Living in British Columbia with a 2023 e-tron we find it’s incredibly capable off-road dirt trails. In January snow: passed 7 stranded cars including a Jeep on a bendy hill. Literally they stopped fitting chains to watch as my dog and I glided silently by. Waving. What’s almost criminal is that Audi are ending production of this superb car.

Come to Nigeria you would find 1990 FWD Audi 80 with 70hb not just decending a hill worse than that, but actually going up it, with 4 people in the back seat and 3 people in the front, its a Taxi so they do it wet or dry, year round, and the cars don't struggle 😂

Just make sure you'te going fast enough at the bottom to make it to the top, and if it doesn't make it up, you've got 6 people to push it up lol

@@MegaJessejames91 No actually, They usually climb slowly very careful not to overwhelm the wheels with too much throttle, and ensure the 2 front wheels are always touching the ground, its no different than what Rory did. They sandy part which is usually flat they so they fly through like its Dakar rally

Awesome review! I bought the 24 Sportback and it's super fun to drive especially after trading in my Q7. The normal suspension is nice as is but you can raise the car basically 5 more inches for terrain, rain, or snow! It's fantastic!

Now this looks intriguing. My own personal taste would be an A6 allroad dakar edition. I’m a bigger fan of estates than suvs.
@SolomFoz11 ай бұрын
something to think about; recharging stations in deserts would make a lot of sense if it is done right. Imagine that you can literally create a recharging station on top of a mountain in an isolated area just by creating solar panels and batteries to store the energy. This will gain a significant edge over gasoline stations.

From someone who is an off roader, this car offers zero practicality. None at all. 1. Where do you fit a winch 2. What happens when you off the beaten track, in the middle of a national park with lions and your range runs out? 3. If that air suspension goes bust can you fix it with chewing gum and tools you can find in your wife's makeup bag like you can with a landcruiser? 4. Too many electronics will definately mean an over keen sensor will prevent you from getting up and just going when you want (ask modern defender buyers) 5. How much will it cost to replace that battery? 6. if i decide to tow a 3.5 tone caravan with it, what will be my range? 7. How long do i have to wait until the battery charges full? Coz with my diesel engine only takes 5 min and i have more than 1000km range 8. If something goes wrong, how many mechanics know how to diagnose and fix the issues it has in the middle of nowhere? 9. What is its wading depth? 10. Can you honestly live in it and with it off the beaten track for at least a week like what diesel ICE drivers do?

Ι have a 2016 q5 with the brilliant audi quattro, and ith just tyres, this thing is amazing offroad. Im planning to add some diffs and skidd plates as well. I really dont understand why audi doesnt offer this pack oon the regualar q8. AT tyres, skid plates for protection, the cool appearance packet and the lsd they have in the sq8 and rsq8 i the rear, with a torsen in the front as well. Slightly raised up spuspension in off road mode is nice as well. They have a brilliand awd system and good suspension set up in the front. Offroading suvs are selling like hot cakes, audi should grab a piece of that pie.

Great video as always, Rory is one of my favourite reviewers. I would say that as an owner of a classic Land Rover Defender and someone who enjoys off-roading I would not class this as a very challenging off-road course I am guessing Audi told you where to take it? I feel like I could probably have done that in my wife's Q4 if I put chunky tyres on it (not that she would let me). Please lets see it enter a Land Rover Trials day and then show the faces of the Audi press office as you deliver it back on the back on the back of a recovery truck. That is not a criticism of your excellent video or channel which I love! Next time lets see some big boulders, deep mud, deep water and best of all some jumps 🙂 And at £120K that is only a bit cheaper than a Bowler Bulldog which is approximately one million times better.
@leangrypoulet752310 ай бұрын
"I feel like I could probably have done that in my wife's Q4 if I put chunky tyres on it (not that she would let me)." As also a classic Def driver (DCPU) I think you nailed it. It's an SUV with knobbly tyres. Which will no doubt be bought (and mainly driven) around London and the Home Counties, much like the Disco 6. Sorry, New Defender and its silly box, ladder and other plastic/pointless accouterments. The Porsche 911 Dakar has some kind of provenance behind the build, but this is really a case of Audi seeing how many fools they can get to part with their money. £10k difference between the one with stickers and the one without? Personally I'd buy a standard Q8 and then either a classic Defender (if feeling really brave), a new Land Cruiser (for serious off roading), a new Bronco (for some fun) or a Ariel Nomad (for some off-road hooliganism). But this is seriously the most pointless and expensive off road SUV I've ever seen. Move over the New Defender, you've lost your crown.

Cool review-having lived in Oman and other places in the Middle East though, I can tell you that camels are most certainly not afraid of any vehicle, ICE or otherwise. Imagine off roading in the middle of no where in an EV and then you run out of juice? Proper stuck. You'd be better off with a second hand Range Rover, a full tank of fuel and a few Jerry Cans in the boot.
@ego455111 ай бұрын
While this car isn't made for heavier or longer offroading, you aren't probably that stuck when you run out of battery. Small generator should do the trick. Or large solar panels in some scenarios. It's just a lot more annoying than a second hand range rover. Not nearly as annoying as getting stuck in a new range rover, though. The offroad efficiency and range would be interesting. For proper offroading a wouldn't touch a new car besides a Jimny anyway.

Now isn't this a coincidence. I wrote a long comment telling VW they should created an off-road using the Touareg version of this platform. I chose VW since the sister platforms all focus on luxury and performance. Where the Touareg comes in last and can't really compete. I figure it might as well be the off-road version of the platform. Then I log in today and find Audi has already come up with the idea. Oh well, at least the VW was a fully capable rock crawler with rear, center, and front lockers.
