Classic COTSWOLDS on a Cold & Frosty Morning in the Village of Salperton

Out and about Walking

4 ай бұрын

So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village and former parish of Salperton which is located approximately 8 miles (13 km) east of Cheltenham in the county of Gloucestershire in England. in 1931 the village had a population of 92 people. The village now comes under the parish of Hazelton. Because of the exposed position of the village it earned the nickname "Cold Salperton", it was definitely cold that morning at -7 Celsius!
We finish the walk at the war memorial, which contains the names of those from the village who lost their lives during WW1 and WW2.
This is not conclusive coverage of the village, there is still one more part to take care of...which is to be continued within the next couple of months...
Unfortunately, at the time of this recording, I really was quite ill! Which was about two weeks into an illness that lasted for approx four weeks. During this time I still carried on with recording walks (and drives @AmbientHighway - Shameless plug!)
Thanks for walking with me.

Beautiful! Wish I had visited England when I was young & able! I’ve always been obsessed with England. I recently found out one of my great-great-great-etc. grandmothers was from Kent in the 1700’s. Her name was Lady Sarah Percel! England is in my genes! ❤️

Another beautiful walk- and this one a bit different, as it was on a frosty morning. (I had to quickly look up how -7 Celsius converted to Fahrenheit, as we use the latter system here). The familiar stone cottages and buildings had a different look in this season- but without diminishing any of their charms. I was surprised at how many bird sounds I heard, as our area is almost silent of their songs in winter- save for the occasional honking of Canadian geese as they fly over. Sparrows live around here in winter but we usually don’t hear them. (They are probably too busy keeping warm and fed to sing to us!). Anyway, the bird calls on your video were delightful to hear- and the frosted-over spider web on the gate was also truly unique! Ending at the WW I/II war memorial was a lovely touch; I know my veteran dad was always conscious of how blessed he was to have returned from WWII, and he always was mindful of the sacrifices of those who hadn’t. Thanks for the nice walk! (P. S. Please don’t ever feel compelled to go out and make videos if you are ill! Your viewers appreciate your dedication, but would not want you to worsen your ailments by traipsing around when you should be home in bed with a cup of tea!). : )

Hi, Janet. Hope you are having a nice Sunday. Thank you very much for your time & comment (don’t worry about the lines thing, probably just gremlins in the YT system!). I do enjoy hearing birds sing first thing in the morning. I did a walk this morning in which had some very audible birds singing plus some very-very noisy crows. You have probably noticed that whenever there is a war memorial I nearly always include it as I never take for granted or under estimate the sacrifices made by so many in so many different ways, including your dear dad. Have a good week ahead. All the best to you. OAAW

@@OutandaboutWalking These phones do strange and wondrous things- often without our consent. : /. For this reason I try to edit everything I write to anyone, but sometimes weird things occur after our text, comment, or whatever leaves us (as just happened with the lines and the “gremlins”!). Yes, I have noticed in your videos your respect for veterans of both your own country and of other countries- and it is very much appreciated!!! If my dad were here, he would not only enjoy your videos, but he would probably want me to also send comments on his behalf, telling you some of his tales- as he so enjoyed his time in England (obviously not the war, but the country itself). I must tell you that when I looked up the location of the Cotswolds on a map, I was excited to see that Bath is nearby. (Is Bath considered part of the Cotswold region?) This is significant because though my dad was stationed in the Colchester/Coggeshall area- in the southeastern region- he very wisely used any spare time he had- such as weekend passes- to sightsee. He had been to London, of course, but he also mentioned going to Bath- so he had traveled to your area, as well. Therefore, it’s quite possible that he did actually see the region that I am getting to enjoy now with your walks! It will be an added pleasure for me to imagine my dad as a young American GI, perhaps walking in some of these lovely villages, and through the countryside. (He loved to walk, too). I just thought I would share that, as the thought pleased me! : )
@OutandaboutWalking
@OutandaboutWalking 4 ай бұрын
@@janetryan9779 yes, Bath is just inside the Southern end of the Cotswolds. I can imagine sitting and chatting to your dad about his experiences here of when he would of walked and explored throughout the various villages, towns and cities, really quite remarkable when we think about it that come many decades later these walks would mean so much to you on a personal level. I hope Mr Ryan is doing OK. All the best to you both.

@@OutandaboutWalking Yes, my dad would have chatted at length to you about his experiences- riding the Queen Mary over, and about all that he saw while there. He loved that in England there was no language barrier, so he felt confident striking out on his own. I recall him marveling that all the houses “over there” are stone- as opposed to the wood frame houses that are common here. (He surmised that it was not only due to their age, but also perhaps because the greater dampness of the English climate made stone structures more durable….don’t know if this is so). My husband is doing okay; he has some health issues that require constant vigilance, but so far no calamities this year! That was very kind of you to remember that we had a New Years’ day ER visit, and inquire after his health; thank you! : )

Hi, Cheryl. Thank you for your lovely comment, always a pleasure to hear from you. That is a great idea! A compilation of scenes of benches under trees, which leads me onto other ideas....a comp of rivers...a comp of looking up through the trees, so many different possibilities. Yes, sometime ago, I did think about selling prints but not so much produced from video stills but more along the lines of going out on location with a tripod and my decent DSLR and really framing some shots up to get a nice composition going and high res images. I may well start it in the Spring when the Cotswolds starts to bloom. Also, something I am seriously thinking about ATM is starting a clothing line, using the 'Out and about' as a brand / and logo design for the clothing, mainly outdoor garments (but not entirely limited to outdoors). So in essence using the OAAW logo but without the walking figure. How does this sound to you? I didn't know you meditate, that is so cool! Have you tried the new driving channel for medititional purposes as it uses the 432 Hz soundscapes which is known to aid meditation. Thanks again, Cheryl 🙂

@@OutandaboutWalking Hey OAAW~ Oh, brilliant… compilations galore! What a fab idea!👏🏻 I wonder what other viewers look for while they watch your videos? It has that feel of “being under the same moon: benches, rivers, trees, etc. - all as markers, as it were. Cool! A new channel. Still photos. A clothing line. How exciting! I love it when creative people start imagining. There is such a massive crisis of imagination now. Your appreciation and respect for the outdoor esthetic leads me to think the clothing line is something worth nurturing. I’ve meditated forever it seems. Typically with my eyes closed and focused on my breathing; and when not silently, I’m listening to nature sounds. Pretty simple stuff that I think of as “no frills.” I find soundscapes for meditation unpleasantly distracting for some reason. Weird, huh? Go figure…. I hope you are feeling better now….

When I'm recording my garden walkbout videos (for personal use), I feel a bit dizzy watching them as I can't seem to keep my phone camera from shaking too much. What inexpensive equipment could you recommend for someone who wants to make the same quality video for personal use and memory but with a youtube quality? )) Thanks in advance for your reply. p.s. I hope you're feeling better already. Love, Hugh

Hi, Hugh. Thanks very much for your comment. No selfie stick or shock absorber was used as the camera has a gimbal built into it. My recommendation would be for the camera that I am currently using which is the DJI Pocket 3, whilst it is not cheap it is not expensive either, but all depends on your budget really, if this camera is not within your price range (it retails at 489 UK pounds) you could try one of the earlier models of this camera which are now much cheaper, ie: DJI Pocket 1 or the DJI Pocket 2. Best of luck & happy filming. OAAW

Why does everything have a blueish greenish tint to it, I feel like I'm watching a scene from Twilight (2008) teenage vampire movie....
@OutandaboutWalking
@OutandaboutWalking 4 ай бұрын
Ah, there are two reasons for that...1) The time of day...as majority of my walks are filmed either before the sun fully rises or I film at night / dusk, at these times of day the light has a very different quality compared to say midday. 2) Colour grading that I use, to give my videos a unique kind of look. I very much appreciate your comment and will take your feedback on board, with this in mind I shall look at reducing the amount of colour grading on future videos as the effect should be only subtle and not over the top. Thanks. All the best to you.

You will live an extra long life... you have the secret, a command over yourself, the motto "ifn ye fall down and breaks yer leg, get up and be awalkin' on it anyways" aka "mind over matter". I feel your suffering yet the smoothness of your steps and camera testify your pluck. This Salp be the most magnificent landscape for capturing frost. I studied it as we walked, even took acouple screenshots (tis okay?) to dare meself to brush the like on canvas, shall be complex (for a pathological perfectionist) as never yet attempted to recreate ice crystals much less fields of them. Ha! That's me! Wearing nothing but an open sweater mutting about outdoors in freezies, seeing ifn I can blow frost rings (never can, always mimic those Cotswold steam pipes). Another thing me likens be the moon, high, in the daytime, good omen. YES, spider web close-up, how'dya know I'd been spying them amongst the stone fencing, revealed only by the bitter dew, only thing is their builders' not around (nor hims lunches). Okay.. here be me 🤍s: 3:14, 12:47, 21:43-21:55, 28:46-28:52.

Good day, L.J. How is your Sunday shaping up? You know me by now, always keep going regardless :). Salperton is a stunning village, but the frosting really added an extra dimension. Absolutely, you can screenshot, I would love to see what you can do with it on canvas! No end to your talents! Some new scenes for 2024 recap video perhaps?. Thanks for your company :). OAAW

@@OutandaboutWalking Yes, thought I'd be "ahead of the game" but with also personables. Tho these 2 DO reflect Cotswolders for they hailed you first (tho doggos totally ignored 🤣) Maybe there'd be a smidgin of encouragement to a few other viewers doing the same, something fun and diversified. But that's me curiosity, like, what would an islander rivet to, someone incapacitated find that made them laugh and smile for days, which city children started looking around and jumped up and down at spying a rain drop sparkle on a fire hydrant.... No one can cure the world, but changing a few perspectives could be liken the flu, contagious. That's sorta your purpose, no?

@@jaclynmwvasquez PS. I had a busy night last night, did a night walk then did a preliminary night drive through the Cotswolds, although I have not viewed it on the computer yet only the back of the camera, going just on that it looks OKAY. The new vehicle camera mount worked like a charm! Oh, then an early morning walk followed by a sunny morning drive through the Cotswolds - four videos done in the space of 12 hours :)
