I did that test on the camshaft position sensor. When I put the pins in I got a reading of less than one and the weird thing is, when I tapped the sensor with a wrench, the reading would go up to 4.65 . It's a Chevrolet Malibu 2015, 2.5. I get a code P0016 on it.

Hello just seen this video my check engine light came on with code p0011 for a 200 Jetta 2.5 it said intake camshaft sensor I did what you explained and when I put the socket extension it did not change what does that mean

Thanks for your help. I tested the crank position sensor on my daughter’s car with the help of this video. It ended up being faulty. Swapped it out. It cranked right over.

Signal wires run to the ecu, ecu wires always have the stripe. Hope that helps someone.

I just wanted to stop by for a sec and say thanks. Your videos have been a huge aid in diagnosing my Chevy Cruze. I think I'm looking at changing the VVT camshaft gears in my 1.8L. But I wanna check all my sensors and stuff before I dig into the internal timing components. Your videos are easy to understand and provide great info!! Thank you!!

You guys (ha) are the first channel I have come across who has shown a live test... My FSM had me testing every circuit and connector in the freaking car just to find out what one five minute test would tell me. You guys are awesome, thanks!

An excellent video, I watch 4 other vidoes before this one. In my opinion the easiest to understand, straight to the method of how to test the camshaft sensor, what it does and what to measure.

I would always connect your black lead to a ground that is preferably not on the connector (until you know which wire is which). It would suck if you sent 12 volts somewhere it shouldn’t go.

I have a 2017 Elantra and have recently found your videos. You guys are absolutely the best on explaining everything clearly and also explaining the why. Your camera work is also excellent. I replaced my crankshaft sensor and the Camshaft sensor is next. I don't think I could've done it as easily if it was someone else's videos. I have a 1.3 parasitic draw x 3 years I can't find except I found it's coming from positive battery fuse which could be anything. Do you have a video that can help me find it? You guys are the best!!! ❤❤❤

I'd like some more info on why the metal object takes the voltage away? I mean, they sit next to or on an engine block so why does it zero out?

best vid on testing the sensor, but my Chev Colorado 2011 uses a connector which does not provide access while sensor is connected. So sadly no way to verify the reading drop...

Hey bud thanks for the video, it is very useful and informative! I tried to test my sensor yesterday. It shows 5.07v, when I use the metal for testing the tip of the sensor it shows 0.28, is it normal? Please advise with many thanks

I have a P340 engine code for camshaft position sensor low voltage. I replaced the sensor but made no difference. Looks like the issue with the signal wire from the ECU. I hope this video will help me diagnose my 03 Civic issue. The problem I am having are engine stalling mostly at highway speed but also at low speed and coasting and sometimes when the engine is hot and also when park an inclined surface. I replaced the fuel pump, but the issue still presist.

Hello, thx for the vid. Do you have a link to your other channel about electtrical car repairs? And is it the same procedure for the crankshaftposition sensor? I have a daihatsu Sirion with a 2-wire crankshaft position sensor. And can i test the 2 wire crankshaftsensor harness, maybe with a continuity test?. Regards

Hey thanks for the video I got a lot of information out of it but I was wondering if this would work for a Lamborghini I have two of them. I have an 88.5 Countach special edition and an 05 special edition Gallardo. So I needed to do a tune-up on the Gallardo and when I was changing my spark plugs I was pulling up on the coil pack harnesses and pulled a little too hard and the plastic around the camshaft sensor pigtail connector completely disintegrated but the wires are still there and just hanging so I don't know what pin position they go into the new pigtail connector so I was wondering if this method of checking to see which wires are pulse and constant and ground would be the same procedure. Well hopefully you'll read this and great video I subscribed you have a fan

Wow, thanks for sharing this also is it true that if you have a crank no start engine and your RPM gauge doesn't work. Does that mean you're CPS sensor is bad? I just put a new CPS sensor in my VR6 engine and I have a crank no start and the RPM gauge doesn't work either. Should I buy a new sensor because this one is broken that's new?

I make the same test with a new camshaft. And when i conect the camshat it goes from 4.8 to 0.02 volts... is the camshaft bad? Because is "New"... thanks for the help..

when I do the test you describe, I pass the metal in front of the sensor but the 5.0volts doesn't drop to zero, it doesn't change at all?

I don't have 12 v going into my cam position sensor only 1v But I do have 5v on signal wire. Why would that be? Does the v come straight from the battery or from the computer. I have a MK4 Ford Mondeo turbo diesel.

I tested my camshaft and crankshaft positioning sensors. They seem good. I'm getting no signal from the ignition coil signal wire. I get wire continuity from camshaft to ECM. I have a 95 Maxima. Do you know how much voltage I should get from the camshaft sensor? I put my voltmeter on mV and still get nothing from the ignition coil sig. wire.

Dude I've got some weird stuff going on. I have 4 cam actuators solenoids, 3 of them are delivering 12 volts The other one has no voltage. Any info much appreciated

Auto Repair Guys The intake camshaft sensor Yellow and Black wire give off 0 ohms intermittently when ignition is on. The exhaust camshaft sensor doesn’t do that when I resistance check it.

Will the car run with a used ECU from Ebay motors without being programmed by HYUNDAI. We only have 7 volts on the battery wire. Battery is at 12 volts. 2015 Elantra GL

Does this work for all camshaft sensors? I got Volvo V70 2008, problem hard start after night and both sensors does not change voltage when i touch metal bar to it, stays at 5v( battery and signal are both 5v)one of them is new.

Driving x trail t30 currently i am guessing this sensor is gone its 18 years old camshaft sensor had crankshaft sensor replacemen like 7 years ago but what happens now is my car has insanely rough idle big cranks when cold but when hold it cranks long and cant keep rpms until i rev it .... randomly dies while revving and driving my engine completely shuts off and after that crank takes like 10 times for 5-10 sec till it starts am i right to guess this is the issue ? PCV Valve was stuck cleaned ... New Spark Plugs Headgasket checked no leak New My coils are absolutely noew had to replace them along my Valve Cover because gasked wouldnt do the job it was melted am i right in my guesss ? Also my fuel consumption got up ..

Hi was yours the cam sensor failure nate ? Helping a friend with a 107 . Crank no start . Spark on cylinders 1 only it's not ignition coils or spark plugs ruled that out

Sure... They are the same type of transducer, that is they are magnetic and work on the same 3-wire principle.

I'm currently having a rough start when the engine is warm. My question is would this work as well for a sensor that is malfunctioning not just bad? Or is this what is determined bad?

There are no codes and have not had any. However you can definitely tell the lack of power, rough starts when hot, rough shifts or just the automatic acting like it doesn't know what to do, rough idle, and hesitation. If you have any other ideas I'm all ears. We have completed and replaced sparks, coils, injectors, fuel pump, intakes, throttle bodies, and a few small maintenance items. I drive a infiniti g37 2013 so all the minor issues from previous years are non existent.

Hello, i have a Octavia 2.0 fsi 150Hp, this Week during a night was -20 C and the car won’t start in the morning, crank but not start. I haved one error on diagnose: P000A camshaft position “A” timing; slow response BANK 1, Intermitent. I saw this video and check my camshaft position sensor and wire and i have just the signal from/to ECU ( 4.8 ) but no voltage from battery so the question is: i have the + wire is in short or interrupted and the sensor don’t get current?

I have a 2010 cx7 I am getting 1 initial spark on cylinder 1,2,and 4 Nothing on 3 and after the first spark I have no more until I let of the key and turn it again Also the tack is not moving as I turn over the engine Any suggestions?

I backprobed the connector and got 4.93V across the ground and signal wire. But when I plugged the camshaft sensor into the connector the voltage dropped to 0.26V. I made sure the sensor was not near any metal and this happened both when the car was running and not running. What would cause the voltage drop?

When I did the test it read from 5 volts the signal wire and when I put the socket over it. It read 2.9 volts. Is that sensor good?

Have a 97 honda s2000 with a po335. I did ur test. UNPLUGGED I have 12v batt voltage on one wire, ground and a different wire and 5volt reference on the last wire. NOW WHEN I PLUG IN a ckp sensor have 12v, ground, and now 9.5v on the ref wire. Is the sensor shorted? I tried the socket trick the my ref voltage stays the same. Currently I’m wait for a new sensor to test. Any ideas?
