And once discharged, the capacitor was dead, but within a fraction of a second, can be recharged to 300 volts. YOU SOLD ME DOOD!! Thanks! USCG Disabled Veteran! 1969-1978

Hi Scotty, ProjectFarm did a video recently of portable jump starters, and he tested this super capacitor. While it did spin the engine fast, it only lasted for 2-3 seconds. Not a long time if you are working on an older vehicle that might need to crank longer. There was other portable chargers that performed great for a similar price.

I bought one of these off his recommendation. I like the idea of it, but out of 5 times I needed to use it for other people it only started the engine 3 out of the 5.
@bigcbradio11 ай бұрын
@@Jay-pv3ql something people need to remember is that these jump packs and boosters are designed for use as a simple jump start when someone has left something on and drained the battery. They are not for trying to start a vehicle that has an issue starting normally. If someone drains their battery trying to start their vehicle, a jump pack isn't going to fix the problem and magically start it for them.
@nc90awd8 ай бұрын
This is not even in the same universe as the best portable jump starter. I bought a JNC 660 jump box and I could literally go a month without charging it, and jumpstart 100 cars including diesel trucks. And most of these car’s batteries are completely dead even after letting them run for a while and turning off the engine the dome light wouldn’t even come on. Even cars with no battery at all. And only $140. If you look at a tow truck driver, car lot, auto auction it’s the jump box you see 99.9% people carrying.
@TUBEYOUTHETUBE6 жыл бұрын
I'd love to have one of these. Especially because you dont have to worry for it to go bad. I've had a lot of booster packs sitting around for too long that became damaged by self discharging.

In the video I think u said if u have a dead battery and don't want to be charged from another car then use his cigarette lighter plug. Do u mean using the other cars cigarette lighter plug to charge unit ? Then use unit to jump start your own dead battery ?
@LambdaWave846 жыл бұрын
It's basically a boost converter that charges a big capacitor bank using the residual energy of the battery. When the battery is weak, the internal resistance of the battery is very high and when you try to crank it up, the current draw of the starter is enormous, so the voltage of the battery drops too much, and the starter won't spin. That thing provides the kick needed for the starter.

It all depends on what the super cap demands not enough voltage it will dissipate at a rate faster than it can charge. Thank you...I don't usually use my car but maybe once a month..my battery is good but by me not driving as often my battery died and I'm constantly needing a jump when I want to use it..I'm retired so that's why I don't drive often.. however I've been watching your videos for the past year and you have giving me great tips to tell my family and friends..but this device on this video I really need it..it seems simple to use and I don't have to depend on a jump from strangers at inopportune times me being a female...I definitely want to get this device cause it looks lightweight and I can keep it in my home until time to use it..this is excellent!..thank you for posting your videos..you are saving us time money and headaches.. eternally grateful 😄

Scotty, could you explain how the procedure changes if you charge it up from a different car? I bought one of these 9 months ago and yesterday I needed it. Hooked it up to the offending battery and nothing happened. Charged the unit up from the cigarette lighter accessory in my other car. Took it back to the car that needed a jump, all charged up. Directions say press start instead of on. Nothing happened. I don't know if this unit is bad or if I don't understand how to use it. I borrowed my old jump starter back from my daughter and the car started right up. Thanks Scotty, hope to hear back.

For us we have solar panels that we could plug this thing into. Plug it in for 3 minutes and awaaaay we go! Amazing stuff!

Or one might try shuffling stocking clad feet on the carpet with one terminal in hand and other grounded, for about an hour. :D

Very helpful info. Thanks. This would make a perfect gift for my wife. She is prone to leaving her dome light on. She is Queen Battery-killer. Sooner or later, she will stand herself. I have been following supercapacitor development and companies will soon be using them to charge EVs. Contrary to popular belief, a supercapacitor CAN hold a charge, PROVIDED it is built with a near-perfect vacuum seal. In fact, with a perfect seal, it can hold a charge forever. Graphene is a meterial that can be used in such capacitors. It is incredibly strong, conductive and light. And with the new manufacturing methods being developed, graphene is going to be very affordable. A device like this? It lists for $185. But with graphene, $29.95 some day? So watch for graphene supercapacitors for EVs within the next 10 years. Samsung already uses them in their newest smartphones.

My old man's a big fan of your videos and I have been watching some of them for a while too ... I am just noticing that this video is the reason why he has one of these jumpers now Lol ! He had a 91 celica and my brother had an 86 . I'm thinking of scooping up a 97 convertible that needs some work for 1,000 bucks from a guy I know seeing how pretty much every car from that time is starting to increase in value. Not to mention it will be fun little car to work on . My pops is a big fan of Toyotas , I'm more partial to hondas but they both make great vehicles . Cheers scotty, time to drop a 2jz in the celica

Bought the SuperCap 1 a couple years ago and it was fantastic. Gave it to one of my sons for his birthday and he said it was a "LIFE SAVER." Only negative thing about the Cap 1 was that it didn't have a case; whereas, the Cap 2 does and a nice one at that.

They should have put a solar panel on the back in case you are totally SOL

Send it to me and I will review it and see if it will start a hybrid

12voltvids a hybrid is way easier to start than any traditional ICE.

Only if the HV battery has a charge. The 12v battery only needs enough power in it start the computer which will close the contactor in the HV battery, which will start the inverter for the 12v system. If the HV battery is down from say sitting unused for a month that is a different ball of wax. There is a secondary inverter to charge the HV pack on non plug in hybrids. This however takes a big load from the 12v battery, and it takes about 10 minutes to do. If the 12v battery is also low, one of these super cap boosters will probably not have enough kick to do the job. Just like lighting up the glow plugs in a diesel. A conventional gel cell, or lithium ion booser will do it, because it can sustain enough current for the 10 minutes or so it needs to precharge the HV pack enough to start the HV system and thus the engine, but I would love to test one of these super cap boosters out to prove this theory. Incidentally, i am NOT a mechanic, and know little about cars, I am however an electronics engineer, and have both a conventional hybrid and a Chevy Volt, the ultimate in hybrid technology.

12voltvids I hope it does drain after a month lol. Not all hybrids have that functionality.

David Nance Great idea, unless it's a very nice car (which students can't afford but parents are foolish enough to provide sometimes) then you might ask for $40. :D

Raymond Warzecha All you have to do is click on the link provided, it's $110 on Amazon, or at least the price I was quoted, Amazon is funny about pricing.

This tech is so cool! I got a Stanley Fatmax 700 for Christmas in 2016 and it has NEVER jumped a car successfully. I will certainly look into getting one of those super capacitors!
