Opel brand has such a history, in 60s 70s they made opel admiral kapitan and diplomat models to challenge mercedes when audi or vw doesnt even really exist lol. In 80s opel had great cars like senator, monza, manta or in 90s Lotus Omega, kadett gsi, astra gsi.....

I feel like all the auto industry from the latest years has borrowed the straight lines and they have 0 originality nowadays. Such a shame.

I bought my 2013 Astra J OPC in 2014. Got it from an Opel Dealer in Sweden, never sold new in my country. Really like the car, has done just 28000 km from new. Cheers from car collector in Norway

It is a lovely car. We have quite a few of them here in the UK, (As vauxhall Astra VXR's) and they are still lovely even by today's standards. Much more fun to drive than all the automatic hot hatches we get today. I've driven both, and I would take this over the new Golf GTI anyday.

Same conclusion,a very good and underrated car,like the OPC Corsa in the same way. It's only because the Brand name and the call they earned in the 80's! Back in the 60 and 70's Opel got a Stand like Audi is today... They never cured complete since the 80's and the Kadett GSI can't turn back only on his own... For me Opel is quite back and is one of the best car in his class with an eye on it's price, you get more for less money - and thats fo sure ☝️👍🤞🐞🍀☮😘

Yes the car is underated, but you also forgot to mention two important things about the car. Sport button affects suspension, steering, throtle response and ESP (it switches to some sort of special mode). It has stand alone ECU for IDS system. Rally great thing but it has one big flaw. There is no replacement shock absorber for any Astra J with sport suspension or IDS system. Older model Astra H had replacement shocks and they were made only by Sachs, the company invented the system. Price for H was 250€ per piece if you got great discount. Genuine one is 350€ or even more. Price for Astra J shock is more than twice of that. Luckily there is a company in Poland which can rebuild them at affordable price. 👍

Fun Fact: If you are putting the rear seats down you get a much louder car inside and hearing the (stock) exhaust sound much louder. The OPC Community calls it „Jet Noise“ when you are at high torque the blowing sound sounds makes you feel like you are Maverick from Top Gun 🤭🤩 PLUS: you still have a car sound after and before „Jet Noise“ and if its warm you‘ll get the pops and bangs by letting your feed from gas.

One of the nicest looking cars even today. I have Astra J GTC but with 1.7 CDTI engine, and I really have no problems with it so far. I guess that they are a bit underrated since they are Opel/Vauxhall.

I like the wrap. Underrated car. Not many people buy fast Opels because of their image which was and sometimes still is 'reliable and functional, but generally not exciting'. Opel Kadett and Astra was a car for mostly elderly people and once you have such an image it's extremely hard to get rid of.

Mine has a EFR turbo with all other good stuff and it makes well over 400 hp and 550Nm. The difference between stock and one with some work done to it is night and day. The stock power curve is not that enjoyable wit high torque at around 3000rpm to 4000 rpm. The power comes in again around 4500 to 5500 and then quickly drops off. A modified one with hybrid turbo or EFR like mine has torque blasting in around 3000 and holds it to 5500 where power takes over till 7200 RPM. That is a completely different experience both in power delevery and sound / driving experience. Also the fact mine is completly stock on the outide and not a frequently seen car has surprised several "top brand" drivers.

I had the down-level spec. of this car. It just had a 1.4 litre 140 hp. engine, but it looked very well. If you get a second-hand one then you should choose the blue colour one. I think this colour is the sportiest colour for this model. This was the last model before Opel was bought by PSA.

Not really, the K astra was also developed before Opel was bought. And the K astra is actually a good car. The J is just so damn heavy, and feels incredibly sluggish, while the K feels much more nimble. Drove both with a similar 1.4 turbo, and the K felt like a car that was much, much better. Same with the A insignia and the B insignia. The early 2010 were the lowest point of Opel, all of their cars were heavy as hell, super sluggish, and absolutely bland, without exception, sadly. Ofc the OPC versions were stiffer, and sportier, but still, too heavy.

Something is not right with its performance. I have a 2017 OPC, stock, and it goes faster than this one. Not to mention the top speed on the speedo, in my case it was 272km/h. I heard that some cars were underpowered, having around 240 BHP. Maybe this is the case here.

The thing that makes this car underrated is its weight actually. It should be like 1600kg. So in the straight autobahn drives fine, but when you hit the car to the curve it starts to suffer its weight

It was sold as the Opel Astra OPC here in OZ for about a year before OPEL pulled out again. Then it was the sold as the Holden Astra VXR. I have the Australian delivered Opel Astra OPC version.

In the UK they are known as an Astra VXR, these newer shapes are very rare, not sure why as they're faster than a focus ST, which is very popular

I had a solid black, it was not a 2016 my mistake it was a 13 plate... great car to drive and feel quicker and ham it was.... my friend had the Scirocco R which was noticeably quicker... the gear box on the VXR from what I know was the standard box for the bass standard Astra which is what caused the issues as it just simply wasn't made for anything above 150bhp and using it in the VXR variant was a cheep cost saving from Opal/Vauxhall cutting corners. Had the gear box replaced twice within a year less than 6000 miles and had the clutch replaced once... loved the car and the looks but finally sold it as I could feel there was going to be expensive issues going forward...
