The M2 is a very special M series car, built in low volumes, it's light weight and extremely nippy !
Never before have we heard of a stolen BMW M2 being successfully recovered. These specialist high performance cars are stolen to order by professional organised criminals.
On the 16 May 2018 Bandits captured the customer keycode whilst he was sleeping and then simply drove off. The standard fit BMW tracker had been removed in minutes as a police officer delivered it back to the owner along with other vehicle contents. This gear was found close to the theft location on the side of the road.
With no GPS signals to track Automatrics attempt to successfully track down the car down using GSM and RF location techniques.
An Automatrics radio signal finder is deployed from Southampton to Solihull Birmingham to meet up with four police pursuit vehicles.
Watch to find if the Automatrics MTrack GPS, GSM and RF theft recovery tracking system and four armed police response units can fight back against organised crime.

If the manufacturer wants to put a sophisticated alarm system in the car, there needs to be a guide book for the authorised service centre so they know how to repair it. No matter how complicated, it will be described here. Needless to say, these guides do disappear sometimes ...

If you have a keyless car, I would highly recommend using a faraday bag to block the signal given from the key. This then prevents the relay method of theft. Additionally, it’s best to use physical methods such as a steering lock or a wheel lock. These methods will prevent a thief, but if someone strongly wants your car; they’ll go through extreme lengths to have it.

@AutomatricsMtrack 6 жыл бұрын
Professional criminals we don't believe joyride, more they are paid to do a covert job. The customer wanted to avoid 5 years damage on his insurance profile and the DVLA depreciation caused by stolen status. The plan was for BMW to rebuild the car for him as good as new as all the parts were recovered at this site. We were even going to film the presentation of the car at the end of the video. But the recovery company lost some parts, a real travesty, and stress overload for the owner, who in the end decided to claim on his insurance. However, the claim loss value was significantly reduced by the proceeds from selling recovered parts. The more you can reduce a theft claim on your insurance the less resulting damage penalty you will receive in the future.

Back in the mid 1980's, I had a friend who had a Sierra Cosworth stolen - despite having an expensive alarm system installed. He got the car back, but didn't rely on the alarm - he installed a hidden fuel cut-off switch in it. Quite soon after, he got up one morning and found his car gone again - but this time, he found it abandoned just down the road. His cheap little cut-off switch did its job.

They called the cops and they replied: emmmm call the insurance company and claim travel insurance....

Yeah, the tracker guys should just put a brick through the window ("It was like that when I got here officer") and once verified the police should set up surveillance. The prime concern of the police should be catching the criminals, but they just don't seem to care. It's no good recovering the vehicles if the criminals aren't caught, because they will just keep on thieving. The criminals are watching the police circus and laughing their heads off. Anyway, Automatrics sure are doing a great job tracking the stolen cars down and doing most of the police's work for them.

This is outrageous and shouldn't be the case, since it's not your fault. I'm glad that it works different here in Germany. If your car gets stolen, your insurance will pay the value of the car and it won't go up if you make a claim. Also you get new car price compensation for up to two years. So even your car has 20k miles on it and it's 1,5 years old, you still get the sticker price back from your insurance.

Well done guys! If it wasn’t for your tracker would they have got away with it! Scary to think it’s that easy for them! Was the BMW tracker in the boot?
@AutomatricsMtrack
@AutomatricsMtrack 6 жыл бұрын
We certainly helped West Midlands police with an important part in their puzzle. The fact the BMW standard tracker was found and presented to the owner raises questions. Like why would any car manufacturer source just one supplier for covert theft recovery security technology, when the partnering process itself deems the system to be known, and thus, to no longer be covert. For this reason alone, we would always recommend to avoid standard fit OEM trackers completely.

Let's just say you will have more chances. It's not just another system, do your homework, self fit battery units are going to be more covert as they offer more places to hide. Also consider units that can locate with or without GPS signals, indoors or outdoors as they will offer best performance. The Automatrics 24/7 fully managed service provides all that's needed for professional theft finding and recovery. Our products also have Thatcham and CPI Secured By Design police preferred specification for all those that need it. :)

It is a bit of a silly comment - if you were BMW would you love it that your cars are easily stolen (because you think people will just come back and buy more) ? Or do you think making cars easily stolen will deter people from wanting to own one ? Think about it. (though I do think you should keep coming up with good ideas for prevention).

Don't have a garage with cameras? Security guard? Security of any kind aside from GPS? Don't have proper insurance? But you do have money to waste on a car such as M2? Well, good luck. Easy come, easy go. If YOU are not going to protect YOUR stuff properly, then either pay someone else to do it for you, or don't be surprised if it gets stolen. Certainly there is only one person to blame when that happens - YOU!

Excellent tracking unit you have. About time the manufacturers of these very costly vehicles upped there game. Since the key less stop and go, vehicles are an easy target. Trouble is its the poor driver, and also the rest of us who suffer with higher premiums. The courts should bang these scum up for 15 years and make them do it.

Yep, that tallies with what I was told by an alarm installer (based in the Midlands). Thatcham Cat 5 trackers are theoretically capable of stopping the engine, but the police won't remote disable the engine while the vehicle's in motion as it could cause an accident. The capability has been used a handful of times if that, seems they prefer to track the vehicle once it's parked up.

U.K rapescene. I don't know how accurate the trackers are but if the police did use an engine cut off tracker then surely if they caught the thieves still in transit then they could tell when the vehicle had stopped at traffic lights and then switched it off, nothing dangerous about that if they could do it.
