Hello Miranda. I’ve recently discovered your channel, and in fact, Booktube in general. It has awakened a long dormant desire to read again. I have to say, everything about your channel is lovely…the bookshelves, your Mum, your sweet voice, and sensitive discussions of books…all this in a world where the word lovely almost never comes to mind. Thank you.

Never heard of mubble fubbles before - but here in Australia, we use the equally amusing term - 'collywobbles' meaning a state of funk, feeling depressed or off, and/or having an upset tummy! I also love the term - 'screaming habdabs' which means the same thing - just feeling a bit blah! Perhaps people have always invented these funny ways to describe feeling down in the dumpingtons - just to cheer themselves up!

The light is really fading as the nights draw in a bit isn't it. I love a good murder mystery. The Father Brown tales are so good. I'm an absolute sucker for all things Miss Marple and the old charming Victorian set Sherlock Holmes. Even when I was kid I was at the library hiring out audio versions of the The Secret Seven and the Famous Five. I also grew up watching Poirot and Tales of the Unexpected in my teens with my mum. 😍

So much inspiration, thank you! I often read not only Busman's Honeymoon but also Clouds of witness by Dorothy Sayers in the autumn. Two other favourites are Sent i November (Moomin valley in November) and Muminpappan och havet (Moomin pappa at sea) by Tove Jansson. And autumn is also the time of year when I return to Jane Austen's Persuasion ( well I always read and listen to books so could make an ever so long list, nevertheless I do recommend the Moomin ones for those who have not yet read them)

Hi Miranda! Thank you for all of these autumn reading suggestions! I want to share one of my own favorites with you. It's a book that no one else seems to know about, but it's my favorite to read in the autumn, and I've been doing so since I found the book as a teenager. (I'm 53 now, so that's a long time! :-)) It's called A Stolen Past, by John Knowles. He's well-known for A Separate Peace, but I really never connected with that book. However, A Stolen Past captured my heart immediately! It's in an academic setting (Yale , involving Russian history, a dilapidated country estate, very atmospheric and perfect for fall. And it's about writers and writing, so it appeals to the book lover in me! I highly recommend digging up a copy (it's out of print) and enjoying this fall!
