I have been a big proponent of how lithium batteries should be charged to maximize battery life and capacity. It started some years ago with my phone. Now we see phone makers incorporating features in the software to help battery life over a long period. I used to manually charge my phone to no more than 80% or 85%, and had to use an app to notify when it reached my desired level. Now Samsung has options in their latest UI to stop charging at 80% or to allow the software to adapt to when the user starts using their phone at the beginning of a day, and charging slows at 80% and trickle charges up to 100% while attempting to time it for when the user will first use their phone (similar to what Apple does). I also have an app that shows me the efficiency of each charge and what percentage of a full charge cycle I'm using each time I charge. So I often stop charging between 60 and 70% to have even better efficiency, as doing that actually uses less total charge cycles vs charging to 80% or higher. So, I decided to adopt the same approach with my Tesla. I've done a lot of longer trips since first getting it. So, it has been mostly supercharging... But I don't mind charging to 80% and getting back on the road while it seems many people supercharge beyond that. Not only does it take almost as long to get to 100% as it does to supercharge to 80%, but I believe it will be worse on the battery over the long haul. When I'm at home, and I know I won't be going far the next day, I might charge to 65% max each time. I know that this will increase the life of the battery.

@Harakai100
@Harakai100 Ай бұрын
@@RatManAl It's not ruining the battery, it's just added wear over time. You definitely should charge to 100% before you start a long trip or anything that really pushes the range, but there is no point in daily charging to 100% unless you have an LFP pack which needs 100% to calibrate. The thing about taxi drivers is that they often want all the range they can get and they might sometimes be sitting and waiting for a while for the next assignment, so they might be fastcharging to 100% over and over again. Batteries hate the combination of heat and high state of charge. For any casual user, that might occur only a few times a year that you'll supercharge all the way to 100% and sit there and wait, but for some taxi drivers, not knowing better, they may do that several times a day. A normal NCM pack in a Tesla is usually at around 60 degrees celcius when it's done fast charging, in case youre wondering. Note that the guy in the video did in fact say that he charges regularly to 100%, however I am guessing he doesnt let it sit at 100% at a supercharger with a warm pack over time.

What? MSM have been publishing bs articles for years about EV’s and how good they’re for our planet. Why is no one talking about the rare minerals that are used in these cars that are dug up by basically slaves in Africa and most other countries that have an abundance of rare minerals. Why is no one talking about how much pollution these cars put into the atmosphere before they even end up on our roads? I could go on and on about why EV’s are not the answer but I’ve said it to many times. We only have to look at how many manufacturers are switching back to making ICE engines to know it’s a failing concept that I hope will be forgotten very soon. Synthetic fuels are the way forward. ALSO PLANTS THRIVE ON CARBON, MORE PLANTS EQUALS MORE OXYGEN AND SO ON. BASIC SCIENCE! Around 1900 scientists and experts have signed a declaration claiming there is no climate emergency. I think we need to start listening to both sides and come up with a solution instead of believing the climate alarmist who prey on fearing people into doing things. We also have to look at how the big corporations that are pumping massive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere actually moved the blame onto the consumer instead of actually doing something about it themselves.

Most things battery have a longer life when constantly used. I don’t think you see this longevity unless you drive it often and you also no accidents but still impressive

6:50 yeah mine has that too! it's kinda a funny easter egg at this point XD since it was a giant design flaw back in the days

I really like this guys approach to Evs he drives it how you should drive a car and doesn't need to worry about battery health and charging points. I own a 15 plate BMW i3Rex with over 90k miles on it! I still get 70-80 miles on a full charge. 150+ with the rex too 👌🏻 BMWs battery warranty is up but health wise, its on 89% degration 👌🏻 best decision ive done is switching from fuel to battery!

Charging to 100% isn't that bad. You just don't want to keep it at 100%. So supercharging and then driving off is the best thing to do.

Very impressiv and a great thanks to you for sharing this and making it public. Maybe it convinces one ore the other that electric cars and perticulary Teslas are not a bad choice to make. I have planned to keep my MY „forever“ and I hope it keeps up as well.
