Always better to replace the oil filter before you drop the oil from the sump. Once you unscrew the oil filter housing cap, it drops dirty oil from the filter & housing into the sump.

The mistake here is removing the oil filter after the sump plug has been refitted. Oil will drain out of the filter bowl when its removed. A tip! - cut the stem on the funnel short so its sits snug on the rim of the oil filler. I have the stem cut to allow a gap between it and the oil filler's cross piece which is common on VAG cars.

Good to see Motul is VW505.00/505.01. Many do not state this and insist on 505.00 only. I see no harm using 505.01 in a before 2004 TDi engine. I could be wrong.

Oil must be 505.01 for all Tdi engines (oil with detergents) to clean the diesel engine (and in my case it must be also 5W40)

how to change the oil ez drive on a really bad road break the oil tank and lose all the oil replace the oil tank and fill it with new oil job done the ironic part is that it happened to me 1 month before i was squedeled to change my oil
