I used to work on a alcohol dragster. The big issue here is the proof of alcohol is only 80, that means 60% of the liquid is water. Only 40% is actual alcohol. You also need to to change the timing so you have proper air fuel mix for what ever type of fuel your using, and you can only run them a short time because it is hard on the engine and will over heat quickly. That quarter mile drank about 5 gallons of pure alcohol, we had to pour gas in through the blower and then light it our selves to start it, we had to change the oil one a weekend, a set of spark plugs only lasted 2 weekends, and we where always fixing something after every run, always changing the head seals, the timing, the alcohol would eat through the rubber seals. It can be done but it involves a lot of work and modifying for it to be sustainable for more that a few miles.

As I recall, when BP started using ethanol back in the day, if you remember their commercials on TV would state something like "if you get stranded, we'll pay your tow". Because they knew the alcohol would eat away the rubber etc. I may not have all that exact, but close, I believe.

If you add an octane booster to the vodka it will run much better. The issue I think it's having is the alcohol is not only burning hotter than regular gas but it's also igniting quicker so the engine is probably having "pre-detination" which is probably the noise your hearing. Octain is the level of resistance to ignition, so by adding an octane booster your making it less "explosive" so to speak. Try it with an octain additive it should smooth it out.

If you're committed to this experiment. Why didn't you drain the tank? Every bit of gunk and sludge from the bottom of the tank has now been sucked through the entire fuel system, especially if it's fuel-injected. This experiment has derailed and the "results" are unfortunate from the beginning. You have to think of every variable. Try again with a clean system. According to various papers on "hydrous ethanol", the engine can deal with up to 20% of water in ethanol. I.e. 80% moonshine. Anything above 30% water will hydrolock an engine.

Absolut vodka is 40% alcohol so if the flavouring is even as high as 10% that leaves 50% water. That engine hasn’t hydrolocked

It happened because of too much water in vodka. Two centuries ago they used spirit alcohol (>95%). A small percentage of water is not harmful. But vodka's 60% already killed your engine (or hydrolocked? no idea). You'd have to freeze the vodka, and drain the alcohol before pouring it to the tank. In case of Diesel, it is also advised to add a small percentage of vegetable oil (5-20%) to the mixture, as a proper lubrication of the injector nozzles.

I would introduce some hacks: 1. Use 50° vodka. 38 or 40 is vodka for sure, but technically, 50 is, too. 2. Use least possible viscosity oil 3. Adjust valve timing for shorter intake and delayed exhaust: alcohol requires less air to burn and vodka burns slower. 4. Try run higher RPM: thermally stressed engine will add to water evaporation and a bit more power

@@Notfiveo0 my best guess would be the compression, with enough pressure you can increase the concentration of the alcohol in the air/alcohol mixture. My other guess as to why it seized is that while the alcohol kept igniting the water content from the vodka stayed in the cylinder ending up hydro locking the engine.

Even when the car shuts off from fuel there is still fuel in the tank in the bottom the fuel pump just can't reach it any more. So the vodka you added still mixed with previous fuel but it's mostly vodka hints the reason it's running like trash. It probably work great in any flex-fuel vehicle

It probably dies down because absolut vodka is 40% alcohol by volume, which means that there's 60% water. Water in the pistons is really really bad, hence why it's a good idea to do this with an old truck. Cool experiment And since I'm here, I think it's interesting to point out that regular fuel already contains 10% ethanol, which is the same as drinking alcohol. That's why you sometimes see E10 written at the pump, it's because there's 10% ethanol.

When I say that fuel contains ethanol, which is the same as regular drinking alcohol, I mean that "ethanol" is the scientific name for what we commonly refer as "alcohol". Therefore the 10% of ethanol in E10 fuel and whatever abv% your drink has are composed of the same exact molecule. However, that doesn't mean that drinking car fuel is the same as a drinking a glass of wine as there is the remaining 90% of the drink which are different. Don't drink car fuel. Drink vodka instead.

Btw guys heres a handy tip i learned growing up with all older vehicles. Once the tank says empty pr its on E, you can usually drive alot of those older cars and trucks for another 50-60 miles before theyll actually run out. They did that on purpose cuz they USED to be cool like that. You know, make things convenient for when you get caught off guard or get stuck in a bad situation. Those days are loooong gone though..

Here's the thing: there would still be some gas in the tank, even after running out. So when you poured the first bottle in, it was still a mix of gas and vodka. Then, as you poured the second bottle in, the mixture started to get higher on the vodka side and, as others have suggested, the higher vodka mixture started leave too much water in the cylinders and it hydro-locked.

Yeah, you can mix a lot of things to get you to the gas station. I pissed in the tank a few times back in my partying days, when I drank alcohol it always worked. I tried it once after I quit drinking and when I got home and shut the truck off and it cooled down,it locked up tight as a frogs a**. So lesson learned from experience 😂

Harder revs were likely flooding more of what it were already struggling with to begin with so just bogging it down. That's why it seemed to run a little better during lesser movement and idled worse after the harder pushes to the pedal. You drain a battery for starting it and you charge it back up by driving it so theres where your zero crank came from. Higher alcohol percentage might've got it running smoother, I reckon. Either way, good to see the experiment in action 👍😄

Ethanol IS alcohol. Grain, corn, to be more specific. Alcohol is a liquid form of sugar. But it burns! Maybe not the same as gasoline but it burns. Vodka is another form of sugar. Vegetable sugar but it should still burn. Basically running on e100 with the vodka but less milage on the gallon as the engine is tuned for gasoline. Expensive experiment! But fun!

I thought it was the starter to because ignitions can get stuck and that's what it sounded like to me, of your ignition works fine then hold it next time you start your vehicle and it will simulate a stuck ignition and that's what it will sound like

There's usually about a gallon or two in the tank reserve and fumes will keep it going quite a long time until you open the fuel cap. So if you have no fuel don't open the Cap until it stops. I've personally converted a car to run on fumes and the mpg is insane. There's videos on KZbin showing how to do it.👍💚💛❤️

I remember long time ago, in the 70s, in Madrid. A Seat 600 (Fiat 600) running on turpentine. The colleague had a factory which ended production, and he had a big quantity in stock. That car ran not so good with that gas, but ran. Of course, its low compression rate helped.

It’ll still be a mixture of gas and vodka as the fuel pick up will run the tank very low but not empty. So when you toss the vodka in, it’ll mix up with an inch or so of fuel remaining in the tank making it a 50/50 mix basically.

Just found out why it sized. There is no lubrication in vodka like there is in gasolene. You need some type of light oil mixed in with. Similarly the way you need to add oil in gasolene for a two stroke engine.
