From having worked on building sites, this smacks of an inside job. We once had an expensive generator nicked and the tracker had been chucked out just like this, not far from the site. One of the regular lads said he’d walked in on two of the extra hired help rummaging around under the generator panels a few days before and he thought it was odd. Turned out they were rummaging around for the tracker so they knew where it was in advance of nicking the generator. We actually got it back because one of them was stupid enough to put it in his garage though 😂

I had an idea about these kind of localization jobs: How about outfitting a drone with this technology? I guess it may be a bit on the heavy side as it is, but with some tweaking of the electronics and the antenna, it could be possible to do such a thing. The signal and directions could easily be sent to your smartphone, as well as a gps location.
@kevinansell93415 жыл бұрын
They use Drones when they can't get access to an area for recon, Very professional outfit these Guys.. That would be a good next step in the Tools used for recovery of stolengoods.
@gudfarfar5 жыл бұрын
@@kevinansell9341 I am sure the large losses from theft every year would make those investments quite okay, and if the response time gets a lot shorter, before a drone is on site, some thiefs may think twice about taking off with the item. If the recovery company was spread out a bit more, and had such drones ready for flight in most locations, they could get to stolen items a lot faster. When the drones gets faster and have a much better battery time, maybe a drone could be launched from the office, make their own way to the reported site, to videotape any activity, while the company car and police was called to intercept the theft.
@man_eating_monkey5 жыл бұрын

@@man_eating_monkey My intention was that they would have a full array of tech. goodies. A very slick theft. they knew how to outsmart the tracker and where to look for it. I would suggest the customer watch his casual employees better and see if one suddenly shows explainable purchases ,such as a better car,or fancy work clothes etc. Anton Koen in South Africa has shown that the thieves there actually have jamming devices they fit to cars in case there is a tracker , and he has shown photos of car thieves carrying military issue jamming equipment taken with infrared cameras . Hi team, Can you please explain why the unit wasn't sending a GPS signal? I understand you shouldn't need cell signal to get a GPS ping. I'm guessing the unit only send GPS when it goes into alarm, and you can't force it because there's no cell signal. In that case, why didn't the unit alarm? Cheers
@powernumpty5 жыл бұрын
(Assuming here) GPS is the location data, receive only, the unit needs to get to a mobile network to alert base. To transmit back to a satellite the unit would need a much higher gain antenna and be less flexible in it's placement, easier to spot, not to mention shorter battery life. The backup RF method can be powered by a small battery for a long time.
@AutomatricsMtrack5 жыл бұрын
In this case we needed a cell connection to transmit the GPS data. GPS receivers work fine without Cell towers but that GPS data cannot be sent anywhere until it gets a cell connection. In this area there was no cell connection for about 5 miles crazy we know but there are still so many dead zones around. Thanks for your comment

First find the tracking GPS unit and then put it on a shipping container to someplace like Africa or Hong Kong. Then take the equipment home for your use of it without worrying about it being found. Also get all the numbers off the equipment and repaint the thing.

So if the tracker go into alarm every time it senses movement, it must check in via cellular connection to make sure it hasn’t been put into alarm to turn off the RF beacon, if no cellular connection is made it just stays in alarm?

What some car dealers do here in the states is they install a box somewhere in the car that says GPS tracker on it. It looks like like a tracker and has wires running all over to no where. It's usually mounted in view, under the hood and is orange. The thieves think they have found the tracker, so they disable or remove it and go on their way. The real GPS is hiden a little better. The GPS company just factors the fake unit and another hour into their price.

If it was checked for fingerprints by the Police then may be able to identify the thief?

When its been on a building site with loads of people touching it and the hire company staff. Waste of time. Its probably a inside job anyway.
