I played this game fairly often in my youth and enjoyed this video very much. I'm looking forward to the ones to come. My experience with the hobby is very similar to yours. Played AH games in my youth, stopped as "life moved along" and I am only now, after 40 years, rediscovering the hobby, mostly through KZbinrs such as yourself. Thanks.

@@NerdWorkshop1 Good news is with classic games like this that are already around we can replay them over and over again without spending more money (until Gameaholics comes out with the reprint of VITP of course, which I'm totally ponying up for the moment I can).

Always loved this game as a young teenager in the late 70s. Unlike my other wargames, it was simple enough to actually *play* and I was fascinated by all the cool ships and their combat values.

Along with Squad Leader my favorite Avalon Hill game in the 1980's! I cannot wait to get it again, now I have the time being retired! Simple yet effective strategically but great fun. Loved my ships and the games power arc!

This game saw so much play with me and my friends in the late 70s and early 80s. Once I got VITP, War at Sea rarely got played again. VITP has been giving me stink eye since June when I used its damage and disabled counters for extras in Nine Navies War, a WWI hypothetical using the War at Sea system. VITP feels scorned and betrayed, so I must get it set up soon.

This one of my favorite games of all time. Did you know a macro game called Victory at Sea, linking VIPT and War at Sea, could be played with rules and 2 new sea areas found in an issue of Avalon Hill's "The General". It was just fantastic and my favorite was to play both games

The Japanese played this game once many years ago, but they got beaten and have never tried it again since! 😂 What a fantastic video! I have quite a few "more advanced" games on the War in the Pacific, such as the Yaquinto game C.V. (Midway) and Flat Top (Solomon Seas). Excellent games with some brilliant mechanics, but... they really only deal with one particular campaign each, which is fine, but somehow, they just lack that little bit of magic - the X Factor maybe - this game has. Also, and as far as I know, Victory... is the only game that deals with the entire Battle of the Pacific in a game that can be played in one evening (correct me if I'm wrong), and it has a simplicity about it that makes it easy to learn but hard to master! All in all, I really love this game and am so pleased to have a copy, even if it isn't in as good a condition as yours. I'm looking so forward to clicking on the next video in your series, to see how things go at Pearl Harbour, something I'm not particularly lucky at.

Very good presentation. However, at around 25-to-30-minute area you mentioned ships that had bonus attack but pointed to some aircraft carriers the way you described the bonus did not make the distinction between Gun and Air bonuses. The ships with bonuses are the Japanese Cruisers (I do not recall there being DDs in the game) that had the Long Lance Torpedo and Allied ships that had Gunnery Radar. The CVs because of top rate aircrews. IIRC there are some late game IJN CVs that do not get the bonus. Aside from this though as I said a very good presentation.

Your right Ghost Rider I do call Battleships Destroyers. I should have said that the round white circle on the attack number have a bonus attacks. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for this - love the 3d printer stuff. As you know AH wrote concise but scattered rule book. But man are they exact when you sparse the verbiage and re-write it linearly - step by step.. Being so you seem to make some errors not following literally what they wrote. However because ideally AH developed the game movement and combat sequence to be Combat Action sweeping, where the players exhaust all battles that were staged, and fight all units that are possible to fight Each single Turn, then move onto next turn. You are doing this but not exactly the way the rules explain. For instance and not to argue - you don't need to stage "every" single ship in port as Raiding after you set patrols out - you can if you choose but it doesnt necessarrily mean you have to. Also ALL ships must make speed rolls that move upto 2 spaces... you might be fast forwarding the video though - i thought you said only cruisers speed roll - ive found that it never really hurts to re- read the rules or look at other interpretation of the text because the Original designer often had a full encompassing comprehensive idea - call it a single "system" - or an ideal complete perfectly functioning group of mechanism (ie, mechanics) in mind when they designed the game - that gets muddled in.poorly written rules - that players regularly make error with....such is the case why there are so many interpretations and request for rule clarrifications on Board game geek and on their websites and errata. It come to the point now that games that are somewhat mediocre or complex Must include FAQ in their rules because the initial spelling out of the rule as they are worded in the actual rulebook text doesnt have enough sentences to convey what the hell they mean!!! Not to take away your fun or be a fiddle fkr your videos are excellent - the best to date explaining the game out there. I love this game. Great Video!!!! Your explanation of game 98% i agree with and thoroughly enjoy - lol. Thats pretty damn good. Thank you - do this for Last One Hundred Yards - no time or ambition sometimes.... believe me i know. Lol thanks.!
@NerdWorkshop12 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sun Lin, good advice. Yes we are playing with some additional rule added to make the game balanced. You do have to do a speed roll for any ships that move more than one area as a patroller (unless its speed roll is 7 or 8) and you do have to do a speed roll for any US and IJN ship that moves more than two areas as a raider(again unless it has a speed roll of 7 or 8). It was a fun game for me and I am still playing more game in the VITP Ladder.

Hi Roger, I did not want to overwhelm a new player with all of the rules. Disable counters will be in the next video as I start turn one and in many other turns/videos after that. I figured some of the rules are better explained at the time they occur during play.
