Recently, Mazda took the decision to discontinue the 2.0 MX-5 for the European Union, but it will remain for sale in the UK. This now leaves them only with the 1.5 engine.
@pauldempsey49814 ай бұрын
The 1.5 L is the more suitable engine, just as Japan intended. The 2.0 L is surplus to requirements on twisting, European roads. I wouldn't expect any American to understand that "corners" only exist on our city streets. We have "bends", "twists", "hairpins", and "chicanes'. No one is drag racing an MX-5.
@jdmguy444 ай бұрын
@@pauldempsey4981yep the ND was actually conceived around the 1.5. The 2.0 was really for the US market.

It's important to hold on to heritage, but it's just as important to adapt to the modern times, especially with these gas prices! Right off the bat: the colour. It seems like every car enthusiasts has a thing a grey colours on cars, and with good reason. That Aero Grey sparkles like a diamond! Love the aggressive style at the front with the LEDSs. The wheels are gorgeous, as expected. As although it's not the fastest, it has the right amount of power that you need. I'm curious as to how this stacks up to other Japanese competitors like the Subaru BRZ, and of course the more iconic Toyota GR86 with its reliable All Wheel Drive. Great review as always!!!
@ManuNarang4 ай бұрын
The GR86 does not have AWD
@toshitanaka15503 ай бұрын
Both are rear wheel drive. GR86 and the BRZ twins will have problems with their engines if they are basically driven hard on the track with oil leakage. Over all if you don’t drive the boxer engine hard you should get a decent vehicle for everyday driving granted with proper season tires depending on your location. The Miata’s is pretty reliable and it can track pretty well without a sweat. Both car are used for different purposes, but you can’t go wrong with both since they are pretty good for the value and being dependable as long as you take care of the car you drive.

4:30 as I also used to have an ND MX5, this is a firmly a NON ISSUE for me, Mazda actually once collaborated with the BBC on a panorama documentary about modern cars’ infotainment system, using a touchscreen whilst driving is far more distracting than using physical controls, this is a safety decision and focuses the driver to the task at hand, driving. What’s more is that it keeps the screen clean & clear & free of oily fingerprints, so it’s nice & tidy & always easy to read.

I 've always had a soft spot for the MX-5 from when the MK1 was introduced. I nearly got one of the previous generations a long time ago but as the point made during the video back then it would have been a second car and I didn't have room or the cash to spare for a second car but it did come close to being my only car. I think I prefer the face lift version as the DRLs seems to be a little at odds with the style in my case. Maybe I'll revisit my decision not to get one at some point in the future as I don't need the practicality of a 'normal' car as much as I did back then. A cracking review as usual Tish and thanks for sharing but as you mention it would be great to have the choice between the touch screen and the scroller. Maybe a software update could allow that I don't know..

Yea, I would love to get one too, but can only afford one car, and as my only car it would really be quite impractical.

Hi Tish, great video as always! Recently purchased a CX30 as my daily and love the rotary controller and hats off to Mazda for not allowing touch screen whilst driving, superb safety feature. Like you I like a digital speed readout as well as analogue - on the MX5 you could have Waze on your Apple CarPlay centre screen - this gives you your current speed, speed limit and a warning if you go over alternatively for motorway or average speed areas just set your cruise control. There are probably other apps that would give you a digital speed display. 😊

@Saboda532 ай бұрын
Good question! And there’s a good answer: the reason why touchscreen is disabled when moving is SAFETY and “distracted driving” - it’s safer to use the dials than it is to AIM your bouncing, outstretched arm, hand & finger to hit a tiny point on a jiggling, bouncy screen. Doing that is more dangerous because it requires more of your brain to successfully do. Now you know.

The NB was my favorite with just more refined than the NA, with an aggressive looks, one I kept the longest, and wasn’t an initial fan of the NC, and delay upgrading the NC to 2nd gen of the NC, due to issues with NB, rust cancer…the NC was teased as a clown car… it was big and wide, and cheaply made interior and engine had too much plastic, jump to the RF and is my favorite and best Miata made so far, NB my 2nd favorite and NA my 3rd choice and NC last… agree Mazda kept the original ingredient in the Miata NA in each generation.

Hey Tish, great video as usual 😀Can you please tell me what the boot capacity is for the MX-5. When I searched it up it said 130L. Is it correct? I think that manufacturers don't make small, fun and cheerful cars like the MX-5 due to the lack of demand from the public. Nowadays people want something that is economical, safe and easy to drive in town whilst having loads of practicality. Looking forward to the new Picanto review. 😄

You are incorrect with your statement that Mazda moved the "foglights" from the lower bumper into the headlamp units and you even strengthened your error by illustrating ( 2:40 ) a static shot of the pre facelift model, which shows the DLR's illuminated, as they were positioned there, prior to being integrated into the headlamps as with the exact model beside you. Try reading the press kit, even less excuse having the car in the metal beside you.
