Took my first ride in a driverless cab last week. Had I known it would make a 9 minute drive into a 33 minute drive without using the freeway and for some reason driving through downtown Phoenix at 2:30 AM I would have made a different choice.

Super cool! All im wondering, in a race full of autonomous cars, what is the competition i dont see the competitive factor. Is it a competition of what team can write the best code?

The Lemans would have to be lengthened to 72 hours to account for charging time. Next it will be driver-less race cars. The whole point of racing is the challenge of winning between humans. I think this technology will take many more years before it becomes normally accepted.

Lives at stake is what makes it so exciting to watch racing. About the only people I can see watching a race like this is people that are betting and for that reason alone.

Kind of cool, and I'll bet there's some serious technology involved, but it looks like it's going to need a raft of improvements before it's going to challenge a real race car driver. I'll bet I could lap Indy a lot faster in my Avalon Hybrid.
