A study published in Nature estimated that excess diesel NOx emissions in Europe could lead to 11,500 excess premature deaths per year. While this figure includes various health impacts, it highlights the significant health burden posed by diesel fumes.

Blank off the EGR. It's a stupid piece of kit.
@TheGalifrey3 күн бұрын
Actually it is a combination of the EGR AND oil vapour from the PCV. If you add a catch can to the PCV system and empty it regularly the EGR won't cause an issue. My Mercedes Diesel has 250k and when I removed the manifold this weekend it was clear because I have a catch can in the PCV system before the pipe goes into the inlet.
@johnwoodrow87692 күн бұрын
Agree. It's the oil vapor from the crankcase hitting the exhaust entering the intake manifold via the EGR that creates all the black sludge (as well as filling the inter cooler if the engine is a turbo with oil). The problem really manifests itself if the engine has to work hard e.g. a loaded commercial vehicle or towing.

Aha - I've been petsitting for family members while they travel and there's bottles of this Add-Blue stuff in the garage, had no idea you have to add this stuff to diesel vehicles (I only ever owned petrol).

Idle a diesel and that’s what happens. Short trips and idling kills diesels. Thanks epa! These systems aren’t saving the environment they’re making it worse due to higher costs, more maintenance, more engine replacements, more down time etc etc One of the many reasons I traded my ‘15 F250 6.7 powerstroke at 55k miles. Started having dpf sensor failures and those exhaust systems are about $10k. No thanks. Traded it for my ‘21 TRD ORP Runner and haven’t looked back!
@PeterStaniforth2 күн бұрын
. . . . You mean idle a MODERN diesel engine. I had a 96 Ford Transit with the 70bhp diesel engine. (No DPF blanked off EGR) It had done 500,000 when I bought it. Never did long trips in it except a trip to Brooklands south of London. Filled the tank in Leeds before I set off and arrived back that night with over half a tank left! It'd done 620,000 when I eventually scrapped it, because the bodywork rotted around the engine! It simply refused to die! 🤣
@KendrasEdge7572 күн бұрын
@ well yeah, clearly, older diesels don’t have dpf systems and scr’s. They kill diesels. It’s no surprise why the older diesels run so good for so long.

Why is that some people posting videos showing how to repair, replace or cleaning vehicles parts never show the final results? was the problem fixed? I could make a video showing how to tear down an engine and then putting it back together but, will it work?

Thank you for taking the sacrifice of no gloves for filming. I know a lot of old timers who were mechanics after 20-30 years regret the never wearing gloves because they have all kinds of liver or organ failures later because their skin absorbed things. But I hear many of them keep dirty shops unlike you, so they are constantly breathing chemicals evaporating. I remember my father had some type of chemical barrier protectant he had in small packets. It said to rub into hands and it becomes a barrier and at the end, you can wash your hands and the chemicals outside the barrier washes off. I think it was something like Invisible Glove for mechanics. Thanks for the tips Petr.

This may or may not work for you, but it's worth a try: I just had this problem with my 2015 Forester. I used a pump to remove all the washer fluid. Then I flushed the reservoir with water and pumped that out. Then I took a hammer handle and banged on the reservoir a few times. Then I refilled with new washer fluid. So far, so good, problem solved.
@nohandle19617 күн бұрын
In the second video, you go through the gears of the transmission to open up the valves for the new fluid/oil. Do you want to do that when you are draining the fluid? Either with the engine running or with it off? If that would drain more fluid, naturally, it would also increase the amount of fluid needed to slightly more than 2.8 US quarts. Thanks for these awesome videos!
