Watching with a different perspective now because i am actually doing my restomod on my 68 Ranchero. Pulled a 4r70w out of a 2000 mustang a couple of days ago and it is on its way to be test fit into my 69 wagon as soon as the rain lets up. All I got to say is Damm you guys. Now I have to watch the same video over and over and over! Smiley face Smiley face

Good stuff...getting ready to make a cross member to install a 200r4 overdrive in my brothers 63 impala SS soon and I picture it going down kind of like this. I have to mention though ....I had no issue using the c4 cross member on my 67 fairlane when I switched to a 4 speed...just bolted up.

I should have clarified, the four speed for a big block.

Nice work fellas! I know you just showed the view from straight underneath the trans, but from that angle, it's hard to see why Cam cut the angle off of the angle iron. In general, it would be much stronger if that angle could be retained. It appears to extend straight back, so it doesn't appear that there was any need to cut off the angle and end up with only flat plate. Also, there should really be gussets where the cross member attaches to the extension piece. But still - GREAT job and thanks for sharing it with the rest of us Fairlane owners!

There is a rolled edge on the flange on the car. That necessitated the cut on the L bracket.

Always fun, watching you, and Cam do stuff like that, makes me wish I had a small machine shop so I could get in there with youse guys, reminds me of the setup I used on the 61 econo pickup...good job, as usual.
@waynespyker57313 жыл бұрын
If you have a vice, hand drill, a quality file w/card and a hacksaw you have all the tools needed to construct the bracket modification except a welder. More sweat and time will be required for equal results however an angle grinder and a drill press swill shorten construction time. _ During layout if clearance permits avoid any sharp internal corners (sharp corners collect stress tending to start a fracture). Form the corner notch by drilling holes then sawing or angle grinding a slot tangent to the drilled hole to remove the excess flange metal. The drill here would be 1/2 - 3/4 "diameter. _ Hacksaw, saw-all or angle grinder will function for the metal thickness here. But if it was heavy thick consider a line of small holes almost contacting the last drilled, hacksaw or break away the waste metal with a hammer. Dress the crescents with the file or angle grinder. 1960 machine shop rule of thumb - The fastest way to remove metal was a saw or drill. _ Welding off site at a weld shop. May need a scrap wood fixture to align the components. _ Each time you connect to the corner radius with the saw slot or the file you will have the feeling of accomplishment! No machine shop needed!

My 4r70w from the 2000 mustang had the shift lever pointing down already so lucky me. It does have a sensor on it that tells what gear you are in. Has a line on it where it is to be adjusted to neutral. does your monster not use that? Was expecting to see a 3 bolt setup on the trans because it sat behind a v6 but it was 2 bolt so good luck there.have heard it crank with the old starter. Now that i am into it, I think i will do whatever tunnel mods needed to get the trans angle ideal. Hate to loose my bench seat but it may happen.The mustang floor shifter would just be too easy to install Would you do the same if your seat was not already covered? Anyway hope your solenoid comes in from Taska. I know you are itching to get er done .
@AutoRestoMod4 жыл бұрын
We like the "come here darlin'" seat too much to chunk it. If the car had buckets, we would have done a floor shift...and then had to spend zillions on a console...LOL Not sure on the sensor, but all the stuff is in there that is supposed to be there. I'll have to look into that. The solenoid got eaten by the Virus, I found another one and put it in. We're about to move forward on the driveshaft again. We'll be buttoning the transmission up in about three weeks.
@btu911114 жыл бұрын
@@AutoRestoMod HaHa "come here darlin" seats . My dog used to sit like that at the drive through and i had her trained to put her arm around me when we left My seat is not covered yet so I may be able to notch it and also looking at that lockar cable shifter that clamps to the botom of the column to get around the Borgeson box i want so there may be hope yet. Admittedly i am on the verge of exceeding my skill set but have lots of time .

Lol no. He was far enough out on the bucket to keep the heat down...now there were pock marks from the weld spatter

Great video...I have a problem with my aod there is no 1st gear when in "D" or "OD", it always starts in 2nd. I have first gear when I put the shifter in "1", I tried bump shifter from "1" to "D" and immediately shifts into 2nd gear without touching gas pedal. I would appreciate any idea/advice to solve this issue.
@AutoRestoMod5 жыл бұрын
To the best of my memory early aods that was normal. It seems to me that you had to do some squirrely stuff to actually get it into low gear. Like shift from second down into first back up to second and then back down into first LOL
@hobbypower25 жыл бұрын
@@AutoRestoMod Is it possible that there is no 1st in "D" and "OD" since all my testing so far was with the rear-end in the air(no load)? My AOD is from 89 or newer looking at the casting number plus I'm retrofitting it in my 66 mustang(289).
