Great video but did I miss the most common problem.."Extended Cranking "!! I haven't figured it out yet 3 fuel pumps later...yes avoid the 2007.. the oil consumption in mine actually stopped after replacing the newly designed valve cover..I also did a lifter replacement but that was almost 10yrs and really no issues except the extended cranking. I just forgot about fixing it..Great for snow

@@antonioreynolds2850 each time turn key to ' run ' but not start and wait 2-3 seconds , allowing the pump to pressurize the fuel lines 2) have fuel pressure tested to make sure it is at the proper psi 3) worn spark plugs/plug wires can take longer to fire up 4) don't let gas tank fuel level go under 1/2 -3/8 full , gas keeps the pump cool so it will last longer ,. running 1/4 full tank can expose the fuel pump to not be submerged in the gasoline which will cause pump to run hotter and shorten the life of the pump,

@joelcrow 3 жыл бұрын
@@hughseagraves7036 totally agree...if you don't require the status symbol of having the latest thing (and the $1200 per month payment), then these 08-14 models are still gorgeous and the LTZ/Denali trim comes with all the fancy features (cooled seats, sunroof, navi, wood trim) that would cost you DOUBLE the price on the newest version. I mean $30k on a used car is still a lot of money, but the nice thing about getting older is these cars still look incredible to those of us who were around when they first came out! 🤣

Should I trade my 2013 Prius C and 2002 4runner for one? They both run perfect and I love them, but I've always wanted a Suburban.
@joelcrow
@joelcrow 3 жыл бұрын
@@jerryp2433 sounds like you've a utility vehicle and a commuter (smart!!). I'd add that those early 2000s 4 runners are like the Tacomas, full cult following, last forever and tons of demand to own one (demand = higher return selling it). Considering those points, I'd suggest selling the 4runner private party and then using that cash to buy a suburban. That way you keep your economy commuter (to offset the fuel you're gonna buy for the big girl) and also so you have a new utility vehicle, this one that will carry a dozen people, or basically be a truck that the bed contents are all kept inside...you can load up your next roadtrip with bicycles, kayaks, luggage and even a canoe inside of the suburban AND tow a boat! So keep the prius is my suggestion.😉

Bought an 08 with the 5.3L about 6-8 months ago. Had 120k miles. Did the valve cover replacement/update. Also the engine hasn't shown any issues with the AFM so I purchased the Range AFM disabler that plugs into the obd2 port. It tells the engine to always run on all 8 cylinders to help avoid the problems associated with the AFM system.

I've got a 2012 Tahoe LTZ and have had the dash crack, blend door actuator fail, engine mount break (fixed that permanently - check out Atomic F&P for a poly mount) and use a Range AFM disabler since 96K. No oil consumption issues, I run high mileage full synthetic and I'm about to hit 160K. Aside from those fairly minor issues that I fixed all on my own, it has been a very reliable vehicle. I've had multiple offers from individuals and dealers to buy it (some are a little tough to turn down) but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. Love my Tahoe. I'll keep it until it costs more to fix than it's worth. It's worth mentioning the engine mount breaking issue and that the AC condenser will fail around 150K, which is pretty typical for basically every car out there. Still, nothing major.

08 Suburban LTZ and 2010 Tahoe. Tahoe complete trans failure at 115,000 miles. Replaced and upgraded for 6500$. Suburban has had 16 standard lifters, new camshaft, oil pump and timing change installed during active fuel management delete. Sent Board off to be reprogrammed. Suburban runs strong. Had to replace drivers side engine mounts on both. Exhaust manifold bolt heads snap off. Especially drivers side rear bolt. Replaced drive shafts on both due to rust and out of balance producing violent shaking at 79 mph. Also included is shocks/struts, brake system overhaul and heavy maintenance. You either keep them or sell them, move on or never give up. You have to be committed to these.

Trying to help and not pick apart your content. With that said, it is portrayed that the flex fuel has to do with the active fuel management system. Flex fuel system stands for the types of fuel you can run such as pure ethanol, or any mix. The Active Fuel Management is the deactivation of 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders, changing constantly as demand is needed. Great concept that really does work, that is if you have all new components. The time goes on and the materials used are not tough enough to take the abuse of going and stopping repeatedly. 8 lifters have springs that will go bad. 8 lifters are standard lifters. The spring lifters will go bad. Many poor materials were used in these trucks, from the interior/exterior to the drive train. They can be resolved you just need the desire and money to do so.

My 07 Tahoe 5.3L 4wd is awesome hardly any issues and at 180,000 miles now. 4wd light came on 1 year figured out it was just the brain under the dash $60 fix. Surprised you didn't bring up the common but sometimes unheard "whistle" while driving. Don't know if there is a fix but my ears hear it with the window cracked on the freeway. My old 99 Tahoe was just as reliable

My 09 Tahoe has intermittent loss of communication between engine and transmission which causes it to go into limp mode. I get 5 or 6 U codes. Has to be loose connection I guess. Will be fine for weeks then act up 10 times on a weekend. Very frustrating going down the highway and all of sudden downshifts and gets stuck there. Repair shops can’t find problem

I have the 09 Suburban 5.3, had to do a full engine replacement after wifey drove it with no oil for day and left bank went out. Was having oil pressure sensor issues for a while, even after replacing it once, there was a bad screen filter before it, it would sound off all the time and we began to ignore it some until it was actually out of oil and wasnt lying about it... 6500 for new crate motor + install. Both Front wheel hub assembly's (4wd) went out with in the same year. 170k miles on car, super cracked dash, heat on left side stopped working not too long ago. Also had to do an entire ECU "relearn" 2 years ago. Other than that, been a great truck lol

From what ive heard watching scotty kilmer the ac stops blowing cold and to fix it you gotta take the whole dash apart to fix it and that takes really long, the entire fix takes like 14 hours according to scotty, the older tahoes had a much better design, no ac issues and you dont have to take the dash apart to fix the ac which wont even break, oh yeah my dad replaced an entire dash at home, didnt take him that long and it was a simple job, the column shifter got in the way a couple times but thats it
