Contrast this version of Autumn Leaves with a rendition of the same piece by Art Tatum or Oscar Peterson. Tatum's and Peterson's solid stride left hand removes that angular, stabbing dissonance of Bill Evan's version. All of these artists have their place in the pantheon of modern jazz, but as far a solo performance is concerned, nothing beats the stride left hand.
