I put an "built" analog AOD into a 72 Grand Torino 347" (C4 car) and it fit perfectly. I made a mount for the original column shift cable at the trans end and a Lokar lever. Original speedometer drive worked perfectly. 🔔👍😎 Got a 71 Mustang Cleveland job coming up.

Would love to toss a AOD in my old '82 F150 but hate the thought of going from a stout C6 to a weak AOD. At least my current plan is a hybrid kind of deal, going to be throwing the planetary gearset from a E40D transmission into my C6 to improve acceleration and just live with a 2,750 rpm @ 75 mph with a 3.25:1 axle ratio.

Ahhhhhhh..... CONVERSION Woes!!!! 😖 I know this will end well - but the process really takes me back... Like at 20yrs old, when a Friend and I SHOEHORNED a 351C into a 73 Maverick!! WITH Front DRUMS!!! 😲😳😖 It was 1984, we didn't know much about Spindle conversions yet. There was no Internet to tell us that Granada Spindles would nearly drop right in. ~ and even if they're "low performance" compared to today, they would have been one HELL of a lot better at STOPPING than the 10" DRUMS, at the end of the Dragstrip after a 12.90 Run!!!! Ahhh to be young and stupid again. 😜 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

Need a how about AOD swap for a C6 with a FE engine. Cougar or Mustang
@baccusthedrunken4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this episode! Planning to put AOD in 68 falcon wagon. I believe the chassis is the same from what I have read. Do y’all know if that is the case? Would love to now more about this drive line swap!
@tombryant11044 жыл бұрын
Other than crossmember mount being shorter than on Fairlane/Torino, chassis is same. Eons ago I swapped 351 & FMX in a 289/C4, '67 Falcon wagon(hey there 240Z). Can't remember which crossmember I used, as I had a complete '69 Torino GT parts car. Swap did require redrilling the Falcon crossmember mounting. Never know, you may find '68 Falcon totally same...
@AutoRestoMod4 жыл бұрын
The C4 crossmember is the "mid" position on the Fairlane but there are multiple mounting positions in it. Falcon uses the same set up on the undercarriage in fact they are almost identical the only difference in the Falcon is the fact that there's no rear storage well in those accept as an option.

Autorestomod Manic Mechanic Gasoline Media you mentioned further down that AOD not a good idea for local driving, why would that be?
@hotrodray68024 жыл бұрын
@@baccusthedrunken I don't use OD except on the highway. With the analog AOD or the E with the lockup converter it's just extra wear shifting up and down too often. Dropping from 3000 to 2200 on the highway is good. JMO.

I distinctly remember my '67 Falcon wagon not having three openings in the crossmember mount, only one(Torino donor had three). Had to drill additional openings at end of mount. Was concerned there would be a problem as approx half of the crossmember had no mount surface, never gave any issue. The FMX had rear transmission mount farther back than C4(it'd already wiped out two C4). Drove it for approx three years & even used it to tow a yard of concrete from U-cart on two separate occasions. I will say the drum brakes were a bit sketchy. As stated prior that could have changed with later models. Guess I should refer to Ford Master Parts. @@AutoRestoMod

Will a stock speedometer cable on a 70 Torino be a direct fit in a 4r70w or do I need the vss sensor?
@AutoRestoMod2 жыл бұрын
It can be a direct fit. Our car had a C4 with the input on the drivers side of the transmission like our 4R70W.

Hey going to assume you know a good bit about 4R70W so wanted to run something by you. Do you think that Performance Automatics Super Comp 4R70W that is rated for 950hp will in fact hold up to that rating and be reliable for street use?
@AutoRestoMod4 жыл бұрын
I have no idea. I can imagine that they have tested it to at least that power number. I know that Lentech has for a while had AODs that were speced to that kind of power number.
