Out and about Walking in Upper Slaughter
Upper Slaughter is a beautiful Cotswold Village in Gloucestershire. It is located 4 miles South West of Stow-on-the-Wold and has a population of just under 200. The River Eye runs through the centre of the village. The village is home to the Lords of the Manor Hotel which dates back to 1649. Upper Slaughter has its own parish church the Church of St Peter.
This walk was an impromptu one as it was a last minute decision so is not a fully comprehensive walk taking in all the main features of the village but definitely still worth watching all the same.

There is so much beauty in Gloucestershire I am yet to see in person. One day I will visit these places for a nice stroll and enjoy them fully. Thanks for another wonderful video.

Yes Chris, there is indeed and with the arrival of Spring in the next few months Gloucestershire will be even more scenic. Nothing beats seeing the places for yourself but these videos should help in the meantime. Thanks for watching. OAAW

Hi Michael. That’s true & also quite relaxing I think. Just out of interest do you listen to the audio through headphones as the sound recording is binaural which makes a big difference. Thanks for watching. OAAW

@@OutandaboutWalking Yes, I listen through headphones. I could hear the sound of the car passing by from my left earphone to both earphones. The audio is on point. Have a great day!

@@michaeltichael ah, that’s good then, it’s a new mic setup that I have just started using in the past two videos & I am just working towards finding a good balance on the volume input. You have a good day too my friend. Hope to speak soon

I think it has been a few weeks since I have had time to watch a walk, and I am glad that I could start today with this one- a short walk, but a fine one! (I see you were not the only walker that morning). I enjoyed the peaceful morning stroll through the village that you made in autumn, my favorite season. I’m glad you are sure-footed, as some of those sidewalks between the buildings and the river were not very wide! I was a bit surprised at how much birdsong you still had in the autumn- something that is not true here in the northeast US, as we probably get more extreme cold temperatures than you do in the winter months to come, and therefore have more of our songbirds flee to warmer climates for the winter. (Correct me if I am wrong about that). How are things going with your work on the future videos for your channel? I hope that things are coming along nicely as you do your filming. :)

Hello Janet. It is lovely to hear from you. Oh my…a few weeks have gone by?! It seems like only yesterday since we last spoke, time goes by far too quickly these days! I don’t think this walk was quite on par with the most recent walk in Lower Slaughter but then every walk will always be different and have it’s own individual merits even when visiting the same location again. That could well be the case regarding our feathered friends migrating in search of warmer climes. I have been out and about gathering plenty of footage, although I was rather miffed because of a mishap that happened about a week ago…whilst walking for hours during the night in the pouring rain. I had just finished the walk, pressed stop recording on the camera then power off and as I did that a message saying ‘deleting’ came up on the screen and bam all the footage was gone! I tried recovery software to un-delete it but that was unsuccessful! The only subtle saving grace was that for the past few walks I have been recording with two cameras - a front facing and a rear facing camera, so I still have the rear footage but it is generally intended only to cut to the rear view now and again, so the viewer can gain a sense of the view behind as I am walking away. I will still upload it a full length video though, I even thought about reversing the footage so that traffic is driving backwards and raindrops are going up but not too sure until I try it out in post. Oh, by the way…to answer a previous question that I think you had?! My front facing camera is not waterproof however I have jimmy-rigged a small umbrella to it, the rear facing camera is waterproof, hence why I now walk in the rain without an umbrella and have done so since starting this new format of filming. Yep…I have been soaked through to the skin many times now but the beauty of it is that it allows me capture a more natural sound through the binaural mics rather than the usual ‘chicken frying in the frying pan’ sound which was always louder because of the mics in my ears being in close proximity to the umbrella. Also we no longer have as much of that horrid up and down vertical bounce in the footage that all walking channels suffer from, it is now reduced by at least 80% I would say. The only thing that is holding me back is getting some music finished! I think I am going through a bit of a musical crisis at the moment (from a confidence standpoint). I know in my minds eye the sound that I am after, you could say it is somewhat dark and almost a sinister or a foreboding kind of sound, which will suit the nighttime walks perfectly in the rain! Hope you are both good and thanks for your comment and continued support. OAAW

@@OutandaboutWalking Oh, that’s a shame about the erased footage, and after all that walking! Sadly, the push-button ease on devices that helps us in many ways also can mean that one click or tap sends important material into oblivion. Sometimes even the device or internet itself erases things we want. I discovered that a texting thread with a dear friend who had passed away got erased- probably because the internet “saw” that it was no longer an active thread. Of course it wasn’t- because my friend was gone- but I still treasured reading over past texts with her, to view our past conversations. It was very disappointing, and sad. We have just been back from our own “out and about”- to again visit our daughter’s family in North Carolina (and they thankfully were not in the part that suffered terribly from the recent hurricane). While there, we drove 2-1/2 hours to the east and spent an overnight by the ocean! This was so wonderful! In a country as large as ours, seeing the ocean is not something that necessarily happens often unless you live within an easy drive of the coast, and it literally had been decades since I had last seen the Atlantic. Words are inadequate to describe the beauty and wonder of approaching that shore and seeing/hearing the surf repeatedly roll in; I easily could have sat on the sand for hours, just watching it! We went to the shore after dark with our flashlights (“torches” to you!) and saw it by moonlight- and also got up early on Sat. to see the sunrise over the horizon. Both were stunning sights, and I treasure the videos that I took of us doing that. I hope that your musical efforts come along well, and I look forward to hearing what you come up with when the new videos are eventually up and running. You do a lot of work to make videos (was interested to hear about your filming techniques and equipment), and it is appreciated by your viewers. :)
