I'm a retired medical examiner and Forensic Pathologist. I completely understood the findings. It's always very difficult to find a cause of death on skeletons found in the elements. Toxicology is one huge thing that couldn't be factored in. If I had to gather a guess, I would side with the coroner that this was a natural death due to exposure of the elements. Animal activity really can hinder a cause of death. Thank you Scott. I'm glad he has been brought home to rest peacefully and eternally. 🕊️🙏❤️

Since his phone signal was still working for a couple of days, this could mean a fall? I didn't see mention of ripped clothing so I assume it's not an animal attack. That would be more obvious, I'm sure. By exposure, does that mean frozen to death?

@@DearlyDepartedTours , getting a phone signal and following it and tracing it is an excellent beginning for us to pick up an area where we should look. Sadly, batteries die. Timing really is precious. If I typed animal attack, I meant animal activity. They can scatter remains after death. Sadly, weather and the elements play an integral part. If he accidentally slid and twisted his ankle, it could have been Hypothermia. One can literally freeze in an hour. I hope I helped. I'm on month 6 of bedrest. I'm also medicated. And bored to death. 😉

My beloved husband died in a mountain climbing accident - he went alone, too. I couldn't stop him. He just loved to climb. You can't hold a man back. Julian Sands was one of the handsomest men in film. So sad he is no longer with us.When I heard about this I was devastated. I was a fan. My condolences to his wife and family. It was a horrible shock for me to lose my husband. The grief is still with me. Waiting for the search party to find him was very traumatic. At least they found him the day after he went out.

Maybe we should learn something from those losses -- to not take ANYTHING for granted -- people - animals-- a clean/safe environment -- TIME -- We only get a very small amount of time -- so learn from & enjoy this thing we call 'life' while you can. This one hurt a bit. Throughout my middle school and early high school years, my mom and I would rent two videos every weekend: something we hadn't seen before and one of the following: either Rocky Horror, Army of Darkness, Death Machine (the Brad Dourif movie), or Warlock. We watched Warlock a dozen or more times, and my mom loved the British period romances and dramas that Julian had been in. She was just gaga about the guy as an actor, and we were always delighted to see him show up in something, even smaller roles like in Vibes and Arachnophobia. We lost mom in 2021 to cancer, and if there's anything I'm even vaguely glad about in all of this, it's that she didn't live to see him go this way. The uncertainty as to the cause of death would've eaten her up. I hope it was peaceful or swift, and at least he was engaged in something recreational that he loved doing. You'll be missed, Mr. Sands.

Never go hiking without a companion. If you want to increase your chances of survival even more, a personal locator beacon. Thanks for this Scott. I’m a fan of Julian and heard he had died and no idea he went missing on a hike. Im a hiker but I can never find anyone to go with me and I’ll admit it is dangerous. I almost got “lost” on a hike myself because I didn’t drink enough water and I got dehydrated. My body just kind of shut down and I couldn’t move my legs. It was a horrifying experience. And I was in the middle of nowhere. Luckily I was able to muster enough strength to make myself move and I stumbled into the back of a car towing company right as an employee was driving by. It was 4:44 pm and they closed at 5:00. I don’t think the man understood if he hadn’t driven back there at that time they would have found a body there the next day. My body literally couldn’t move anymore. They gave me a fresh unopened bottle of water and it was the best tasting thing I’ve ever had in my life. He eventually drove me to my car and I got myself home by the grace of God 🙏🏼. But that scared the living hell out of me. Even experienced hikers think that nothing will happen to them and they’ll be ok but it can happen to anyone. Your literally walking your way to your own demise. Always bring extra water if your hiking and try not to go alone if you can help it.

@@jazstar4622 To be fair I hike on relatively flat land, sometimes hills and always when the weather is warm but not too warm…I’m not a mountain climber like Julian. I read more of this another video, and what I didn’t realize was that he wasn’t just hiking 🥾, he was climbing Mount Baldy in the middle of winter. With all due respect to Mr. Sands, I would never do that especially alone. What’s creepy is a month before he went on that exposition. He did an interview talking about how eerie it is hiking (climbing) on that terrain because “you never know if you’re going to discover remains of a dead body”…. So looking at this in retrospect, he went alone, but he also went in the middle of winter and in this video, it makes it sound like he was just walking along and got lost, but now he would’ve had to fall into one of two very deep canyons. That explains the blunt force trauma. I try not to take too many risks, but I enjoy hiking. I’m angry that I can’t find people who care enough to go with me. But that is one very important lesson that I learned was to always carry extra water. I had water that day. It just wasn’t enough. Everybody makes mistakes. 🙏🏼❤️

@chrisgullett4332
@chrisgullett4332 Жыл бұрын
@@LP-jn4twNo it wouldn't have. Searchers do not put themselves in danger to look for missing people. They would not have searched till the conditions were safe. A good example of this is Brian Laundrie, because the reason it took them so long to find him is because part of the park he was found in was deemed dangerous because of flooding the day after he left. The are day the government said the area was no longer a danger, they found him that same day. You're naive if you think just because you alert someone you're in danger that they will just walk into danger to find you. Several people die hiking mountains in dangerous weather every year, and they usually refuse to look for them till seasons change and it becomes safe to look for them. Think about it, they will literally cancel school, government offices etc over a little snow, so do you really think they are gonna just go look for somebody in dangerous weather? The answer is no. If somebody was with him, then there would be two dead.

There is ice on the trails, very slick, in Ca. it snows then gets hot and the snow melts and then freezes over night, my first time I heard of this a very experienced climber who gots some ice equipment and went up for a short hike, he slid off that mountain and died. Mt Baldy has steep canyons around it. The back side of Baldy is very very steep, and just drops down thousands of feet into Devore Canyon behind it. Expert skiers say the OUT-OF-BOUNDS backside has some of the best most challenging chutes around (when it has enough snow). Lots of people try them and get hurt or lost.
@dmbeaster
@dmbeaster 7 ай бұрын
The mountain is steep and a little over 10,000 feet. The upper part of the mountain is permanent snow and ice in winter. It goes through repeated melting and freezing cycles, so tends to be very crusty and slick. You must use crampons and carry an ice ax and know self arrest. People go up without proper gear in winter because there is little experience for such conditions for even experienced SoCal hikers. They slip, and turn into human toboggans. Blunt force trauma from trees or rocks does the rest. Despite Sands' experience, he was poorly equipped for the conditions. He probably fell, slid, and injured himself badly enough that he was immobilized (or worse, but where they found him, he probably survived initially). He was in an area where no one hikes in winter, so zero chance that someone would see him. There are a lot of people on the mountain in winter, and a shelter up high for refuge. But weather conditions were horrible preventing any search.

I wonder if the right maxillary fracture might be indicative of a slip or a fall. If he had a head injury in the freezing cold, perhaps wandered off the trail, became disoriented, I could see how even an experienced hiker might go missing when things occur as a perfect storm. Also I watched a video about Julian Sands a month or so ago by a hiking enthusiast, and several experienced hikers noted that with the pronounced winter weather conditions and the challenge Mr. Sands was rumored to be placing himself to (a personal speed record in winter conditions for this peak), the choice of the red strap-on ice cleats/micro spikes was not a wise one. Most people said crampons would have made much more sense in such cold and severe weather. They also noted crampons are much heavier, so they might have ended up deterring Mr. Sands from his personal speed goal. In any case, I hope he rests in peace and that he passed unafraid and without pain in a place he loved. RIP Julian Sands.

Many question why no clothing was on him and so scattered, as animal activity would not have removed clothing so completely. He probably removed his own clothing in the final stages of hypothermia, that occurs shortly before death, a person can feel very hot. In most cases the person feels warm, is lulled to sleep and then dies but in cases where a person has fought sleep knowing its danger they have been seen to start feeling so hot they want to shed clothing and often do so. Back when i was active in S&R on two occassions our team had located people suffering from extreme hypothermia, who were roused as we were trying to get there body temperature up who actually became combatant as they were complaining of feeling as if they were buring up and wanted clothing, blankets, hot pack and so on striped off so they could cool down. I can assume being experienced as a hiker, was holding out for rescue and may have fought going to sleep, possibly walking about to stay awake until the point where movement was not generating enough core temp to keep the final stages of hypothermia from setting in and as he walked about he kept shedding clothing as he felt hotter and hotter. This woukd explain why clothing was found in various different places.

Wow! High watermark level of research for YT channels. Thank you, Scott & Dearly Departed. Julian Sands was an intriguing persona, for his filmwork that was distributed mainstream, but for other works that weren’t, for whatever reasons, as well. A lot of changes in film media went on anyway, from the old theater days of Room With a View & Warlock! An always-memorable delivery by Mr. Sands, though, in nearly anything I saw with his many, varied roles. In listening to the report, I wonder how “most of the clothing ended-up in the shrubbery?” Is that common? It sounds too precise for a frozen body, even with animals. But I guess “over 100 feet” of space also means all sizes of animal. I would review these vlogs normally, just to get clear, but this premature death saddens me-one less independently-minded person & all. An unusual series of potentially-dangerous circumstances, too, & alone. I, too, will miss Julian Sands’ character work, turning-up as it often did, unexpectedly. He had many gifts other screen people never had, never do get, & he was apparently well able to live as he wished, where he chose to live. Very thoughtful and very tasteful updating, despite the events. RIP, to Julian Sands. ☮️🕯💐🪷🌿 I hope his family are comforted, supported, & encouraged by the well-wishes & shared thoughts from his public audiences, as well. 🍁🌼🌸🍁🌼🌻☮️🕯🍁🍂🍁🕯

I was a great fan of Julian Sands work and always thought he would be a great guy to sit and chat with. Or...perhaps hike a mountain with. He had a voice that you could just sit and listen to him read a newspaper and really enjoy it. I have many of his movies on dvd and re-watch them regularly. Warlock and Steven Kings Rose Red are my favorites. As sad as it is to know he is gone. I take comfort in the fact that he died doing what he loved most, in the place he cherished. And hopefully he passed peacefully. Any pain that he possibly felt in the end, washed away by the cold crisp mountain air on his face, the smell of pine trees and the sound of wind blowing over the mountains. His spirit is now somewhere on another adventure. In another reality that we will all get to visit...someday.. as well. In these troubled times, embrace that certainty. Hold it close to your heart. And live "Each Day" as if it is your last.

The problem with having a hiking partner is that the older you get the harder is is to arrange time-wise. I'm in my 50's and hike alone all the time. If I had to wait until I could arrange with a partner I'd only get out there once or twice a year. So I save the back country hikes for when I do have a partner and stick to the well traveled hikes when I'm alone.

Been to Mt. Baldy a thousand times. In the best of times Mt. Baldy is rugged, steep and dangerous. In the summer I took my kids to Mt. Baldy above Mt. Baldy Village to the ski lift. You can ride up to the ski lodge and the views of Los Angeles are 2nd to None, it's an elevation of 10,000'. It was 42° in the parking lot and we got to the top, a 15 minute ride, it was 7° when we got to the top. I spent a fortune on gloves, beanie hats and gloves. I Love Lucy or The Lucille Ball Show had an episode of the 4 of them visiting Los Angeles and went skiing over the weekend to Mt. Baldy Ski Resort.
