Automotive CG | Breakdown/Process (Houdini, C4D)

Here is the breakdown of a recent project I made for the 'Automotive CG Challenge'.

The intro particles and fluids were made in Houdini, the car animations and layout in Cinema 4D. Rendered with Redshift.

Thank you Olivier! Yes, all the particles are Houdini POPs. at 0:08 quite fast, but it shows the layers. They are particles sticking and moving along the surface of the car with different variations. I was thinking to break them down in a single video, maybe a quick tutorial.

LOOKS AMAZING ! i'm interested on where the particles emitted from, (whole car) is it from the car's body ? or you emit from an object infront of the car ? (the Tire) is it from the wheel ? The whole wheel ? or only a plane parented and directly under the wheel ? thanks ! amazing job !

Thanks for your comment! The rain/droplets particles are on the ground, and they fly up because of the collision and velocity from the wheels. The particles floating on the car surface in the animation intro are emitted from other objects in front of the car, and they stay on the surface of the car as they reach it. For example, a sphere in from the car, and as the particles reach the car they stick to it and follow the surface. Planning to record a tutorial on both particles systems soon, as time allows, thanks!

Thanks! It's the Volume, the lights are effected by the volume.

Thanks! The city is from SketchFab, it's called "NIGHT CITY JAPAN". Other street assets were from SketchFab as well, all of them must be still available for free.

looks siiiiiick ! wow is it possible to do that rain / water effects in c4d without using Houdini ? im kinda panic from Houdini it look a bit complicated and im used to user-friendly software's like c4d

Thank you Adam, I believe it will be possible with the standard C4D Particle system, but for sure you can do that with X-Particles. Houdini is user friendly too once you get going ;)

@@FX_MesropHovhannisyan , awesome thank you , X-Particles is very expensive for me so i guess Houdini is the way to go your render quality by the way is a cinematic level , how much it take it to render it ? i assume with thousands of samples and a beast graphic card x) because whatever i render with redshift or octane i can't get to that level of quality yet ill be soo thankful if you do a mini tutorial on your channel on the settings you use for your render im a sub now :)

@@DoctorMGL Actually I have a quite old laptop with a GTX 960M, so my final renders I do on cloud rendering services. I guess it was 15-20 minutes a frame on my laptop. Yes, Houdini is more cost-effective and effective overall in long run. A great investment to make, both for your money to buy and the time to learn it.

At some level yes. For debris and smoke I think Cinema will handle just fine!

Where did you do the final redshift rendering, Cinema 4D or Houdini?

Final renders was in Cinema4D. Back then I wasn't comfortable with the animation/rendering workflow in Houdini. If I would have done it today, most likely I would do fully in Houdini.
