And when that wicked woman kept pressuring Korey to read and Korey kept saying "I can't read". That part angered me. I wanted to run up to the stand and hold him tight and tell him everythings going to be ok. I also wanted to tell that woman to leave him the hell alone he's just a child. I wanted to save and protect all of them. I'm tearing up just typing this comment. The injustice of this case hurts like hell. And to know they were being dehumanized because of their skin colour, hurts even more.

Thank you for reviewing. I personally am not strong enough to watch these type of series. My heart almost broke in half with khalif Browder story. I knew personally.2 black teenage boys 14 and 16 got falsley accused in 1986 and.sent to Riker Island. They never came back the same. They were a walking shell. One got on crack. When I found out I was pregnant with twins black boys I moved and bought a house in SC that has an excellent school system. In fact it is rated #1. I put my boys in karate since the age of 5. One of them has a black belt. They are now 17 and one has a full scholarship to college. Since the age of 8 I talked to them about police and the law system. At the age of 12 I had them research and study SC law and made them learn their rights as an American and then I made them research cases to teach them their real rights as a black boy in America. When I saw my 2 friends came home from Rikers right there and then I made a plan for my future sons.

@@robertmiller5516 I’m not going to go into details bc I am very long-winded and this post will turn into a book. They both are dead. One was murdered and the other one OD. For the record they were innocent. They were very sweet boys. So when this Netflix series came out with the Central Park 5 it brought back the memories. There are so many stories like my 2 friends and Khalief B in NYC I just wanted to honor them and put it out in the universe on how they impacted my life and made me a better single black mom to my sons and their experience educated me on how to prepare my sons. It just so heart-breaking to understand that we are still dealing with this police and law reinforcement racism against black men.

This was so hard to watch I was living in Harlem at the age of 24 at the time this actually happened. And I saw the division between people. I knew these children were innocent but to see this actually play out in a documentary really rocked me too my soul it brought tears to my eyes. The actors were great it was so real. As a mother of a black male child it left me angry at the whole judicial system and law enforcement. I hope and pray these young men find some peace ☮️ I wish I can hug each and every one of them. Avar did a wonderful job with the casting and a wonderful job bringing to light how currupt and racist that law enforcement really is and not just back in the 80s but still to this day.

Ava DuVernay deserves the accolades and the awards she's sure to receive for this masterpiece of truth. I was floored. Spent my Friday, the day of release, in tears. I'm still not over it nor do I intend to be. This film will stay with me forever. There are numerous scenes that are heartbreaking and maddening. One, however, epitomizes the true essence of the childhood stolen from these kids: Korey Wise (astutely portrayed by Jharrel Jerome who should undoubtedly receive awards for this) has been transferred to Attica. A sympathetic guard brings him reading materials. When asked about his reading, Korey talks about chia seeds being healthy and wishes for his very own chia pet. He receives a box from Roberts, the guard. Inside the box is a Chia Mr. T. The look on the kid's face and his reaction, like that of a small child on Christmas morning, will melt your heart. I hope that this epic tale of injustice will be utilized to its fullest potential in schools, and churches, and civic meetings, and everywhere else possible to reach the people it needs to reach; to enlighten the populace of the world to what happened in NYC in 1989 and, unfortunately continues to happen today. Any aspiring filmmaker should look to Ms. DuVernay as THE example of the level to pursue.
