Mine has just over 800,000 miles on it but my oil analysis still look great with very low wear metals. I was actually amazed at how low the iron, chrome, and aluminum was. I need to try to have a good year before I tear into it and replace the gear.
@angelmartin45193 жыл бұрын
Hey Gordon how are you? Wanted to ask a question. I have a 06/07 century 14L. I’m not sure if this was like this before or after my kingpins got changed. But I have this running away issue with my truck steering. Like if it hits a bad spot in the road it sways like a boat in the ocean left to right or just to one side and I have to correct it. It’s a scary feeling. The truck got an alignment already from freightliner. Maybe needs a balance idk if that would do it. But a independent mechanic told me that the gearbox when you twist the wheel back and forth there’s a slight delay in the wheels reacting to the turn . Would the gear box be the issue or the kingpins? I’m just tired of replacing parts with no answers thanks
@CharlieWhitewolf10 ай бұрын
Back at around 600k miles I had that problem in mine had to replace the Kingpin. Those Century's are money hogs. I went from an old Ltd to the century worse mistake I ever made but I stuck with it and now have 2.4 million miles on it. The LTD dropped out at 1.9 million miles.

Mr.Gordan quick question does it have to be timed? Or can i just pull it off and put the new one in? Mine is leaking alittle bit of oil but i dont want to get worst
@57bagre Жыл бұрын
No. The only gears that need to be in time are inside the timing gear case, everything outside only need to push it in. Thanks for watching.

The a/c has a pulsating drag on the belt but the alternator has a smooth steady drag. Thanks for asking.
@willmann303 жыл бұрын
Nice Gordon sir. I'm having a serious whine when the engine warms up. Sounds like it's coming from the accessory drive pulley. It only started making that noise AFTER I replaced the water pump. Could I have possibly could of messed up alignment in the gear housing or something?
@57bagre3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, maybe alternator. Try listening through a piece of hose to pinpoint the noise.

I think the last time I had to change mine was half that price. Mine only made it about 500k though. The rest got 1.4 million and then decided to eat a piston dropping down a 7% grade. Gotta love trucking.

I got blow by on my Detroit they are trying to get 30k for a rebuild 🤦🏾♂️ but it still runs hard what can I do because 30k is not happening
@57bagre2 жыл бұрын
30k is too much, I think the going rate is more like 15 to 20. I rebuilt mine at home for about $4200.00 parts and machine shop and of course I did the labor. I had 1.5 million miles on it at the time and I still have some blow by but I don't care, it runs good and makes money. I wouldn't worry about blow by if it's not like way too much. I did my rebuild on video you can find it in my playlists.

How many miles do bull gears last
@57bagre2 жыл бұрын
I've been told we need to start watching the bull gear for wear at around 1 million miles. Thanks for watching.

Do those bolts have to be torqued or can you just tighten them snug?
@57bagre3 жыл бұрын
Just tighten them a bit, if you want to torque them they're about the same size as a 3/8 bolt which would torque at around 35 to 40 ft lbs

I've Got 2.4 million miles Detroit and I need to replace my Bull gears.They are the original and looking for a video to see how to do that. Anybody know of a Good video for it?
@57bagre10 ай бұрын
I doubt if anyone has or will ever have a video on doing a complete bull gear job. If you think you are equipt to handle that then the first thing you need is an engine shop manual or copy the pages from one covering that job. You need to take off the oil pan, jack up the front of the motor a little to clear the front mount, take off the accessories from the timing cover, then the main pulley, then the timing cover (you'll need an overhead lift for that) now you can have access to the timing gears. I was happy to pay a professional shop to do that for me although I am equipt to do it I sure don't want to.
