I'ved been listening to Tommy for many years. Saw him live in Detroit many times. Nobdy is butter at blending simplicity and beauty.

My jazz piano instructor would incessantly talk about the phenomenal Tommy Flanagan. Shamed to say this is the first time I've listened to this him. I'm overwhelmed by his piano mastery coupled with his ability to transform a standard into a musical poem. Simply beautiful, particularly when Tommy's playing is augmented by the superb Reggie Workman and Joe Chambers.
probably one of the most interesting jazz upright bass solos I have ever heard.

strange and difficult to follow bass solo

I don't think he's playing that much out of the harmony, I'm able to hear the theme on top of his solo, but it's definitely strange. I don't get it. Perhaps it takes several listens to appreciate.
