Perfect. And the Phantom gets really mushy when slow, needs frequent throttle adjustments and the way in. You gotta fly it in. Its a pig when shes slow. Also, Ive found that raising the seat all the way really helps. I like to lean left for better forward visibility on the approach. One of the hardest birds to land IMO.
@plokkumАй бұрын
It’s definitely a challenge. Whereas the modern jets have great response to throttle inputs and hud indicators, the Phantom needs constant juggling with the throttle. Once she starts dropping, you’re probably already too late to recover.
@KillerKev1961Ай бұрын
@@plokkum even navy style causes gear collapse lol. The Phantom isn’t very fun in air combat maneuvering. It’s fun as a bomber. Going back to the Viper. Now that’s a fun bird!

The ducking of the aircraft sounds whenever the beeps are playing is pretty annoying. The fact that the engine and wind noises just cut out when the beep plays is that from the sim or is the audio processed?
@plokkumАй бұрын
The first person cockpit view’s audio is unprocessed, so it must be the sim. I never noticed until I read your comment and rewatched that section. Feels like my eardrums are playing tricks on me. I hope I’ll one day return to being oblivious 😅😁

Interesting, autorotation is possible? I ran out of fuel yesterday and one second after it fell like a stone, all screens and hydraulics off :D
@plokkumАй бұрын
It is possible if you do it within a very thin margin of error. But I doubt these would be survivable on any other surface than tarmac. Now I’m not a real life pilot, but I do think autorotation is not modeled correctly for the Apache. I feel like it’s not picking up enough up inflow during descent.

So here is a summation: my bombs fuses were probably set incorrectly so they didn’t go off. I forgot to remove the wheel chocks. I had to do a go around on my first landing attempt. I landed short and bounced off. On my second flight, Jester just decided to eject. Good times.

As far as playing with the attitude for RPM control, worth mentioning that forward cyclic will reduce RPM and aft will raise them. Also will need a little aft cyclic on entry because the nose is gonna drop when you lower the colective. And finally if you work the collective full down in the flare you will have more RPM to spare to cushion. Good job with the tutorial. -Helicopter CFI
