Autorotation in DCS World / UH-1H Huey

I've been practicing autorotations in order to get to know the UH-1H Huey by Belsimtek a bit better. I have no prior experience with helicopter flying in simulators nor real life, so I definitely need to work on my skills. But I'm sure that will come with practice.
Here is one of my better autorotations of the day, both in a short cinematic as well as a first person video.

Just punch a bunch of F-keys. F11 and CTR-F11 are some of my favourites. But it has been a while since I’ve launched DCS, so I could be wrong.

ok i just watched you do autorotation but what is it exactly?

It’s an emergency procedure in case of power loss. You basically drop your collective as fast as possible to keep the air flowing up through your rotor blades. This will allow you to keep your rotor RPM without engine power. Once you’re nearing the ground, you flare off and safely touch down before you lose your RPM. it’s almost like soaring 😁

@@plokkum I was a huey pilot and this is not the right procedure for autorotation... For a standard autorotation maintain 65-70 knots while on decent, at 125 ft agl flare the helicopter to decelerate and break the rate of decent. After that level off the helicopter and then it will decent again... at approximately 15-20 ft agl u pull quite hard and sudden on the collective to break the rate off decent again... now you should hover at nearly 4-5 ft with maybe 15 knots... you use the remaining kinetic energy in the main rotor to smoothly cushion your landing. Your welcome. Maximum range and low level autorotation are different procedures and should also be trained.

@@plokkum you seam very skilled with the controls so i assume you will have decent results after short time... start your training from 1000 ft agl, and pay attention that the rotor rpm doenst rise above 330 rpm, if so, apply a little collective to bring it down again. in your video you pulled out to many energy of the rotor while you still had somewhat around 20-30 ft... in reality the risk of the main rotor striking the tail boom in that state is very high, cause of the instability of the see-saw rotorsystem... thats the reason you keep the centrifugal forces in the rotor as long as possible and apply collective very sudden at 15-20 ft to break rate of decent... the last remaining few feet you use rest of energy to cushion the landing. good luck and i would appreciate if u drop a video with that procedure ;) and remember, beside of maintaining approximately 320-330 rotor rpm the first time of using the collective is at 15-20 ft... before that you just adjust with cyclic inputs.
