Good vid. I'm one little bit more fussy when I do my Passat PD TDI oil change and suck out the old oil thats left in the filter housing and even right down in the oil cooler with a hand pump and small tube to get as much of the old stuff out as I can...and I take the oil filter out first to let whats in there drain to the sump before I undo the sump bolt. And it would surprise you how much oil will still empty out drain even when its down to a drip...the first time I did it myself, I couldnt get the oil filter cap off, so went to the parts store for a tool...put back sump plug while i was gone...gone 40mins...undid plug again and a good few 100mls came gushing out. So now I give it at least an hour to drain when I do it. Every little helps!! :) Keep up the great vids! From Scotland

My '06 Sonata has the same filter. I was warned to make sure BOTH o-rings are new and installed. Without the little one, bad things can happen to your engine.

The engine looks to be a non-PD. Do you prefer the 5w40 or the 5w30? You can get the oil pool out of the oil filter housing using the top off a pump type soap dispenser with a length of pipe on the pickup tube. Dip the pipe in the oil pool and pump it out into a small bowl.

Lucas Oil makes a 5w40 formulated for German engineering. That's what all the cool kids in Canada are using.

@@abemichau4706 In Finland I use Teboil Diamond Diesel 5W40 oil in my -99 Passat with AJM engine. It probably is not available outside Finland. Absolutely best oil for VW PD-type engines.

The drain bolt is usually replaced because some say it can degrade after each oil change, thus leading to grand leaks.

Anyone clarify tdi bew or ahl how can I find that out?

Pretty sure it's based on the year it was manufactured, ALH is '99-'03 and BEW is something like '04-'07
@fowvee4 жыл бұрын
The ALH engine uses an external fuel pump that you'll notice at the front of the engine. This pump is driven by the timing belt. The BEW is a unit-injector design that uses an injection pump at each cylinder so there is no external fuel pump. The BEW drives the individual cylinder fuel pumps by a cam plunger driven off of the camshaft. The ALH was installed through model year 2003, the BEW was installed in 2004-2006 in the USA. There was no 2007 TDI in the USA. In 2009 the TDI Jetta/Golf was reintroduced with a common rail diesel engine code CBEA. This engine had the displacement of 2.0 liters, the ALH and BEW were 1.9 liters.

no idea if its the same in the US but in europe the sticker that has your paint code on it (1 in the boot beside spare wheel another in the door sill) will also have an engine code. Mine says BXE.
