and then a Lifestyle® 48 DVD home entertainment system. The sound out of all of them is too good to throw them out and replace. Any heads up on sites to assist would be amazing. Thanks in advance, John

I think I need one aspect of this. I need a way to connect HDMI or digital sound from a modern TV to an old Bose system with 5.1 surround. Bose system has surround sound, via proprietary 8 pin mini din input. Which goes into a subwoofer, which is connected to the 5.1 speakers setup also with an 8 pin into the wall. I can't find an adapter or anything like this. So probably my best bet is to solder an 8 pin mini din (AKA serial port) connector to a raspberry pi, and write some code to take an HDMI input and output or to the 8 pin mind din. I just don't know how to learn about these audio formats quickly to learn what I need to write the code. Or if there is some kind of adapter out there, I could buy that lol but I couldn't find one

Can't you just use Optical?
@funstuffonthenet55732 жыл бұрын
@@pkoya341 you are correct. It has an orange digital port which can vary 5.1. it doesn't use an optical cable but you can convert between those two with adapters

@@bendavey9843 Thank you Ben!! I have tried, and failed, with a usb to RS232 adapter. I have a usb to RS422 adapter on order, I hope this makes the difference.

Ben, could you post info about the rs422 adapter you used? I'm still having issues with the rs422 to usb connection. Thank you.

@@davewasowicz2522 sure. Will check in a few days once I get home. I’ll take a picture of it and post it somewhere

@@bendavey9843 Maybe some more context Ben... Good News: I was able to get my current adapter working. Bad News: All it does is turn the unit on and off (ie, no matter what command you use, vol up, etc, it shuts unit off or turns it back on). I am using your code, so not sure what is going on. I will add that my unit is a Lifestyle 20 and not a Lifestyle 25. I know that you refer to both units in this thread. ANY help would be much appreciated as I now have "OCD" in trying to get this to work!!! 🙂

Would this work on a Bose Lifestyle 28?
@bendavey98434 жыл бұрын
Probably not. I think the 28 is a lot newer than the 25 and probably has a completely different set of internals
