Awesome review. One thing I found is that after turning the car over, before disconnecting the jump starter look at the voltage on the display. If the voltage is at about 14.4V then the alternator is working fine, but if reads about 13V or so you may need to have the alternator replaced. Kind of a nice thing to know and from there you can proceed however you need to

I used to carry a lithium jump pack in my car. A few months ago, a coworker had a weak battery. I whipped it out, all excited to use it. The batteries had gone bad, and they expanded and cracked the plastic housing. Luckily, another coworker had jumper cables. I checked the jump pack in my wife's car, and hers was bad too. They lasted 2 years with me checking them and recharging them every few months. Now I carry a capacitor jump pack instead.

I've had version 1 of this for a few years and it has worked great. I just bought version 2 as a gift and I cannot get it to work at all. As far as I can tell, there is no 'override' function on version 2, which is a key feature of this product. The 'override' feature allows you to use this product like any other battery to start anything with or without a battery, for example, a lawn mower that has no battery at all, or a car that has a completely dead battery. Without 'override', this new version will not do anything, because apparently it requires a certain amount of voltage in order to discharge. I guess I could carry around another battery to fool it, but with version 1 you just pressed the override button. Do not get version 2! Version 1 is the one you want.

@PaulsToolReview25 күн бұрын
You are correct about the override on version 1 and I have had to use that in the past one time. Not sure if version 2 has the override option, but I asked it on amazon questions for the version 2 product. I did by another version 2 as I would like one in another car since the version 1 has saved my and and my friends many times. Only once did I have to use the override on version one and it's nice to have when you need it. Most of the time, you don't need to override in my experience. Hopefully, there's a way to override on the new version or trick it with an 9v battery and some leads in a pinch. The version two is less clunky with the control box separate and easier to use, but if it doesn't have the override option, then you could still get stuck in rare cases. Maybe Autowit will respond with a workaround for version 2? I did find this from a user on google, " If you have charged the device elsewhere, after connecting the device to the disable vehicle, you press the power on, then after the voltage light flashes green, you press and hold the override/power button for a couple seconds to deliver the starting current to the car."
@Jeremy-vb6tv25 күн бұрын
@@PaulsToolReview I use version 1 to start multiple vehicles (cars, lawn mowers, boats, tractors, etc...), many of which have no battery. Version 2 does not work for me at all, because it requires a functioning battery to be present before it will discharge the capacitors, so I returned it. Autowit had a great product with version 1, but they dropped the ball with version 2. Thankfully, now there are several other supercaps available on the market that have the override function.

Interesting because you had to use a, "PowerPack" (a traditional lithium battery charger) in order to actually get this product to work since the battery to be charged was completely dead. So, since these capacitor based chargers do not hold an internal charge, if you want to use it to charge your phone say, stranded, emergency (or in a power outage - unless you go out to the garage and use your car to charge it...?!?), you're SOL. I wonder if any "Hybrid" based Charger solutions have been considered...??

Also the capacitor model shown CAN be charged before stowing just like a lithium pack; if it were mine I would maintain it like that and check it like a lithium pack. it wouldn't be practical to maintain - the capacitors will lose their charge within 24 hrs - 2 of the selling points are (1) they don't keep a charge thus safer stowed in yr car and (2) you don't have to top it off regularly so it is closer to "maintenance free"
