Based on a true story that gripped the country, "When They See Us" chronicles the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, and spanning 25 years, highlights their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014. Actors Jharrel Jerome, Ethan Herisse, Caleel Harris, Marquis Rodriguez and Asante Blackk came to BUILD to have a discussion about the Netflix series and the story it's based on.
BUILD is a live interview series like no other-a chance for fans to sit inches away from some of today’s biggest names in entertainment, tech, fashion and business as they share the stories behind their projects and passions. Every conversation yields insights, inspiration and plenty of surprises as moderators and audience members ask questions. It all happens several times a day live and live-streamed on BUILDseries.com.

Apology is not enough. I see huge flaw in the justice system. A root cause analysis should be done to make sure this never happen again. The cops, the prosecutors and the system should pay for what they did. Compensation should come from the who made this error happen instead of normal citizens.

They are closet racists. Like in the days of lynching, they don't see Black people as human. So, it doesn't matter to them what happens to Black people. If CP5 were White, the same person would have spent 85K on ads demanding their release. And if the jogger had been Black, they would have vilified her - she met up with her drug dealer in the park and got killed in a fight; she asked for it, going there at night; she must have been a prostitute etc. See how they pamper White school shooters? Even when apprehended with a gun, they don't treat them the way they did the CP5. Structural racism and inequality.

So this has forced me to do more research on the case of the Central Park Five, particularly Korey Wise because it's so much that is missing from his story. I was so touched my part 4. I cried too mostly from Mr. Wise story. This was so horrific for these guys at the at of 14 thru 16 years of age. However, Korey wise suffered so much pain in the prison at 16 and all his innocence was trapped in those walls in the holes of prison. Today it seems he suffers from PTSD and other illnesses that may not have a name yet because everyone in prison took advantage of him for being naive and 16. As Jharrell says here, that it's hard for the real Korey Wise because he is still trapped in his 16 year old mindset. That's make the pain even greater. I have one question, what happened to the officers at the first and second prison that let those guys beat that kid until he was bleeding and passed out? Did they go to prison, do they owe him financially for what he suffered under their direction? Did they apologize? Why we haven't exposed them more?
@katlap3101
@katlap3101 5 жыл бұрын
jadavision, Ava mentioned that everyone all the people who were portrayed in the movie were told or informed they would be casted etc. I don’t know if those officers were contacted but she did research on most of the cops who were instrumental in the case and nothing happened to them. Basically they weren’t held accountable for anything they did so it just shows you nobody was held accountable which makes me very angry. Those cops and prosecution advanced their careers by throwing away 5 innocent lives into hell on earth. And the real perpetrator assaulted 2 more women afterwards. Look at how many lives and families were impacted by the cops and prosecutors.

jadavision, no and I hope they go after the prosecutor. She needs to be held accountable for what she had done. She is receiving backlash now but that not enough. I can’t even begin to tell you but I am sure you feel it too how wrong this whole system is for allowing this to happen.

And not only that will first let me say I will never take anything away from a victim cuz what that woman went through is horrible but what irritated mean is after the fact years later after the evidence showed that these boys didn't do it the woman is still sticking by her claims of well it was multiple people that did this to me they're there is no way that they are innocent because the police told her this and it's so sad that that happened to him and she's sticking by what she felt and what they told her even after all of the evidence that something different that's the issue that I have with her
